Field marshal Douglas Haig. Yes he was the Butcher of the Somme, yes he was obstinate, old fashioned and incompetent, but he was a product of the system he was promoted in, won the Great War, and spent much of the rest of his life looking after ex-servicemen. I don't respect all of him but I do respect some.
Every person who has gone down in history for doing something terrible was most likely worthy of respect in some detail of his life or career.
Genghis Khan. Assembled and ruled over arguably the largest area of land ever conquered and did so in a single lifetime, was said to be highly intelligent, cunning and fair. Unless you fought against him, or killed his messenger... not wise. Also the most prolific father in recorded history, damn.
Hitler.
He had the balls to fix the crippled Germany at the time. Sure the economy overheated by 1939 and was a tactical moron at times but I really quite like the Prussian/Imperial German state so i admire him for trying to rebuild that since Versaille really did ass rape them.
Though the whole Mein Kampf thing being a good book is crap, its pretty bad.
Mussolini was also pretty cool though he still failed to prepare Italy for a major war

Mussolini for sure. I'm half Italian, and he (along with fascism) did a lot of magnificent things for the country. Unfortunately, he was just man, and wanted to be best buddies with Hitler a little too much...
Even though I'm very liberal, I honestly thing that run correctly, all political systems can work just as well as capitalist ones. There have been great things done under capitalism, imperialism, feudalism, communism, and fascism. They all have a killer flaw, for sure, but nothing in this world is perfect.
