Why is Canada at the centre of most recent WoW scandals? First the orc vs wife thing, and now this.

Ew. World of Warcraft is starting to seem increasingly sinister. My friend spent a year in America. Got addicted to it. And ignored about 5 girls who were madly infatuated with him [or so he says].

Well, glad I got out of the game when I did - or maybe not... hehe.

But really, some people are not meant to be parents.

Barrie, Ontario. That it where I live, I heard about this on the news, on new years eve.
I live in Barrie too!
No freaking way!

And I totally did not hear about this.
That kid is, as we Canucks say, freaking retarded.
And the parents aren't winning any awards, I can tell you that.
Really? I always pictured you living in Toronto. By the way, stop sending snow down to the States, we're getting slammed (not surprising considering I live in Erie, but still).

Being a stupid parent, sadly, is not a criminal offense in either Canada or the U.S.
If only that were the case

Thats just stupid. The kid was legal where they fucked so they have no case. And once again the american legal system mystifies the rest of the world.
As several people have pointed out she was arrested for crimes committed in the States not for the act itself. For example, if you bought a gun legally in the US and took it to the UK it would still be illegal there.

First off... it's Texas. Each state here has their own ways of handling their laws.

Secondly... she broke her state's laws of soliciting minors over the internet. Seventeen is the legal age of consent in Texas. She's being charged for two counts of online solicitation of a minor and one count of child enticement because his age is sixteen.

They're allowed to do that and I'm glad they did.

EDIT: Ninja'd...

this seems fairly familiar.... wait a sec...

oh, right, this happened before!
(read it on wow drama):

"A 31-year-old Australian university student is being held in lieu of $2.35 million bail in North Carolina after allegedly flying there to pick up her 17-year-old World of Warcraft boyfriend and fly him back to Adelaide with her, Pitt County Sheriff?s officials said.

Tamara Broome, who met the teen a year ago in the game, told her roommate that her travel to the U.S. last week had been paid for by the teen?s parents so ?they could sort it all out.? Broome?s parents say the whole thing was a set up.

Broome was arrested after stepping off an Amtrak train in South Carolina last Saturday. She faces more than two years in jail if found guilty.

To think, one more year and this would have just been a happy story."

now for the quotes on the comments wich seem appropiate to the news!! (funny as hell!)

?on a side note where are all these lonely 30 something women that keep trying to screw around with underage guys? Don?t they know you can just go to a bar or frat house and at the very least be some guys last resort.?

?Ah, the perils of nerd love.?

? At least it really was a chick.?

?curse you parents! that was his first and only chance in hooking up with a woman, now he?s doomed to do unimaginable things to the night elf dancing animation >.> again.?

? But were they Alliance or Horde??

[I retract statements previously here. Stop reading... now!]

The charges don't seem to add up either, there was only one 16 year old as far as that article indicates, so why two charges of solicitation?

Also 16 is a reasonable age of consent.

Barrie, Ontario. First the story about the guy who ran away from home, fell off a tree and died, and now this. Is Barrie full of chronic gamers? Is everyone there in a state of remorse over what happened with that 15 year-old guy and don't interfere at all with game playing? Also, the constant game playing should be taken with a grain of salt, because my mom said that about me when I was only playing about 4-5 hours a day, which is hardly 12.
