Resource mining in Mass Effect 2. Also the mission on board the derelict reaper. Husk spam makes me rage.
Oh god the mining, the only good thing to come out of that was the song.
But for some reason I liked the Reaper mission, hell I liked any mission were they just kept tossing husks at me, I thought it was fun burring through five guns worth of ammo, then again I like the flood levels on halo.
Pretty soon I'm going to have to do the Reaper mission as an infiltrator. On insanity. I can't imagine that being fun at all.
Oh god that wont be fun at all, hell I did it on insanity with a solider and still ran out of bullets, and nothing is quite as scary as being a solider with no ammo. Good luck to you though, hell that's going to be a royal pain in the ass.

I'll list some from RPG's... why not?
- Knights of the Old Republic: Taris
So the first 3rd of the game? Fair enough.

How about all the bits of CoD World at War that weren't the Sniping Mission or Nazi Zombies. Ok thats not fair I enjoyed CoD:WaW, but I am putting down it's tank mission as the low point. Such a bad section of an otherwises pretty decent game.

Also, I LIKE the fade section. Yeah, how's that.
Okay, okay Taris wasn't completely horrible, but we can all agree it was way too long.
It wasn't too bad, but the main problem is if you actually level up at all then you get fewer Jedi levels (since the level cap is 20, and you can hit 9-10 in Taris). I actually got through it once without leveling my main char at all, though that was fucking rough. At least they figured it out for the second game that most people want to be a jedi when playing a game about jedi.

I'm gonna go with the complete lack of armor in Planescape: Torment. The Nameless One tended to take tons of damage due to the fact that he never learned how to duck and thinks scars are perfectly serviceable armor, so why would you need anything else?
Yeah I did that once. By the time you get Zalabarr you just let him pick up the slack while you sit there with your level 2 dick in your hand :p

So I was playing through Metro 2033, and having a lot of fun with it. But then I came to the amoeba part, the fucking amoeba part. That part was one of the most nightmarishly frustrating rooms I've ever seen in a game. It's really a shame too because the rest of the game was excellent and it really drags down the game to have a part this annoying and sloppy that close to the conclusion.

So, what are some parts you guys thought were terrible in otherwise great games?
Wait... what was the problem with the Amoeba bit? It's not like it was difficult to kill them or protect the guy that helps you.
The most annoying bit was the crane usage.

For me... the whole beginning of Darksiders, until it gets to the puzzling and tributing to LoZ.

the sections where you have to man a turret in the Wanted game ruined what otherwise was decent. As for the Library it was fun as fuck just like the rest of the game

Really? Nobody's gonna say Xen?

Well... Xen. There.

That was the first level in any game which lowered my enjoyment by a full happy-point. That's right. A full happy-point.

Anything that wasn't zombie killing in Dead Rising.
Seconded. The only real enjoyable thing that didn't involve Zombie Killing was killing Cultists, but that's because they kinda behaved like Zombies.

People may hate me for it, but AFTER THE INITIAL PLAYTHROUGH (in wich the level is really fun) Ravenholm in Half-Life 2 kind of sucks for breaking an otherwise great pacing and having some annoying setpieces.

I like the Nightmare Sections of Max Payne, but i could do without flimsy Jump And Run Blood-Trail Segments.

The Middle East Flashback in Splinter Cell Conviction obviously sucks. It's a pure shooter section in a STEALTH game. With the Stealth Options/Skills just being TURNED OFF. It requires some kind of Anti-Genius to come up with something like that.

The Vehicle Level in BOTH Gears of War Games. But to be fair, Gears of War 2's level was a huge improvement over the first one and it made up with two "kind of a vehicle" sections that were pretty cool.

Underwater Levels are generally annoying, but Metal Gear Solid 2 easily takes the cake thanks to a horrible camera, horrible controls and EE's stupid lungs ^^.

Most RPGs i know seem to start off with having the most annoying parts at the beginning of the Game. Gothic 2 (in wich you have already a lot of freedom but you are completely incapable of fighing anything more dangerous than a big rat), Baldurs Gate 2 (there are even Mods that will skip the first dungeon), Planescape Torment and even the Shooter Hybrid Alpha Protocol suffer from this, for example.

Also, just about ANY Sewer Level sucks in my opinion.

That said, there are probably more examples and, to be honest, just about any game i like will reveal sections that are more annoying than the rest of the game, although it's most of the time just minor stuff. (Like Mass Effect 1 with the initial Citadel Section being a bit too long or Max Payne 2's "Funhouse Level" in wich there is nothing to do wich can be annoying once you've seen it all)

The Fade in Dragon Age: Origins, the one hiccup in an otherwise brilliant game. If you're not a magic user it's just so bloody difficult.
Really? I played a Warrior and don't remember it being any harder than many other parts of that game. Some of it was a bit tough and the puzzle with the doors was annoying, but some of the other parts were worse.

I'd definitely agree with the Little Sister escort mission in Bioshock. Felt very out of place. Defending the Little Sisters in the second game was one of about five reasons I felt it didn't come close to the strength of the the original. Was still enjoyable.

Yes, that part was horrid! If only that bastard Miller would have the energy to run! It would have been so much easier than just slowly walking through all that goo.

For me it was Star Wars: Force Unleashed.
I was really enjoying the game and was looking forward to the part where you use the force to pull a Star Destroyer out of the sky, the movie clip in the advert looked great. Then I actually got to the section where you get to do it.

I lost count of the number of attempts I took where I got most of the way through then had to stop because I was going out, or doing something IRL.

That section seems to depend on your weapon selection.
First time, which I hated, I used Silenced/Scoped/Stocked Revolver, AS Val and Auto-shotgun with bayonet. It was fucking impossible.

Second time, I used the Longbarreled/Scoped/Stocked Revolver, Silenced AK 2012 and Scoped Hellsing. I breezed through it in two tries.

The Water Temple in Ocarina of Time such a frustrating temple.
Every time I hear/read someone complain about that dungeon I want to smack the person and say "Duh, it's a dungeon. It's supposed to be challenging!"
Changed that for you. The dungeon was not designed to be frustrating. If something is frustrating, then it is no longer fun for the player. Challenging on the other hand can still be fun. When it's challenging it's hard, but you're still motivated to try again and again.
