Script Kiddies are the most retarded of any Cracker. They get a program that they know will work but have no idea how it works. This kid is also retarded for getting banned for cheating then going way overboard for a reaction to cheating.

That'll teach him to DDOS without a sufficient proxy. A tard is he.

Also - messing with someone like Sony is pretty retarded anyway. Then again, we are talking about someone who got all butthurt over a ban. The internet: serious, indeed.

I'm glad he got sentenced. Hopefully this will show him that even over the internet, your actions affect people.
Hopefully they will start doing this to other hackers.

'It's like this, berk. You break the law, I break you'. Cookie if you get the reference. He cheated, got banned and then trying to get even, he got fined and then some. Justice, mofo.

I like how there's almost as much indignation in this thread about him cheating at a video game as there is about him propagating a virus to create a botnet to DDoS a major server.

For some reason this makes me wonder what happened to that guy who was suspected of stealing game code from a recent convention and didn't show up for his court date. Did that ever go anywhere?

*goes looking for that story*

The internet. You're anonymous until you screw someone over. Then that anonymity disappears VERY quickly.

Don't they all? Not only do they cheat, they use noob weapons, and etc on top of it.

Also: This isn't five years ago kiddies. These companies know the damage cheaters cause to their online communities and hence their business, so they're gonna do whatever to stop you from doing it. If banning you means they keep five customers, they don't care.

He has no right to launch an attack for being caught cheating. That's just silly. That's like getting mad at someone for stopping you from stealing something, then shooting them.

But idiots are idiots, good thing he has $5,000 less to annoy people and do stupid things.
He is a minor. His parents have "$5,000 less to annoy people and do stupid things."

I'm no expert on this but I believe that in order to make a bot-net he needed to infect all the computers in the net with a virus that gave him some control over random people's computers.
You don't have to create it to control it. It's possible that he used an existing bot net, but not likely as he was convicted of distributing a virus, and he wouldn't have if he didn't have a hand in creating that bot-net. You don't infect each computer individually either. You pass on a virus, it infects the machine and in turn redistributes itself by whatever means of propagation it was programed with (usually email).

I pretty much agree companies are being given to much leeway with their products and services. It seems to be a continuing trend that our lawmakers do not have enough technical knowledge to fully understand the ramifications of the laws they are creating. The consumer is the one that is suffering for it, the very people they where elected by.

The part I find hard to believe is this guy is taking responsibility and admitted to being willing to pay the price. You never hear that from other hackers who get caught.

If he never would have cheated than he would have never have been banned. He could not even let the ban go and just ended up in even more trouble. I am guessing he cheated in the multiplayer part of the game.

I admit that I cheat but only when the developer programs cheats into their game. I also use mods for the PC games I play but only for the single player.
