O.K....

First of all, the Daily Mail article: I mean, c'mon, that scare sheet?
Secondly, The Cyber Security home page? I dare anyone else not to fall around laughing at the picture of the two "teens" on the front page.
Thirdly, the picture of Dr. Tanya Bryon in the cheesecake pose.
Fourthly, a site that sells security products says that kids spend too much time online?
Fifthly, doesn't most collagen or cosmetic surgery also have pictures of bare boobs on it, therefore distorting the results heavily?
You, sir... I like you.

Back when I looked at it did, but now my urges have changed...and not for the better!

One thing I don't like, cyber snooping. Seriously, do we CARE what teenage girls are doing on the web? No, we don't. Unless we are A: Bored or B: Creepers. I personally spend a lot of time online browsing the websites I like, but I have not become "one with the MySpace" although I may have become "one with the xbox 360 wireless controller" except I'm having trouble playing guitar hero without the controller. evil guitar shaped cotroller and your weird shape.

So "teens" don't play games at all but "research" plastic surgery atleast an hour a week on average? I call BS.

A lot of people do. Check the cyber celeb badge and yellow name o' doom!

On topic though, I think these results are heavily skewed by all the girls hogging the home computers. I mean, come on. The porn is the guys, MSN and such is everyone, but the rest of that data is so from girls!

One hour spent researching cosmetic surgeries
1.5 hours spent checking out family planning and pregnancy information
One hour, thirty-five minutes spent studying diets and weight loss
One hour, twenty-two minutes on medical sites for illnesses and puberty
One hour, fifteen minutes spent strolling through dating sites
Three hours, ten minutes doing homework

o_O.. really?!?!

I mean, come on...

What?!

No-one...

No-one....

Spends 3 hours a night on homework!
It's per week - 3 hours a week on homework sounds about right, if you assume they are researching some topic or finding the perfect paper to steal.

Considering the fact that we can't see the questions that were asked to get this data, chances are it was skewed - I think a lot of people do use the internet for health related questions, but probably not 6-8 hours a week... that's obviously excessive, unless they were all slight hypochondriacs.

I was going to comment on this thread then remembered I am not a teenager and now feel old. Thanks a lot assholes.
I'll comfort you - 3 more years and I'm no longer a teenager myself.

But I do believe teenage is usually under 18, so that means I'm "mature" in a bit less than that.

Damn.

I don't think porn is a waste of time
Wasn't the internet created for porn?
"If all the porn was taken off the internet, there's be one site left, and it'd be called 'bring back the porn.com'"-Dr. Cox.
Reminds me of another thing I've heard.

"You have the nr. 1 non-porn related site on the Internet!

...Which makes it one billionth of them all."

Yeah well these statistics are not surprising, seeing how much time my sister and I put onto our computers.

Thirded, and the motion is passed.

I find the figures of this study to be bullshit. First, people are too varied to lump their activities together like this... I'd bet half or more of teens never even look up puberty, I sure never did. And do you honestly think more than a half-percent of guys actually go to family planning websites? No, averages are as useful and reliable as wings on a hotdog.

No, this study rings of bullshit and misinformation. Hell, I alone would have skewed the results as a participant, zero hours doing homework online, twenty four plus hours of porn (especially back then), five hours online gaming, and at least a couple hours a week chatting on MSN. None of the rest of that crap.
Forth...ded? Except replace 'porn' with...

*cough*

Never mind...

For me it's:

Maybe 5 hours of anime
20 minutes of other videos
30 minutes of TV Tropes
15-20 minutes of other research
30-60 minutes of games
1 hour+ of forums
0 hours of homework
30 minutes of music

Do that many people really spend their internet time on the crap they listed?

Also is that kid in the picture male or female? ...I really can't tell...

Motion Carried.

No way do I spend 31 hours online. Well, I suppose if you take off the time spent gaming online, and then the "half-online-browsing-forums" you bring the total down to about 35-40.

And Avida, you're absolutly right. No-one spends that long doing homework.

I think it's time for an Escapist experiment. We all fill in a diary of time spent online, doing what etc. and report back at the end of the week. It'd be interesting to see how "teenagers" differs from "gamers"
Now that is a good idea, you should do that.

1000 of our scummiest and most self-centered teens were chosen for this illustrious survey I'm sure... hardly an accurate depiction... unless the youth just behind me has completely gone mad, though that's easy to believe. What British teen spends time on dating sites? They're already at it like moronic little rabbits... spreading their worthless genes all ovver tge place, though the family planning statistic is therefore much more believable.

It deserves more.
Not that I visit anymore ever since I got over my addiction.
EDIT: Also it's a girl. You can tell by the shorts: No guy could wear shorts like that. Also the legs.
...Or else he's a crossdresser.
You're right. It's more like +60 minutes once I get on a roll...

Damn my thirst for useless knowledge...

Oh and I thought it was a dude because of the face...

honestly i can believe it. i'm at university now, and between going out, and lectures+work, i spend most of my spare time connected to the Internet, either though XBL, MSN, or using the internet directly
