If this transaction hadn't been described as being so fishy, I would have seen this as a very nice story. I.e. if he had sold his kidney to someone who had needed it, then bought an Ipad. Still really creepy though...

Only thing that could be more creepy is if Apple sent the kid a replacement kidney...

Cool, where can I get this done? I would of course, negotiate up to 10,000 though. And to everyone about to quote me and call me stupid, I would do it.

He must have been high when this happened. No one in their right mind would have done this.

I'll save my spare kidney in case a sibling or parent ends up needing it, personally.

I certainly wouldn't invest it in a quickly outdated piece of technology.

I think this popped up a few years ago hear uni student selling there spare kidneys to pay of there uni bills. there was some huge stupid like statistic like 1 in 77 (I wasn't paying attention at the time) and believe it or not this was before the tuition cap rise.

oh and so the mediators arn't on my ass I just wont to say I don't know how but put the same post on two threads but they were both on the same subject so no harm the same no harm done.

I'd trade my eyes for a 3D laptop. I think we all would make the same decision this kid did.

Man, this is horrible.

He could have easily get $10,000 for that kidney.

I mean, you only have two, so make sure they sell at a high price!

This just saddens me.... the entire situation.

I can understand wanting something like that really bad, I'm a game junkie that has concerns for the future due to being permanantly disabled (which is part of the whole reason why). My parents won't work forever, and I only managed to work 10 years (lame social security) with prices and everything else going through the roof. I have all kinds of problems, with goverment health coverage in danger of being cut every minute.... and really I can see myself at sixty living under a bridge, or being "slow killed" in a hospital that doesn't want to support me, or all kinds of other situations... never mind being able to keep myself occupied.

I'm in the US, and can't imagine what it must be like in China. The kid is young and stupid to do something like that. He's going to be facing even worse concerns about the future than me doubtlessly now, and on top of that I can't help but wonder at a society where a kid has to scrape THAT much to get a bloody Ipad (expensive yes, but I wouldn't think "selling a kidney" expensive for a young guy who can work). It also makes me somewhat angry to hear people going off about materialism when the society is such a wreck that such a thing is that far out of reach for someone who can apparently work.

I mean in the US the typical story is more like "Kid wants an Ipad, parents can't afford one, kid runs a few drug packages after school for some extra cash, buys one, parents freak especially when the police come calling". That's messed up enough, but I can't get my mind around selling an organ.

And the most pathetic bit of the story is that the iPad 2 <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108536-How-Apple-Carved-a-Pound-of-Flesh-from-the-iPad-2>isn't even that special.

I can't even draw the energy to facepalm...
Isn't an Ipad already massively out of date? I swear there was a comparison between one and a Dell Tablet from 6 years ago where the Ipad lost as far as tech specs went.

Edit:

I can't work out what would drive someone to do this.

I mean, I know I really want something, I save for it....
