Telltale Reveals New Trailer, Details for Minecraft: Story Mode


Telltale revealed the World Premier trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode at Minecon today, along with new details and cast list.

"You'll control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt," a blog post [https://www.telltalegames.com/blog/97267/minecraft-story-mode-reveal-trailer-and-first-cast-details] reads. "Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon." The Order consists of a Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect, all of whom are "the very best at what they do."

"While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion."

Staying in the vein of the Telltale formula, Minecraft: Story Mode is a five part episodic game, with the player dictating the story through narrative and action sequence choices.

"We've worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love," said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games. "As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale's choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can't wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft."

The all-star cast Bruner was speaking of for Minecraft: Story Mode includes Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille), Brian Posehn (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight), Martha Plimpton (The Goonies), Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead), Corey Feldman (The Goonies), Billy West (Adventure Time), and Paul Reubens (Pee-wee's Big Adventure).

"The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe," said Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang. "They've crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It's actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We're super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year."

Minecraft: Story Mode will hit PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android later this year.

why didn't they use the regular Steve model as the main character

Feels like a trailer for a regular Minecraft 3D animation you see on YouTube but with professional voice actors.

And it seems like the characters are real life people playing the game, I would've preferred people who are actually in the Minecraft universe as characters.

I was thinking the same thing.

Knowning Telltales for their renown story telling, it made me wonder why they couldn't made a mod on it on Minecraft (yet) but yet again Minecraft is about freedom so being given a sole/ narrow story route would goes against it.

Yeah, no, this ticks me off. The effort and resources put into this could have had Season 3 of The Walking Dead or Season 2 of Wolf Among Us come out sooner. Plus, who is this even marketed to? There's very little overlap between Telltale game players and Minecraft players when compared to, say, the type of person who would play their games but also consume the previous media adaptations they've done.

Lets wait and see. Recently, we've had things like Guardians of the Galaxy, LEGO movie and the upcoming Ant-Man. These were experiments that succeeded(Ant Man TBD), so lets just wait. Maybe its good, maybe not, but they're trying something different.

I just hope they change the mouth "animation", because that really threw me off.

I doubt that character is supposed to be Steve. Also, white people can get a tan.

OT: I love Telltale, but I wish they would stop starting up new games and just finish the ones they've already started. Though I'm mostly saying this because I want them to get round to doing The Wolf Among Us season 2.

Plus Borderlands does have a fairly detailed lore with a large part of its community who loves to read about it. Minecraft, like you said, has no lore to speak of, as it's just an open world that is randomly generated.

This really does just seem like a name cash in. I mean Game of Thrones, Waling Dead and Wolf all came from strongly narrative driven sources, and Borderlands at least had a story to work with in the first place. Minecraft is just a head scratcher, especially when Telltale's audience wants more of what they've already got.

I'm pretty sure TWD season 3 is being handled by a different team at TTG, and why would this make you mad? There are people are gonna like The new Minecraft game, let them enjoy their fun.

Simple, allocation of resources. Every person working on this is someone who isn't working on one of the 4 other active series they have that people are waiting for, to say nothing of the fact that they've pushed back the release of some of said series due to the fact they don't want to flood the market by having releases that are too close to each other.

People may find this game fun, but they're definitely outnumbered by those who like me will have to wait longer for games we've been waiting for because of one no one asked for. At least TWD, Wolf, GoT and Borderlands all had people actively asking why no story driven games had been made for them before they where announced. Minecraft was not one of those properties.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's kinda worrying that this game looks even worse than Minecraft. The insanely bad lightning, the completely out of place animations, the bad models (funny considering that the regular MC models consist of a maximum of 10 boxes), shiny textures of literally everything... I mean, how the fuck can you fuck something up this hard? Except for the VA, it's worse than many amateur 3D animations you can find on youtube.

And I'm no fan of any of the Telltale games (besides Sam and Max), but I would say it's a really freaking dick move to take up another project while they have several other projects open. They aren't making regular games. They are making episodic games, so people are forced to wait even more for the conclusion of the story. Unlike lets say Mario or Zelda, where each game is a game on its own, those games heavily rely on the previous and next game to make it work. If you're gonna make episodes, then better make them damn fast and don't make your fans waiting.

I'm on the fence. Minecraft was too much of a sandbox with no plot or canon, and seeing a "Story" take place raises too many questions.

Well...I think we can all finally admit TellTale is spiraling the drain. I mean this is just desperate and sad. Before long we'll have TellTale presents Pac-Man: The Untold Angsty Story and Pong: It's About Sadness and Making Choices

But then again TellTale peaked at SBCG4AP, so I'm not overly shocked this is how they choose to go out. they've always been about leaching onto a popular franchise for name recognition. They did it with Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, so it makes sense they'll do it with MineCraft.
Just be glad they didn't make a League of Legends or Pokemon game.

I'm trying to decide if I should buy this or not. That soundtrack is amazing, but I'm still really unsure about Minecraft having a serious story.
