Justin Bieber. Even if his music is bad, he's getting pretty far at his age. That's one hell of an accomplishment.

I have to say Hitler, since I cannot be assed to think of anyone else. The dude nearly took over all of Europe. Europe.
It would be more accurate to say that his badly outnumbered, oddly poorly equipped (the first Panzers to see action generally weren't fantastic against what the allies had, most tank fights were won because German tank crews were like some kind of tank ninjas) neglectfully supplied (they used horses for logistics throughout the whole war. Look it up) and moronically led (fucking Goering) soldiers nearly took over all of Europe.

Gengis Khan is probably my personal favorite. Especially after taking History of Western Civ and watching Mongol. Amazing man. Seriously amazing.

Rasputin actually.

He was a "Holy man" that slept with just about anyone he could for favors, power, and pleasure. He didn't uphold his holy preachings at all. He helped those who could repay him, and never did anything for someone other than him. He manipulated the system to the point where the Russian leader could barely touch him.

But he was a man of charisma, and if he had actually attempted to do great things for the country, I get the idea that he just might have. And that *****. Just. Plain. Refused. To Die!
Gotta agree with you there.. He was first poisoned which really didnt work, so they shot him and left him. He survived the gunshots too, gets a few exstra bullets and thrown into the river. Later autopsy shows that he didnt drown but froze to death.
Gotta give him the credits of being persistent.

I must ask...elaborate on what terrible things Gandhi did?
before he was known for being peaceful (which didn't change too much) he actually was a hot-headed thug. he started riots, killed british military grunts that tried to stop the riots, went to jail more than once for violence and murder, and anti-british protesting. while he was being peaceful he (sometimes unintentionally) condoned riots and violence, he hypocritically killed his own wife, by denying her a surgery that would have saved her life (blood transfusion, some "against our religion" thing.) which, a few years later, he himself had done to save his own life. i don't remember exactly, but if i do, he was part of a gang, that beat, killed, burgled, raped, and stole from, any british supporter's, but what i do know, he was very violent and had a history of violence long before he was known as a peaceful hunger striking man in his 30's. his teens and 20's were bloody and brutal, and thats not just british propoganda from back then too.

The killers poisoned cakes I believe, and the amount of poison in the cakes was supposed to kill him with a single cake, but he ate an entire batch.

They realized it didn't work and attempted to club him to death.

When they came back and he was groaning on the ground, they shot him a few times, wrapped him up in a carpet, and tossed him in a river.

When he was found, there was enough poison in his system to easily kill a man, the gun shot wounds should have killed him, and yet his hands were still positioned on the ropes, as if he were attempting to untie them. It was the exposure that finally killed him.

H.P. Lovecraft, the man was an awful racist and often made antisemitic comments to his Jewish wife. The guy was an asshole but he created some of the greatest horror stories of all times.

Genghis Khan and Hittles.Sure, one unites a world and the other destroys it but a formidable enemy is one you respect. To do otherwise is stupid and warrants underestimation on the part of the idiot.
Genghis Khan? Really? He achieved the destruction of China's greatest era, and murdered something like thirty/forty million people.

The one thing going for him was that he was a brutally effective commander; an ability that his grandson lacked entirely.

Fidel Castro holds a special place in my heart. However Joseph Stalin, Adolph Hitler, Kim Jong Il, and Alexander the Great, who have been mentioned regularily in this thread, I frankly do not respect at all. Butchers of the world, and of their own people. Though I give props to Genghis Khan, until his son fucked everything up.
Grandson. his son was actually reasonably capable.
Well, the topic did say terrible people did it not?Even then,he did it for his people.

adolf hitler. he was a lunatic and a racist engineer of genocide, but he had an iron will that all politicians today lack. there is not a man alive today who could drag a country from a debt ridden scrap heap into a power that demolished 90% of europe and had the soviet union shaking in its boots, in the space of about 15 years ( i forget how long he was actually in power).

the westborough baptist church. not for their total lunacy, but because they are the only christian denomination to follow the bible TO THE LETTER. i despise religion with a passion, but this one at least has no members who try a stealthy approach to outsiders and show their foul religion for what it truly is.

TO BE HONEST, IM NOT SURE THATS EVEN RESPECT. ID SAY ITS MORE A GLADNESS THAT THEY EXIST AND SHOW CHRISTIANITY FOR WHAT IT IS IN ITS HEART.

its ironic that the people we despise the most often have the greatest achievements.

Charlie Sheen. Can't help but respect a man who's so winning.

And Prof. Oak, sending 10 years olds out into the wild on their own to actively seek out dangerous monsters. But you gotta admire his commitment to his research.

Hitler. If he wasn't a bigot, he would possibly be the greatest leader ever.
NEIN NEIN NEIN!

If I hear someone say this again my head may just explode! Haha.

That's a huge myth. Hitler made many, many unrepairable awful leadership errors and was certainly not the best man for the job.
In terms of war, genocide, and racism yes. But he had died in say 1930 he would probably be considered the among greatest people in modern history.
Not Really... All of his economic policies were basically ridiculous short term gambits, most of which actually REQUIRED the country to operate under police state conditions or constantly be at war (and we all know how that ultimately turned out...) Other than that one time with Chamberlain, he was a complete moron when it came to foreign policy aswell.
