This idiot caused a great deal of grievous mental and emotional anguish on so many of these girls publicly. That kind of behavior can not be condoned by any authority that hopes to remain credible.
Someone comes along and posts fliers everywhere about how nice your boobs are, or how ugly your face is, or how so-and-so says you sleep around... and they're supposed to just be "okay" about it, or they have "emotional issues?"
That's what this guy did. It wasn't just "Hot." Read the article again--he took these girls apart in front of the school.
You'd be hard pressed to find someone who wasn't bullied at some time or another during their life. Ever heard the phrase "Ignorance is bliss"? Maybe even "What you don't know can't hurt you"?Krion_Vark said:so what people say behind there backs is fine as long as it doesnt get printed and shown all over or they dont hear about it?
Good point. The bullying I went through was severe, targeted and unrelenting for several years (1999-2003, then some different people from 2003-2007), mainly due to the fact I was a Londoner living in Newcastle, on the other side of the country. In the classes I was in, I was THE guy to go for, so I probably had it harder than a lot. I can't say I suffered the most, because I'm still alive.ZiggyE said:You'd be hard pressed to find someone who wasn't bullied at some time or another during their life. Also, you're clearly overestimating what these girls go through. Sure, the ones who get insulted will be pissed off for a few weeks, but it sure as hell won't last a few years. And lot's of people would be in the same boat considering he did it with 50 girls so they sure as hell won't be getting hell for it for years.
Apparently people like us are few and far between.MattAn24 said:Am I the only one who thinks it was right he was arrested? Blatant sexism and posting private details and treating them like objects.. Ugh.. It shows how much most guys respect women, and it sickens me.
They're real people. You do NOT humiliate them and "grade" them like that. I'm glad he got expelled too.
I'm sorry, but the word "slut" is not "oppressive". It's an unkind, gender-specific derogatory term for a promiscuous woman. It's wrong to talk that way about someone, but it is not the kind of hate speech that you seem to be suggesting.ViaGalactica said:Epic, butthurt snip
Whe you see humans I only see stupid men who want to show women their place, but I guess whatever works for you.Littlee300 said:You must of had a hella' good life if you consider this bad and haven't came to accept that humans act like this or given up on humanity.Anarien said:isn't this all a bit much for a stupid high school stunt?
A "stupid high school stunt"? Are you serious? Falling on your ass because you tried to ride a bike down some stairs qualifies as a "stupid high school stunt".
This was a calculated attack on adolescent females in a disgusting manner that showed no regard for their well-being or reputation. This was exploitation of minors, sexist, misogynist bullying and defamation. This kid got off way too lightly.
I agree with you. Even though I am not American, we have a similar judicial system over here.ionpulse2 said:snip

But the word 'slut' is used to oppress women to feel shame for their sexuality. Calling women 'slut's lead to slut-shaming which is what fuels rape culture in society. There are different types of oppression besides banning people from doing something you know? Shaming and humilliation are a form of exactly that. It may not be full-blown hate speech, sure. But it's still a sexist word use to put down women for doing absolutely nothing wrong.Dr Snakeman said:I'm sorry, but the word "slut" is not "oppressive". I'm not saying that it's wrong to be offended by something like this. You should definitely confront the person saying hurtful things about you. That's what a responsible, mature human being does. A spineless person, on the other hand, tries to press criminal charges for nothing more than adolescent douchebaggery. Prosecuting the kid blows this way out of proportion, and is a sign of utter weakness from the offended party.
Yup, and now it's all come full circle. This has to mean something, it has to...Bek359 said:Isn't this how Zuckerberg first started Facebook?
Yeah, because when someone refers to a woman as a *****, he's calling her a female dog, or when someone calls someone a bastard, they're saying his parents weren't married when he was born. Not every insult is literal.ViaGalactica said:But the word 'slut' is used to oppress women to feel shame for their sexuality. It was adolescent douchebaggery. Rating the opposite gender based on their looks? It happens all the time, everyday. And it's not just the men who do it. Would you call it a crime if a girl giggled to her girlfriend about how "X is SOOO cute" or "Y looks like he's a creep". Not at all. It's still just as offensive. The only difference is this guy went around and made it public, which is a douchebag thing to do.but that people dismiss his behaviour as just 'adolescent douchebaggery'.
