Wow, they arrested someone for this? Couldn't they have been solving a murder instead or something? I reckon it was the school's responsibility, not the police's.

Unless the pictures of these high school girls were pornographic in nature, there's absolutely no reason he should have been arrested. This is, at most, a defamation case.

I remember when I was in 4th grade and with a pony tail, lord knows if someone picks on you (by pulling your hair or anything of that nature) it's just "boys will be boys" but if you defend yourself when no teacher will help you are the one who needs anger management. So hearing this story doesn't really shock me. The US school system is screwed up enough as it is

I guess this all boils down to whether or not "Being an utter douche canoe" is a valid charge to arrest someone on.

I can't imagine any high school not having a list similar to this one. The only difference being that this guy was enough of an idiot to spread it to the masses. Hopefully they will drop the charges and allow him to return to school.

It's unlikely that this guy was the only person involved in the process of making this list and it is even more unlikely that any of the girls on that list have been harmed at all. The guy is a douche and an idiot alright, but ruining his future over a bad prank is just retarded.

Hello overreaction. Let me start out by saying, this guys an asshole, I think this situation justifies that term. But does being an ass really mean jail time, or expulsion for that matter? What can they charge him on? Disorderly conduct? That's a very vague term.
Look we all judge others, it's human. But what makes us different from douche-bags like this guy is keeping our mouth shut when we know it's right.

This is the stupidest thing in the world. Arresting someone for things they posted? What a great use of money and time. Since when is talking trash about people a serious offense? I am amazed that they actually arrested him, I should be in jail as well then.
This.

This whole debacle is fucking ridiculous. The kid was an idiot yes, but that's not grounds to arrest him. Hell, if what he did was a legally punishable offense, we'd all be in prison for the entirety of our lives. This is just plain stupidity, and a complete waste of time and money.
Seconded, I'm not saying what he did was right but it's nothing worth getting the law involved. Getting expelled from school must have been punishment enough and even that is too harsh in my opinion.

Boys, girls whatever. How about we not get into semantics? It was a dumb thing to do, but most teens aren't known for smart moves. This situation, the parents are just making an example of this kid, and rightly so. If a class mate of my daughter or son made public comments in a derogatory or sexually abusive way, you can bet your ass I would do whatever it took to get that little shit punished properly.

This is grossly privileged and demonstrates very poor understanding of even basic human ethics.

Just because males mentally evaluate women doesn't mean it is okay to publicly judge and shame them completely without any and all consent on their part.

Calling a woman a slut is also sexist. Slut in itself only exists to shame women exhibiting non patriarchy approved sexual behavior.

Please learn about how modern society oppresses and hurts women before you make such ignorant statements.
All that is true, but it's also irrelevant to the matter at hand. The fact of the matter is, when some dipshit in a high school calls a girl a slut, he gets yelled at, possibly given a detention depending on the school. There is no legal ramifications for the act.

Yet this kid, who did effectively the exact same thing, is now being thrown in juvey. What the fuck kind of sense does that make?

I mean, I could see a case for libel since he posted it in the public domain, but that's a civil offense and not punishable by jailtime.

This quote pretty much makes my argument for me by example.

Thank you for demonstrating privileged belligerence.
Is it really belligerence to demand equal treatment of everything?

Also, you'd probably get much more/better responses if you included the name and whatnot in your quotes so that the target gets a PM about it.

Why is it that doing something which would get you a mere slap on the wrist if done physically, gets you a consequence tenfold when it is done on the internet?
A case could be made that this will have serious ramifications on the future careers of the girls on the list, seeing as many employers use facebook in the vetting process. I personally find it a bit ridiculous and blown out of proportion, but I can see the argument for it and it does make sense.

"Many references insult the girls by race, ethnicity and sexual orientation."

I guess they should just change those too, right?

Golem239 said:
there's also nothing else to chage the kid with other than sexual harassment but I don't know if that can even be charged
Perhaps you should read the article properly; he's already been charged...

Im not defending the guy at all Im just saying that if u give some one fuel dont be upset when they start a fire

Well first and foremost The Escapist probably doesn't fairly report, at least from the sources you're using, the severity of the comments on the list "Many references insult the girls by race, ethnicity and sexual orientation." So this is personally insulting the people on it with more than stupid nick-names.

He also only rated 50 of the people at his school, which makes it even worse since those effected have clearly been chosen.

Racecarlock said:
Seriously though, almost every male does a similar ranking system in their minds. I guess they should be arrested too. In fact, looking at softcore porn should carry the death penalty. That'll show us not to express ourselves!
What part of "He also printed out hundreds of copies of the list and passed them out at the school during lunch before being stopped by staff." did you not understand?

Way to not take into account other peoples feelings [I'm sure this little stunt was hilarious for the person he rated "The Amazing Bisexual"] and completely missing the entire reason he was expelled. Of course he's going to judge people, it's natural, but what he did is ridiculous and defiantly deserves what he got.

Giest4life said:
This kid is completely cucko and sure send him to juvi because he has exhibited himself to be completely incapable of respect for his school and his peers.

Arrest and further punishment for this kid? That's a HELL FUCKING NO!
Why not exactly; it's not like he's going to go to jail, just juvenile court. Which is fair; an example should be set.
An example for what? If he obtained the information legally and made up the rest of it, there is no example to be set. Send him to juvi or expell him not following the honor code. He did not do anything immoral.

The guy is clearly a god of some description, but needs to go to jail.

Not my actual view, but all the "douche, but don't jail him" replies were getting monotonous.

Were the police bored that day (or month) or something? Shouldn't they be out doing more important things like preventing crime and catching criminals instead of protecting someone's ego?
