Can you play GW2 with a control pad?
Apparently you can use one in Tera, is that correct? If one offered it and the other didn't that would make my choice easy.
As long as you could assign the keys, then yeah, I bet GW2 would be playable with a pad, or many-buttoned mouse. There's a limited suite of skills that need to be assigned.
Tera not so much, it has the same ability scope as games like WoW and Rift.
As someone who seriously looked into doing this, I'd advice against it. Let's look at the xbox 360 controller for example.
Left analog stick: movement
Right analog stick: camera
So far so good but this is where it gets tricky. You still have 4 shoulder buttons and 4 action buttons on the right (X Y A B).
And you should somehow fit 10 skills on them, plus buttons for weapon switch, jump and dodge? Not to mention the class-specific extra buttons like the elementalist's 4 element attunements.
I guess you could use the 4 directional buttons on the left as 4 extra action buttons but there's a reason xbox games never do that: you can't press them while moving around since your thumb is on the left analog stick. It may not seem like a big deal but it's pretty inconvenient in the heat of battle.
And don't even get me started on navigating menus, your inventory or the auction house. And the biggest one of them all: typing!
Those last few issues are not combat related though, so I guess you could just use the pad exclusively during combat and keyboard + mouse otherwise. (Provided you somehow solve the problems I mentioned earlier) But that isn't really an option either when you, like me, were planning to hook your pc up to you tv with an HDMI cable and than play from the sofa with a wireless controller.
If any of you see a convenient solution to all this I'd be very happy to hear it. Personally, the only thing I can think of is buying a pc gamepad with more buttons than an xbox 360 controller. Or to "create" extra buttons through button combinations like "upper left shoulder button + A". But that still wouldn't solve the issues outside of combat and there's a fair chance that the button combo thing won't even be possible.
OT: GW2 all the way. Honestly I don't know much about TERA but it looks veeeery korean, wich is an instant no-no for me.
