You're all neglecting the fact a life was saved by this.
Yes a life was saved, But what life? a life of a begger on the streets or a life of a 80 year old rich man
As I mentioned in a previous post I was being sarcastic and I totally get it did not come across that way.

But in all seriousness who is to say it went to an 80 year old rich man? and if it did why is the kids life more valuable? An old rich guy sounds like he made a lot of right decisions in life to live that long and that well off. I'm not trying to be a bastard about this but why does money matter here? I love how the article mentions how the organ runners made much much more money than the kid as if this is an issue of monetary worth. The kid grew up in an enviroment where he was not taught the value of his own health. This backs up a study I read a few years back about Chinese males and their lack of health awareness. The problem goes a lot deeper than people would like to admit.

Yes, he's an idiot, but I wouldn't exactly go and throw it around if I were you.

You honestly think that his parents (Or the guy himself) would fill out paperwork to have his kidney removed? Paperwork? Illegal organ removal network? Seriously?
Where...... did I say black market? I'm just saying either his parents signed off on him having his kidney removed (most likely) or he forged the paperwork (a possibility). You just don't come in and say hey, take it out now so I can make it home for dinner, there's a paper trail to follow so the medical staff can cover their ass legally. I just find it weird that a minor had his kidney removed for absolutely no good reason.

If he wanted to take a few years off his life to get an apple product he should have just gone to work for Foxconn.

Read the article again. It was a "private company" that had the hospital room, and they disappeared after it with no paper trail, partially due to the use of prepaid phones.

Sounds legit, doesn't it?

"Mom, I just sold my kidney for an Ipad. What's for dinner?"
IDont know Kidney beans.

anyway this is somewhat absurd.

I wonder how .. just how this went down with his parents.
Anyway that'd be somewhat of an understatement.

And judging by the fact she tried to take it to criminal court I think we can safely assume she freaked the hell out.

You have the right idea. As far as I'm concerned this is evolution at work. At least, as long as he doesn't pass on his genes.
What genes? Intelligence is determined by environment not genetics.
I wouldn't say that. There are geniuses that come from a house of rednecks, and dumb-shits that come from a house of doctors.

However, I'm talking about evolution. Those individuals that are unable to survive long enough to reproduce are strenthening the gene pool by taking themselves out of it. If this guy is dumb enough to sell a body part for a piece of technology and dies because of it, from a scientific point of view he's helping the gene pool.

And bringing your point, if intelligence is determined by environment, what kind of person would you expect the offspring to turn out like? "Daddy, where did that scar on your belly come from?" "I had a kidney removed to buy something I wanted very badly, but couldn't afford."

I would sell a kidney for money (and $3k is no coughing matter)

I wouldnt pay for a damn iPad but I sure as hell would get something nice with the moolah!
$3K is piss all to risk ongoing health problems, I would rather work hard for a month.

That is assuming you could find legal work where you live that would pay enough in a month (even if you worked 50+ hours a week) in order to get it.

I feel sick about this.
I really do.
"Oh no! I can't afford the iPad 2! The only logical solution therefore is to sell my kidney!"
What was going through his mind?
I feel exactly the same. Seventeen year old + ipad2 = for what??!!
It's such a temporary object. I honestly wanna punch this kid in the face!
His selfish actions are only justifiable if he sold his kidney knowing that he'd be saving someone elses life, and the money for an ipad2 was a secondary bonus. Could have at least spent the money better imho.
My God, I really hope his kidney is used to save a life - Even if it was taken illegally.
How does is seem selfish to you? I can't find anything selfish in trading something of yours for a retail item. It seems amazingly dumb to me, but not selfish. It'd be selfish if he sold someone else's kidney :p
Yeah, maybe it's not the right word, but in my mind, i meant it like - that kidney has life saving potential, and his conscious decision to put his self indulgence before considering this, led him to take up an illegal offer. Sure, the kidney MIGHT help someone if the guys that took it were just desperate. But it isn't guaranteed, and that's what i can't stand. His impatience and lack of judgement, made him ignorant toward the legal routes he could have taken to fulfil his material desires and help someone in the process. I know we all have a choice, our decisions are our own, and whether or not we choose to help others through our choices is only up to the individual making them.
But it pains me to see someone trade something of such great value for something so meaningless. Like i mentioned before, I really hope that kidney, although taken by dodgey tactics, really does end up helping someone.
Hmm, I'm really letting this thing get to me.
*slaps himself!*

^ oh my, thats kinda long. Sorry for ranting. I just realised that I do have a personal agenda with this guy's decision. I typed it all out, so i might as well post :p
