Great Urethra Battler Miku reference, most people just think it's yet another pseudo-pornographic game where a magical girl battles urethra, but it is in fact a grand deconstruction of the various orifice-based first-person RPGs. Grey seems like the kind to get such things.

And uh something something opinions about cancer game.

If you sell a 2 hour, serious game $15 it has room for jokes. If you actually wanted to send a message you wouldn't be trying to charge that much for it. I do not approve of making a profit off of stuff like this. I had the same issue with The Beginner's Guide. What he did was essentially sell somebody else's work and extreme pain to tell a message.

I'm all for games like these existing - in fact I love these kinds of games. I just don't think you should be charging so much for them, especially when they are more often than not on-rails or visual novels. It gives me the impression you are trying to make a profit from the horrible turn of events instead of trying to share your story.
There's nothing wrong with making a profit from sharing your story. Also The Beginner's Guide is fictional.
I agree there's nothing wrong with making a profit from a story, but when you consider how much is being charged for the amount and type of content we are getting it feels like they want more than to share their story. They are charging the same amount, and in this specific case more, than the expected price set by a large studio that invests an extraordinarily large amount of resources into the game. We are getting less content, the production values are lower, the graphical fidelity is lower, the number of developers is lower, the audio quality is lower, and I'm willing to bet the amount of time that goes into these games are lower as well.

Now we are left with a scenario - all of this stuff is lower, but the expected number of purchases is lower. Does the story make up for the lower amount of everything mentioned before? This is subjective, and I strongly believe it doesn't. When I take into consideration that the creator wanted to tell a story and not make a profit, the game could have been made cheap with the same effect and sold for around $7-$10 USD, yet the two hour game is being sold for $15 USD.

The bottom line of how I feel is that the production value and amount of content of this product is significantly lower than most other games on the market at this price point, and I feel like these people are using "but it's a real sad story" as an excuse to cover for it. I don't buy that, and that is why I feel like something is amiss and feel like they are overcharging.

As for The Beginner's Guide being fictional, there is no evidence on that. There are only rumors and theories. There is nothing to say that this isn't the case, but given there is no good evidence from either side I am more inclined to believe what came straight out of the game.

Thanks Obama, why didn't you just hire Cory to kill cancer a few years ago like a normal thinking person?
Because everybody knows that to kill a cancer, you have to shoot it [https://youtu.be/40mHUw9DV4A?t=11m9s].
I thought to kill the Giant enemy Cancer, you had to flip it over, and attack it's weak point for Malignant damage?

That's the neat thing about the game...there's numerous interpretations of it and Wreden hasn't confirmed or denied any of them, meaning he's refused to address the issue as to whether or not the game is indeed comprised of "stolen" bits of someone else's work. So you are indeed free to assume that it's just that: someone profiting from someone else's work. You did, however, concede that no side has any solid evidence to support its claim.

Just keep that little tid-bit in mind before you confidently assert that your interpretation - that the game is essentially stolen material - is the correct one.

I think if the guy is willing to make a game about the death of his child, there's space for a joke. Unless there is no original joke and this comic is a metajoke.
Grey said "Fun fact: I actually wrote three jokes on the subject, but none of them were really good enough to warrant how edgy the strip would be." on twitter.

So feels like they went with the meta joke since it was the best they had.
considering the game itself and what it means to the creator, Grey would've had to be the next Chappelle to make the joke work
anything less than that would've made this into a new Loss.jpg

This comic confirms that Grey is cancer. So Grey is to blame for our recent high-profile losses (viz., Lemmy, David Bowie and Alan Rickman).

However, Cory has now killed Greycancer - so 2016 should start to look up, right?
Don't forget one of the blue man group [http://lasvegassun.com/blogs/kats-report/2016/jan/12/life-of-longtime-blue-man-group-musician-jason-mac/] as well as Brad Fuller! [http://www.develop-online.net/news/tetris-and-donkey-kong-composer-brad-fuller-passes-away/0215229]
Dammit Grey, if only we'd taken you out sooner! There's always that one last-minute heroic loss before the credits!
Also I never heard about this game til now. Kinda reminds me of how one of the FF7 writers supposedly modeled Aeris and her death after his mom's recent passing. (Think that was in an old EGM)
I'm sure he's positively happy with the unending flood of porn!

There is a recent indie game called That Dragon, Cancer. It's an art game about a toddler with cancer, and it's inspired from the life and death of the co-creator's child. Suffice to say, those who find the game touching, have found dirty jokes about the game way more distasteful than usual.
GOAT MOM IS NOT FOR LEWDS

"What about the k-"
THAT'S NOT EVEN LEGAL!!!

I kind of wish mugen fans would ascend and that it was easier to cross major IPs over from competing companies.
My favourite 4th wall gag was that both Hsien-ko and Mousse have mugen versions where things they can throw include any sprites in the game's memory, including other characters.
If the RNG blesses you, then you can see them attack each other with their opposite's palette swaps! I wish I could read enough spanish to find that again...

A couple who lost their son to cancer made a game about how it affected them, and what they went through.

Gamers decided to prove every negative stereotype about Gamers true in protest at the game existing.
Only that the developer himselfe said on twitter that he didnt receive any harassment and that all the "negativity" seems to stem from the steam forums... wich arent any better then youtube comments in my opinion

So the moral is as long as you devolve half of your profits to charity, you can make anything you want, huh?

I can't wait for someone to publish a game called "Gamergate simulator" and send a percentage of the profits to a campaign against gender violence.

It's advertised as being two hours and says that it will explore faith, so I don't see why anyone is surprised at the length of the game or that it gets religious in there.

And considering the parents of the child were fully involved in writing and creating the game (Ryan Green, the father, is the game developer and did some of the cg art for the game), I don't see how you can accuse them of cashing in on their own tragedy.

And don't be hyperbolic. The game sells for $15. If you paid $20, you were ripped off.
Faith: makes you thank your child's murderer for killing him in a long and inhumane agony, so you can be worthy of His love later. Greatest mind-trick ever.

About the price:20 bucks is too high.
But that's the price of a book. And nobody is forcing you to buy. So why so serious?

The first comment page isn't even over before the shitstorm begins.

On an unrelated note, that game was hilarious.

EDIT:And why am I only the second commenter to mention Urethra Battler Miku? Those little jokes are half the reason most people read this.

So, uh, tip #1: If it costs too much, don't buy it.

And on The Beginner's Guide, do you have any particular reason to believe that 'Coda' was a real person whose games were plagiarised and released by Davey or whatever his name was, and that 'Davey' voiced his feelings and had a legitimate nervous attack during the creation of the game and just happened to leave it in?
I mean, credit to the guy, it was some pretty sound acting. I was well into it. But it's fictional.

MUGEN can be frustrating like that. There's a huge chance that whoever made that edit had their site shutdown either for legal reasons or just because it expired.

You are aware that gamergate has done more for different charities then the ones denouncing them right? So all thats left to do is making the actual game, cause you know.. the actuall donation part has allready happened... not least to mention actually getting a game made (afterlife empire i think was the name?)

You do, of course, realize that ever since it began Gamergate was not one definite thing, right? Is it about integrity in games journalism? Is it about sexism? Zoe Quinn's sex life? Her developer skills or lack thereof? Nobody knows what it's all about because it's not about something in particular, that's why people hate it.

I missed the part where someone actually died who was related to the Hatred died and people were making it personal by going after that.

Hatred was 2edgy4u and trying to gather attention for the sake of stirring up controversy. This was about people making a game about the death of their son. Forgive me if I don't find the two situations very comparable.
