I seriously doubt that the organ the kid gave away will be used to "save a life". If it's still any good, it might go away for a idiotic high price to a dying patient with no other options left or it might be given to an improperly matched patient. I wouldn't put it past companies like these - the official ones aren't allowed to ask for money or give out money precisely to prevent stuff like this happening.

I did some research, a human kidney sells for 70 to 80 thousand, to be fair that's what you get if you're selling it to the person who needs it rather than to someone who will sell it to someone who needs it... still they fucked this kid over worse than gamestop

It's such a temporary object. I honestly wanna punch this kid in the face!
His selfish actions are only justifiable if he sold his kidney knowing that he'd be saving someone elses life, and the money for an ipad2 was a secondary bonus. Could have at least spent the money better imho.
My God, I really hope his kidney is used to save a life - Even if it was taken illegally.

Personally, I just feel sorry for the kid. He's down one kidney and possibly facing permanent health problems because he felt he needed a piece of technology that will likely be outdated in a year.

But 17 or not, nobody in their right mind would do this. When I was 17 I never would have sold an organ for anything. The proof? I still have all my organs! Most of us do I'll wager. This was an incredibly stupid thing for this kid to do. I do feel sorry for him, but only because he is a fool. And 3,000 dollars? In the least he could have gotten a better price. And if that scar is his they butchered him. Terrible.
