Someone call the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHMBULANCE. But seriously, I somewhat believe that this is a fairly just judgement.

I admit that I cheat but only when the developer programs cheats into their game. I also use mods for the PC games I play but only for the single player.
Those poor, poor pixels..... Pretty victimless crime. Giving other people a hard time though, whether over the internet or in reality, is certainly punishable.

Well, its nice to see that they are taking it seriously and taking action. Even better to see the lad take accountability for his action.

I know other wont learn from this, but, they should take note and be aware to accept the consequences

If only I could go back in time, and kill the first hacker. Perhaps life as we know it would be most awesome indeed. I can't believe how serious this shit gets. You know what... I'm going to choose this one as my answer for the other thread "Serious stuff gone hilarious" or whatever it was called.

Had it occurred to this kid to, you know, maybe PLAY games as an alternative? Last time I checked, cheating so you wouldn't have to play the game properly entirely defeated the point of spending time with a game in the first place.

Oh snap, the FBI is here, they want to take away my anime figurines collection. I WILL FIGHT THEM WITH MY SLAYER SWORD I GOT FROM THE LAST GOLDEN DEAMON. FOR THE MIDDLE-EARTH.

I approve of this kid, it's not like SOCOM was a good game anyway. Good that he was a juvenile, or he would get some rectal adventures in some state prison, once Sony would unleash its lawyers.

The fact that some sucker with 0 skillz used a shit botnet and got community service is not the big news here. How the anus did the Sony lawyers come up with that figure for compensation?!

What I hate the most is the fact that companies get so angry instead of preventing it in the future.
Gamers will be gamers.

He got caught cheating within a game, so he didn't have much of a right to be angry at Sony in the first place if you ask me.

I'm glad he got sentenced. That said, though, $5000 is still a lot of money, especially for anyone who probably isn't actively working. The kid's made things very hard for his future self, I'm guessing.

What is the difference between unlawful use of a computer and criminal use of a computer????

Anyway, serves him rite idiot. he got caught hacking and was punished, so to rectify that he hacked some more. Where is the logic?

Oh, this isn't the guy who jailbroke it? Good.

Revenge hacking is idiotic, he deserves it.

One is criminal, and one is against the law, DUH (lol, I don't know what the hell the difference is supposed to be either)

He got what he deserved. Who is stupid enough to hack a Sony website because you got caught cheating? Besides this kid, of course.
I wonder how his thought process went when he came up with this brilliant scheme.

It looks like he learned his lesson - or at least I think he did. The court didn't go all out on him and he admitted the crime. Fair justice.

What's more given that consoles are a family possession with multiple users at times, I'm a bit uncomfortable with the idea that "it wasn't me, it was someone else" isn't considered to be a valid excuse. An entire family being punished for the actions of one moron, or because a friend that came over was being a jerk while using your system.
But isn't that just the way life is?
How many laws/restrictions have to be made or revised because people do stupid stuff?
DRM is here because of piracy, for example. The majority of consumers have to suffer for the idiotic, selfish acts of the minority.

When I was young, we had snowball fights at school! But that was banned.
Harsh speed limits, RIDE checks, airport luggage and carry on item restrictions, and I'm sure there is more. These are all things that are around because people did dumb stuff. I don't drive 100 km/h down residential streets, but now I have to go 40 instead of 60 because of some douche. I don't belong to a terrorist network or want to blow up a plane, but I can't carry a bottle of water or something on a plane now.

That's just the way the ball bounces.

Of course it didn't. He was probably one of those idiots who only has fun ruining other peoples' fun by making it impossible for them to win. Thus the cheating.

"Haha, he just nerdrage quit! I'm so awesome!" What a bag of douche. I'm glad he got served... that is, assuming he actually cheated at all and Sony isn't just pinning some extra story on him.

As to the talk of these sort of judgements being handed down without any real technical knowledge or knowledge of the people behind or playing these games, I have to agree. There need to be gamers out there with legal knowledge that set the laws for these sort of things, or at least people from a legal background that know more about gaming than joe-shmoe.

What a stupid kid. You'd think at 17 years old he'd be mature enough to get over it. Obviously not.

I wish they would have stipulated that he couldn't use computers. The obnoxious brat will probably hit some other target that's less able to defend itself.
