Why not come up with some backstory that explains FORCE FIELD UNDERWEAR! Great excuse to have characters run around in their undies showing off as much skin as possible :)

As someone pointed out before, they did this to a guy in Sands of Time and nobody complained. Didn't offend me then. Won't offend me now.
Fan service works both ways after all...

Oh square, you crazy liars. I mean if they said "oh yeah, this is just for you know, the skin and all that", would anyone really mind?

This is just pretty silly, dressing it up like it's not for sex appeal...

Wasn't the same "exact" thing also a feature in the Wolverine: Origins? Why isn't anyone making a fuzz about a jackmanesque wolvie's clothes being ripped to shred?

Wait, Aya looks underage even though she's like 35? Nevermind...

lest she starts with clothes, i mean if you watch anime or read manga or play jrpgs or just some games in general you might be excused if you were living in a cave somewhere where you think a string bikini and thong are perfectly functional battle attire, capable of warding off blades bullets explosives zombies and alien hordes.

would be interesting to see if you played the game really well if her clothes held up, and how many people would play badly to get to see some skin if so.

or is this game like batman AA where your costume got messed up no matter how perfect you were at some points of the game.

i would like to see games base costume damage on your play not many games have done it period, and thought that was a awsome feature of batman AA but sadly it was entirely scripted.

The level of sexualization that goes into Japanese games these days is nothing short of sorrowful. I'll admit that I'm the first one to tell people "STFU" when they hate a game/show/movie based on prudeness (my favorite TV show is Spartacus), but the opposite extreme of playing a game solely for these reasons is nearly as bad. So many japanese games these days literally have NO other selling points.

I remember a time when games were about GAMEPLAY and out-of-place sexualization was the domain of hentai artists. Everyone seemed fine with this arrangement. What the hell happened?

It's like a conversation between them and the internet:

SE: Here you go, parasite eve the 3rd brithday all ready to release on PSP complete with clothes-ripping features.

Internet: Yay! Porn!

SE: No! It's just realist-

Internet: Porn! Rule 34 says so! Pronz!

SE: What do you mean!?

Internet: Porn, Porn, Porn, Porn, (chanting in the tune of the monty python spam song)

OT: The fact they feel the need to address it where many other games with supposedly "rule 34" aspects haven't makes me feel somewhat sceptical...

I don't think anyone waiting for this game needed help to see her in a sexy light, just look at the way she walks in the first two games (and the shower scene in 2 might help).

Well then why isn't she wearing armor? If you're going to fight something that is going to directly attack your body (and thus rip your cloths) why not wear some body armor to prevent, you know, your flesh from being torn. I mean its not as if these attack will glace off the skin, they should do major damage to her body if they are tearing her cloths. If its just wear and tear then why isn't she wearing something more durable? Do these people just manufacture cheap easily destroyed cloths or something? This doesn't make any sense as an actual reason. If you're going to B.S. your way out of trying to show some skin come up with a good reason.
To be fair, at this stage, Aya's basically a walking Cosmic Horror... not as overt as Alex Mercer in that regard, but still. She's essentially the good guy equivalent of Eve from the first game. 'Serious damage' at this stage would need to be VERY serious for her body not to just shrug it off. And if you don't NEED to wear heavy restrictive armor when fighting evil, why bother? Well, other than the aformentioned serious wrecking of your clothing by mitochondrial horrors.

Interestingly, Alex was technically naked because his cloths were just parts of his body morphed to look like cloths. Huh...

Totally agree. You might as well have her say, "Killing people makes me so...warm...I feel the need to slip out of my Kevlar vest and into something...more comfortable..." Or maybe it's supposed to be an exceptionally clever form of camouflage: "Oooh! Hot chick! Ow!"
