I fucked my body up with tattoos. I only regret one, its ugly, and large. Got it after I got drunk (multiple times).
Hasn't affected my ability to get a job.
Also no names, roses, wings, and cartoon characters. Also, none on the face.

The only time I'd get a tattoo will be if I join the Armed forces, I'd get my Regiment Coat of arms, cos well, thats they do....

Or if I found something else specific to to get a tattoo of. Not just one for the sake of it.
I was gonna do that. I've got my selection for the Paras soon. And as you'd get, I'm slightly put on the idea because every para and his dog has the parachute regiment cap badge tattood on them :p

My only advice is to not get any of the following: tramp stamps
Can guys get tramps stamps?

also with the one I want to get (see above) it's a panther fighting a snake. Panthers and indeed most big cats are a symbol of warriorism, and the snake is a symbol of evil, so the panther fighting the snake, thus represents triumph, and overcoming weakness.

EDIT:

As far as regrets go, if you get older and a picture on your body is the biggest regret you have, you are probably doing alright in life.
That's actually a very sound bit of advice. Thank you :)

Im getting a tattoo of Jubei Kibagami from Ninja Scroll on my upper right back in September, and want to get the Lambda (Half-Life logo for the un-educated in chemistry) on either the back of my neck or wrist

I got "Survive" tattooed on my upper arm after I finished my chemotherapy. It was a reminder to myself that I had beaten cancer and can hence live through just about anything if I believe in myself. If you decide to get one I'd recommend one that has a special meaning to you personally rather than one that just looks good. You have to still be proud of the tattoo 30 years from now so make sure it really means something. A few of my friends advised against me getting my tattoo, saying "You know God won't be too happy with what you did to your body" to which I responded "That's fine. I'm not too happy with what he did to it either."

Eh, I guess they could, but it would look bad. That's why I say avoid them :)
What exactly is a tramp stamp btw? :/ is it like a heart or something that just looks a bit generically slutty?

There are two things I'd consider in terms of getting a tattoo - and I hate needles, so they'd need quite a lot of persuading.

Oh, and there's a third that would be fun, but there's no way I'd get: the Swedish flag and my regimental patches on the regulation place on my arms. Fun idea, but no way.

Anyway, item one: "In Case Of" tattoo. Name, person number / NI number, nationality, blood type. Just in case I ever find myself unidentifiable... Probably won't ever get this one, but it's one of two I'd consider.

Second option, and one that seems likely I might get: My girlfriend is a classicist, and she also has several tattoos; I don't have any. The ancient Egyptians, though, had an icon called a shenu, and over time we've come to appropriate a sort of glyph based on it. So once a certain question has been asked and answered, we'll both be getting that glyph done. Small - probably about 10mm - and concealable, and with no meaning to anyone who doesn't know the background. That's the way to do it.

My ankles, wrists, chest, left hand and most of my back have tattoos on them. Every tattoo I have was taken into deep consideration for at least a year because it you are still thinking about it over a year, you definitely want it. Every tattoo on my body has religious and sentimental reasoning behind it. I have no regrets about any of my tattoos.

A moebius band around a pile of legos. I chose a design that has profound meaning for me, and I have no regrets. It's on my right arm, classic position. I'm still planning out the left arm, but I'm thinking something like a 1up shroom, with a twist.

Yeah, that is the mark of the tramp. Usually something tribal, flowery, hearty, something like that. Are those as popular now as they used to be? That was the go to for girls who wanted to get a tattoo a few years back. Kind of how every guy in the late 90's early 00's was getting barbed wire around his bicep.

It's a tattoo on the lower back, just above the ass. Usually women get them, and I assume they're meant to attract men's attention.

Respect for wanting to join the Paras, I've been looking into it myself, but it wont be 'till after I've finished Uni.

And as far as the tattoo goes, it's probably one of the most awesome badges around to get a tattoo of :D Good luck with selection, enjoy the tabbing and jumping off/ out off stuff :)

Aye, most people think I'm insane for it though, as the Paras are such a hard unit to get into. Still, it'd be nice, and it is a fairly awesome cap badge :p

Although, I think it's the 9th/12th Lancers that have a skull and cross bones variation as their caps bads. They're armoured corps, and that's fairly badass :p

Yeah, I've had a look at the requirements or whatever, and they seem pretty steep :D I've got 3 years of uni to build myself up though, should I decide to go through with it.

And is this [http://firyalimpex.com/images/queens-royal-lancers.jpg] the one you mean? Cos its the Queens Royal lancers according to the internets :p

Either way, it certainly is one badass cap badge :D

I plan on getting the Black Mesa symbol on my left shoulder in a few weeks, as well as the Combine and Elite Combine symbols on my calf, on account of the fact that I've spent so much time on the HL games. The Fallout Brotherhood of Steel symbol, for the same reason as the Black Mesa tattoo. The word "Sinister" across the top of my back, Sinister has been my father's gaming handle since he started playing some 20 years ago. An ankh on my back, I have been using it as my symbol since I was 7. I would also like to get the N7 badge from Mass Effect on my chest.

I have more, but I can't remember them for the life of me.
