New Zealand Story.

A platform game about a bow-wielding (I think) kiwi-bird trying to rescue its kiwi-bird brethren from a Walrus(possibly flying, maybe a whale).
I swear, the game had an infinite amount of levels

The Getaway. I was really good at games even as a child, but The Getaway was always a thorn in my side. A really big one that was really annoying.

Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire.

I made it to the third challenge, building a flying machine and flying somewhere with it (I forgot where), I must've been 13 or so when I played it first. Well, guess what? A few years ago, I reinstalled the game on my Win XP machine and I did it! I played happily all the way from beginning to end just to find out that the video uses a video compression that XP doesn't even know any more. I could do without those two rendered videos but FUCK the second one is played right before the end boss, and the game always crashed at that point.

There IS a patch for this (fan-made, I think), but as I own the localized version and not the original English one... it didn't work for me. Made me fucking download the English version and continue my savegame on that to finally beat this. So it took me almost a decade to beat that. Worth it, imho.

I could never beat this damn game. I always got hung up on level 5, in the hallway right before the Grim Reaper.

Rugrats: Time Travelers for the GBC. I got that game when I was like seven, and I STILL can't beat the first level. You're in a mine, trying to find a coin, and then go to an unspecified area. The thing is, it's like a giant maze, and doesn't tell you AT ALL where to go. Oh, and there's a time limit. And enemies, which knock you back, and take the coins (not the big coin, there are smaller coins as well) you've collected, and you have no way to fight back. And there's no minimap, to add insult to injury.

That game was made for kids? Really?

Paper Mario.
It wasn't even all that hard, I just couldn't understand that the attack that cost the most Flower Points to use wasn't the best to use.

Contra. I was young so I couldn't even finish the first level, except maybe 1 time.

I could never finish Streets of Rage. I was young back then. I've not gone back yet.

It took me a long time to finish the original Homeworld. I completed Cataclysm and Homeworld 2 before I managed the first game. I kept getting stuck on a particular mission that I couldn't beat! I've completed it now however :), Totally worth the wait!

This game kept me busy for a very long time on the Master System, and I never did get very far with it. I can barely remember it now but I think I still loved it! =D
Holy shit, that brings back painful memories. I remember you had to get a rope and tie it around the crocodile's mouth. I was about 4 or 5 then, and my timing sucked ass, I'd always jump too early or too late, and land on the crocodile when his mouth was open and die. I had the Amiga500 version, graphics were awesome. Jumping into candles killed you by turning you into a fried egg, just epic.

I also had trouble with treasure island dizzy, and magicland dizzy was a helluva long game, wish I had access to walkthroughs back then. Thought I did have the pleasure of watching my 11 year old friend beat these games.
