Isn't that great. He lies to her and tells her he is 20. She comes down for a fling. Finds out the truth of the matter and leaves and ends up in jail. WTF???

WHOA,WHOA,WHOA,WHOA!!! you only have to be 16 to have sex in Canada? Sum1 quote me if this applies to the rest of the world.
16 in Britain too, though no one seems to care if you have done it sooner.
It's 16 in Indiana, with parents permission. Otherwise 18.
16 In Norway too! Though I didn't care about that.

Okay, that is twice today that the internet has proved to me that it is evil.

I also take offence to that remark about shaving. I'm 14 and I have to shave! Aside from that, I'm glad she was jailed. What the hell were the parents thinking, not following it up? I pretty much agree with Baby Tea here, the kid is an idiot too, but I don't have any sympathy for anyone that stupid as to meet someone from the internet, especially from WoW.
I've met up with a girl I met on World of Warcraft. We're good friends thanks. I've also met a bunch of Escapists. Am I stupid?

I also take offence to the shaving thing. I've been shaving since I was 13.
I've been shaving since I was 11. I was actually given a hard time at school about it for a little while :p.

Anyway, I know that almost every lad from about 12 to about 16 will be grateful for a chance to screw anything, so why the hell did she choose him, why not some other 16 yr old who's less goofy? It must be physical, it can't be his personality, not with an age-gap like that.

Now I have no problem with people having online gaming friends who are much older/younger
I got a nasty surprise myself not long after getting L4D (PC) and i was loving steam (Now I don't have it and i miss it dearly) anyways.
I met a gamer who together with we formed a pretty kick as zombie killing team. We added each other as friends and not long after he got a mic and we had our first chat something along the lines of:

'HI'
'Hello' - Me
'My God your voice is really deep, how old are you?'
'Why how old are you?'
'12, you sound really old'
'Thanks {in deadpan may i add} I'm 20 {now 21}'
'Oh My God!'

Now despite this we still teamed up on L4D and i still chatted to him online, not a lot and mostly Game specific, there were some education related convos if i remember rightly.
Anyway When he asked If I had facebook. I lied and said No.
Which leads to my point.
There is a line don't cross it.

Texas Mom Busted for Soliciting Teen Over WoW

A 42-year-old woman from Texas who flew up to Canada to meet her 16-year-old World of Warcraft [http://www.worldofwarcraft.com] paramour received a nasty surprise when she got home: A quick trip to jail and criminal charges for soliciting a minor.

Our story begins in late December, when 16-year-old Andrew Kane of Barrie, Ontario, asked his parents if they'd drive him to a nearby hotel to meet a 42-year-old woman from Texas who he'd met on the internet. His parents refused, but amazingly didn't seem to feel the need to follow up on the situation. At 2 a.m. the next day, Kane's mother heard the front door open and then discovered that her son had disappeared, a turn of events that came as a surprise to absolutely nobody on the face of the planet except Mrs. Kane and, perhaps, her husband.

Two days later, the young lad was discovered in the company of one Lauri Price, a middle-aged woman from Texas who had met Kane while playing World of Warcraft. The couple were found at a local Future Shop store thanks to a tip from the public. Neither Kane nor Price expressed remorse over the incident, according to Sergeant Robert Allen of the Barrie Police, and because the age of consent in Canada is 16, no charges were laid.

Price hopped on a plane home and that was that - until she landed. It turns out that as part of their investigation, Barrie police had contacted authorities in Texas, where the age of consent is 17 and they apparently don't take too kindly to women in their 40s who chase after boys barely old enough to shave. Price was arrested upon her return to Houston and charged with two counts of online solicitation of a minor and one count of child enticement. She is currently being held in jail, with bail set at $310,000.

As for Kane, it almost sounds like his romantic runaway is the least of his problems: For more than a year he's reportedly spent "every waking hour" on World of Warcraft and his mother said he "rarely" goes to school because he refuses to stop playing the game. His parents took his computer away from him for a month last year but claim that his psychologist recommended they return it to him as a reward. "We thought he was managing it well, but eventually he was back to his old habits," his mother said.

Being a stupid parent, sadly, is not a criminal offense in either Canada or the U.S.

You didn't include the part where his parents were stunned, and he calmly returned to his computer to tell her he wouldn't be coming. It seems on this website that there seems to be a lot of effort spent trying to make parents look bad.

And I must say if the genrder roles where revesed there would be lynch mobs forming.
Indeedie. Quite frankly, its an annoying in-equality.

EDIT: I.e. she should be hated as much as a guy who takes advantage of a 16 year old girl

Errrmmm... it seems kinda wrong that this happened...
Surely the laws for the place that the event happened should be the one that applies?
Seeing as none of it occurred in Texas...
*Yawn*
This is what I thought too.

30 years ago, adults could go after 16 year olds in America and no one really cared (and the age of consent in most American states is still 16, some are 17 and the minority are 18). Now, even in states where consent is 16, people have developed such extreme social mores that you are bound ostracized (in the 16 states) or jailed and ostracized (if in the 17 and 18 states) if you are an older person who goes after a 16 year old. It's just sorta how the culture works now.

OT:

I think she should of stayed in Canada. She should have realized that when she came back she would be arrested.

England too. Some places are only 13. I forget where... Holland?
I has a map. [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Age_of_Consent.png]

16 in Holland, 13 in Japan and a few other places. No laws at all in Saudi Arabia or Oman.

...Consent is consent. Technically, it's 17 in Texas, or 16 with parental approval. Christ, shouldn't the Dad have approved? His son got himself some action, and stopped playing a computer game to do so. I can't think of a dad who wouldn't approve for his son.

And this proof that no matter how geeky-in-the-wrong-way you are, you can still score.
