This announcement has brought out some of the most annoying whiners ever.

And they're not the ones you'd expect.

"Oh look, all the fanboys are mad because they are afraid of change! They're so immature! I didn't like DMC anyway!"

Every time I see an argument like this I get quite aggravated.

I mean, here we have a game series of 4 games in which only 2 of them are held in high regard. The second in the series is mostly ignored by people, and 4 was a huge disappointment for many because of the switch in Protagonist. People really wanted to see a new generation Devil May Cry game featuring the Dante they all know and love.

Then comes this reboot. The art-style is completely different from what DMC fans have come to expect, as it is now more dystopian future than a gothic setting, and Dante looks, sounds, and seemingly acts nothing like he used to.

I get it, not everyone thinks this reboot is a bad idea, and are intrigued, but they need to understand that to a lot of us, we still want a great DMC game on the new generation more similar to DMC 3 or 1 before we move on to a reboot. The series hasn't been given the proper goodbye it deserves. I mean for christ sake, continuity wise the series ends with a cliffhanger. Is it so hard to understand that people don't want change until the original series has been given a satisfying conclusion?

So please, stop calling people opposed to this "fanboys", or say that they are afraid of change, because it's not true. Some people might be overly dramatic about this, but that's no reason to insult them.
a voice of reason that a nice change. i just think he's ugly now, they could have done a better job designing him
You've seen one short trailer, how can you possibly determine any of that?

Any saying DmC ends with a cliffhanger is impying the series has a story, which may be a bit of an overstatement.

Fuck the fanboys.

DMC was rather stale, props to Ninja Theory for going 180 on it's ass.

Tank god. I thought I was the only one. I've seen a few threads on this. And everyone's acting like someone just knee capped Kermit the frog.

I personally like it. They tried sticking to the formula for 4. And it was shite. This re-boot might give it some life.

Plus Dante's look actually makes sense. It's set before Dante went all white haired and demonic. Back when he was a punk *****.

It fits.
Also thisss~

The setting seemed a bit futuristic compared to the other DMC's perhaps its one in the future and you play as Dante's son?? just cuz hes name is the same doesnt mean its the same person

This reboot physically hurts me.....ow?!

People are entitled to their opinions but for those that think that this will be good should really double check that statement.

They really should have let the franchise die peacefully once the creator left capcom

So far this just looks bad, they've gone and taken a character that most people liked and altered him to fit what will sell with the teenybopper market i.e chain smoking, brooding, generic, bad ass.

However, I haven't seen any gameplay trailers yet so I'm reserving my judgement. It might redeem itself if the game actually looks fun to play.

The whole gritty reboot thing seems like a bad idea from a business perspective too. They're attaching the DMC name to their action title in an attempt to appeal to fan boys, yet the fan boys aren't going to buy the game because they've dicked around with the character too much. It would've made more sense to change the name of the character and just make it a DMC clone instead.

We already raged in other places. And now, 3 threads later, it still doesn't look any better.

The art style and character designs and setting reminds me of Phantom Dust (an original Xbox game about Dust enveloping the world forcing people underground, but granting certain people the ability to use skills from the dust). It plays like a live action card game without cards, if you're curious. xD
Obviously DMC is more realistic, but something about it just makes me think of Phantom Dust.

tbh i dont like the new look but thats just my opinion...

what i do like though is that where going 2 get some character development on dante
3 was full of it, 4 had jack and felt like "a dmc" rather then something that fitted well into the sage, simler to devil may cry 2. so yeah, crap skin, but awsome idea.

Aye, I certainly see the resemblance to the game with the main character and Dante in this both seeming rather... scrawny/gaunt. I personally loved that game, but the main character looked like he got nailed with the entire trunk of the Ugly tree.
That's exactly how I feel.
I wanted so badly to just put a bag over his head (I wouldn't have minded not having to see Edgar either). It's a shame too, as most of the other characters were well done (especially the female characters).

I'm going to poke you with a stick, put on my annoying voice, and tell you DMC2 was my favourite.

Customisable devil trigger. Amazing scenery. Amazing enemy and boss design. Dual campaigns? Hell to the yes.

At that start of that trailer, I had a startling revelation...Dante is...Jack Bauer. I really hope that getting tortured won't be a repeated affair.

I want to be interested in the game just for the spine/snake-sword, but this younger Dante is slightly too androgynous for comfort. Even if the progress of the game eventually gets him back to his old white-haired self, I can see it being a let down as you'll probably only be a badass at the end.

:\ I'll probably get it if reviews don't tear it apart...

As a fan of DMC, this presents no problems to me.

As long as Dante is sufficiently badass to live up to the previous, I can ignore the new look.

Who cares. "Oh boo hoo they are remaking a 4 game series which only half of them were any good! Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q_Q" That is all I am hearing from the fans. Face it, the series was getting stale, it needed rebooting. Much like RE needs a reboot :/
Theres a difference between needing a reboot and moving on to a new IP.
When it comes to both of those IPs, I think it would be better to just leave them behind if you can't push them any further.

Very true, however they have a great "universe" they can use. Why not retry with a reboot? I would only move onto a new IP if the "universe" they use is absolutely destroyed or has nothing left to gain from another game. Mind you I am just talking about the DMC universe and the RE universe either needs some great story and gameplay or to just die and move onto a new cash cow.
I would argue that the universe created and the characters there-within are much too interconnected to truly separate. Devil May Cry, for instance, feels more like a world built specifically for Dante than anything else. If they can't have THE Dante going about his world, just make a new game about a new devil hunter with a new story and a new world.

Resident Evil... well if Resident Evil tried a one-shot story-line like with RE4 (at least it felt that way) that could work, if they didn't try to tie it into anything. Otherwise I'd just say make a new game about zombies.

If this is a prequel I won't mind at all. I think it be cool to see more of Dante's younger days. But if it's a complete reboot and they have no plans of ever looking back to the other games I'll be disappointed. I won't cry if they don't. I mean it is there game, they can do what ever they want with it. But I would much prefer they at least try.

The idea of a remake doesn't phase me. A bad remake, on the other hand, irritates me. Dante actually had character development and depth (best seen in DMC1 & 3). But this? Let's take a look: Graffiti-style title indicative of rebellious youth further reinforced by chain smoking. The fact that he's in an institution for deviants indicates he IS a rebellious youth or the setting is a dystopia. His appearance also screams "disregard for the norm." And let's not forget the industrial rock soundtrack now replaced by a pseudo Riot Grrl sound. This re-imagining of Dante looks like a complete punk and an angsty teen. Wonderful...
