I think that the reason it didn't sell well is because making a deep game with lasting appeal and making something that will sell well because it caters to a large audience are diametrically opposed to one another, in most cases anyway.

Fable 2 and 3 could have been amazing games, but weren't.
Funny, the other day while people were getting excited about the Ace Combat: Assault Horizon trailer, a few PS3 gamers pointed out that Namco Bandai was trying to market it to the CoD player-base by making it more shooting/action oriented. The aircrafts in the trailer never made any tight maneuvers, and the Pugachev and Kulbit that the Su-33 and F-22 pulled respectively were far too sudden not to be QTEs. Quite a few people got upset with the generic USA vs Russia setting as well.Casual Shinji said:Is this why every Last Guardian trailer has this bouncy musical score; So that it's more appealing to the mainstream? 'Cause I got to tell you, it was pretty offputting.
I hope Ueda isn't going to sacrifice new and interesting gameplay for the sake of marketability. Or is this why The Last Guardian has been delayed to 2012; So they can add more "bang for your buck", like multiplayer? ...All of a sudden I'm getting the shakes.

Don't worry I doubt that that snippet tells the whole story.ryo02 said:more appealing ... to the masses ... to sell more ... to mindless masses ... T_T NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I guess. Looking back, yeah, I had some issues with the camera at points, but I didn't have trouble with the controls. I don't remember the frame rate being any worse than most PS2 games at the time -- nothing an HD facelift won't fix. So yeah, technically, some tweaks could have been made, but I found myself enjoying the overall experience too much to get bogged down in small faults (small IMO, anyway).Mister Benoit said:Meh, I can't stand the play the game due to the controls. They feel delayed and awkward. Additionally the frame rate and camera is pretty junky.FullMetalZ said:Can't fault a man for setting higher goals, though I find it hard to believe that SotC could be any better.

Care to explain why? You seem rather easily offended. How do you survive on the Internet, Fluttershy?Frank_Sinatra_ said:Joking or not, there's no limit to how much comments like that piss me off.Raiyan 1.0 said:Of course it wasn't good 'nuff.

Oh I just hate all the damn elitism that infests the internet like this. If only the gaming community was a little less prejudiced and a little more accepting we can all see we have the potential to be so much more.Raiyan 1.0 said:Care to explain why? Ugh! I'll tell you what, there are less PC elitists than the number of people jumping on the 'all-PC-gamers-are-elitists' bandwagon unprovoked.Frank_Sinatra_ said:Oh I just hate all the damn elitism that infests the internet like this. For fuck's sake, do you seriously think that I'll criticize a game just because it isn't multiplatform? Why the hell d'ya think I was complaining (in jest, I might add) that this game isn't on my platform of choice if I didn't think it was brilliant? Exactly what part of my comment came off as elitist, i.e. I'm better than you?
Funny how you avoided my question about what part of my original comment came off as 'elitist'. As far as I'm concerned, the aforementioned elitists gain notoriety by complaining about linearity of games, lack of complex controls, high-quality visuals, etc of which I made none. Even through a text-based medium, I've to ask what part came off as elitist, since all I did was praise (by default, since I didn't criticize any of it's gameplay aspects) a console game, and merely wanted it on my platform (which is why I said the only way it's imperfect for me is due to the fact that it's not available on the PC). I did the exact opposite of looking down on a console game, which is why the 'elitist' branding is bewildering.Frank_Sinatra_ said:snip
