That one mistake...

I remember one post I saw in the WoW forums that absolutely baffled me. It was a relatively long post that turned out to be a veritable wall of text with no separation of paragraphs and inexplicably consistent failures to spell simple 4-letter words correctly. What puzzled me, though, was the fact that it contained exactly (I counted, and yes, I still remember after more than three years) 117 ellipses (that being this ==> ...) and yet not a single period or comma.

So for example... he would type like this... replacing all forms of punctuation with ellipses... which does not convey the end of a sentence the way a period does... nor does it connect ideas in the same sentence in the way of a comma... it simply indicates a pause in speech... and even the last part of the guy's confused ramblings ended with an ellipses...

The whole "text shorthand" irritates me to no end. It's just lazy and overall uncultured. I never used it in my text messages and I sure as hell won't use it anywhere else.

But that one thing: it is ridiculous how many people misspell Kaidan's name from Mass Effect as "Kaiden". Seriously, if you know of the character it's very likely you have played one of the games, therefore you must have also seen the correct spelling (more than once). There is no excuse for this kind of mistake.

I don't like people spreading false information. This is the information age! You can fact check almost anything in a matter of seconds! I get that it's easy to become a broken telephone when not copy-pasting everything you say or write, but making sure you're not bullshitting people is something I dearly recommend.

People who eliminate "to be".

The porch does not "needs swept". It needs to be swept, or more informally, it needs sweeping. Keep your tenses in order, dammit!

It drives absolutely insane when people say "on accident", as in "I did that on accident".

No. No you did not. You did that BY accident. What the hell does ON accident even mean?!

Amazing, really, that one little thing really bugs me so much.

Pronouncing valedictorian as val-eh-VIC-torian (notice the vee sound in third syllable).

How the hell do you screw that up past the age of twelve?

"Evolution is just a theory" Yeah, so is gravity and if you say "It is not the theory of gravity it is the law of gravity not theory" I have the paradoxical feeling of having both more and less respect for you because it means 1) you know the law of gravity is part of gravitational theory but as you are a **** you ignore that and say such idiocy thinking i can not see through it or 2) you legitimately think that is an explanation as if things graduate from theory to law in which case I will ask you to go beat the person that told you that until they pass out as they are a total moron and lying bastard.

I don't like it when people misspell words because they think that somehow adds to the humor. I can't think of an example, as I'm not an idiot and my brain doesn't function that way. And I especially hate it when people start spelling initialisms or acronyms phonetically, such as "Lawl" when they mean "LOL."

AND I REALLY FUCKING HATE WHEN PEOPLE ACTUALLY SAY "LAWL" TO ME, WITH THEIR ACTUAL FUCKING VOICE. I hate it so much it makes me type in all caps.
You know I have to ask does this mean even in the case of a story? Like say this cop pulled me over and asked what was in the trunk and I say "a pizza and orange juice" and he screams "DO NOT GET SMART WITH ME ************!" and I was all "lawl okay" Rather than and then i laughed and said "okay" or is is just if you replace laughter with "LOL" or "Lawl"

Polygamy is no longer a thing in mormonism. Actually, it's been not a thing for some 200 years or so.
The LDS church was founded less than 200 years ago. I am fairly sure that the practice of polygamy was cancelled later than that.

OT: "Welp". If you start a sentence with that non-word, I will not read what you have written.

the one mistake that always gets me (I wouldn't say irritates me, just.. I notice it each time and it makes me laugh) is when people misuse the word "Sojourn" to mean the same thing as "Journey"

people will talk about taking a sojourn to some destination. in truth, if you're going to the bahamas, and you had an hour wait in the airport as they washed bugs off the windshield, you had a sojourn at the airport, not the bahamas.

and everyone makes that mistake. I've seen Sojourn used correctly a handful of times of the multitude it's been used. People just tryna be fancy I guess.

Mine is when my mom uses Anti-Social when she means introverted. Anti-Social is more like a serious criminal than a person who prefers to spend quiet nights by themselves.

OT: Mine's dutch, and I do correct people on it, even my boss. It's people that say 'enigste' instead of 'enige'.
Ben ik toch niet de "enigste" nederlandstalige hier... ;)

I am not that easily annoyed, but using expressions wrong is something that annoys me quite a bit. When I'm having dinner with my family, I often correct my parents or sister on the wrong use of an expression which has resulted in many heated arguments.

Not listening to me when you should be. It ends up with me upset and you failing. Yes, I'm an ass but I'm usually right.

Hello, America! Did you know that 'Antarctica' is pronounced 'Ann-Tarc-Ticka' and not 'Ann-Are-Ticka' like how you pronounce it where you seem to be missing two whole letters that the rest of the world recognises? Because I've yet to hear a single one of you pronounce it correctly!

And then just general spelling errors and grammar mistakes.

I hate when strangers screw up my last name. Always annoying when they try to convince you that it would just be easier to shorten it. My last name is easy to spell, don't shorten it you lazy mother fucker. I have been screwed over so many time because a certain company will look up my last name by taking one word out of it.

The thing that annoys me is that my English teacher uses "I could care less." I couldn't care less if someone else does, but my ENGLISH TEACHER. Oh, and when people say Intensive purposes, ATM machine, you loose (lose), or mispronounce Awry, And OH GOD Colonel. When people pronounce it Kol ol nel instead of kernel, I die inside

Or when people say "Irregardless" which is technically not even a word. Or when people pronounce 'Voluptuous" as "Volumptuous". There's no M!

After my time on the EU West (Read: Best) League server, these people drive me insane.

"OMG SURR @ 20 WE LOOSE THIS GAME. FEED MID LOOSE US THIS GAME"

Fuck that. No.No.No, these people need to be rounded up and removed from the server until they understand language.
Sharing that pain errday.

What annoys me about language EUW is when people who don't speak any English whatsoever try and use acronyms. Or make sentences out of them. (its better now but it was pretty bad)

OT: League-related I'm afraid, but no less annoying.
"YAAY WE TANKS WILL GO KILL CHASING LEAVING THE SQUISHY AP AND ADC UNDEFENDED THEN COMPLAIN WHEN WE LOSE"
or
"IF WE ALL BUILD DAMAGE WE WONT NEED A TANK"
Why can no-one remember this is a team game

MiskWisk don't like incorrect language
oh come on, i could care less about incorrect use of these grammar and spelling stuff, their are worse things then that ;-)

nah, just kidding; in German there are quite a few classics (and even way more less common mistakes)
in general i don't care that much about them, but when my super-oh-so-smart-my-grades-were-so-much-better-than-yours-and-so-am-i fellow students, who basically got the best marks in every single effing class, rape their OWN language... i could just grab the next scalpel and study anatomy on the LIVING thing
before being a smartass one should make sure that one actually IS smarter (at least in the particular field)

yeah, so: language
also: bad manners - from loudly munching nachos at the theatre to focusing on smartphone instead of the people you originally wanted to hang out with, from sitting down before the women do to not having the slightest idea how to use knife and fork
all depending on the occasion of course ^^
so maybe "unfitting" is a better choice of words than "bad"

and blind brand loyalty, especially combined with fanboy/girlism - "blabla my IPHONE blabla, shoopdawoop my MACBOOK somethingsomething" - you meant your smartphone and your laptop, right?

Jaywalking. I just get so pissed every time I see somebody do it. Especially when they always wind up doing it within a couple seconds of a marked cross walk. It's not that I'm mad at them for obstructing traffic or getting in my way, I just don't think people should endanger their lives so pointlessly.
