Rhino is now a guy in a robot suit? Why cant they just either have him in a suit like Thing in Fantastic Four or as CGI like Lizard in the last movie.

This, and Days of Future Past, seem to be taking the lessons of Avengers the wrong way (people like characters? Throw in MORE characters! All the characters! Heroes! Villains! ONE of them has to make fans happy!), yet the runtime of a movie will mean that almost none of them will get even 5% of the character development that, say, Doc Ock had or Loki has.

I find it interesting that, post-Avengers, Marvel didn't go "bigger". It actually went "smaller", with Thor's movie retreating to his key character arc with friends and family. Iron Man 3 focused on Tony's personal flaws and immediate friends (... and the President at the end, for some reason). Even "The Wolverine", by Fox, was MUCH better by literally stripping out almost every unnecessary character and mutant and making it a character-driven film that was smaller and more intimate as a result.

This looks... like overkill. Like Spider-man 3, too much is going on and SOMETHING has to be compromised to get it out the door. You can't split your focus up so many different directions and keep the core of it running strong.

Or they could NOT go the way of SM3 and realize they can have a villain without a dramatic backstory.
Really, the problem in that movie with "too many villains" was because they had an arc for every single one of them. Here we can have Rhino be your regular criminal with a quirk, and then he get's a supersuit. Harry likely won't get his revenge sub-plot, so that makes his character introduction way shorter.
Then we have the "not actually main villain" with Electro, who can have an arc. And the fact that now all the villains will have their existence connected to a main source (Oscorp), that makes things even easier to sort out and organize.

I didn't expect this trailer to be any good. In fact, it's just as terrible as I'd predicted. I hated the first movie so much I couldn't even sit and watch the whole thing. It was the first time in my life that I walked out of a theater halfway through the movie.

Wow this looks like a clusterfuck. They're just throwing in villains left and right. Wasn't that one of the reasons why Spider-Man 3 was fairly awful?
One of them, yes. Also, it was a slapdash job because the studio kept demanding rewrites well into halfway through the production time.
If they put in a terrible amnesia subplot (is there any other kind) it'll have Spider-Man 3 beat.
It's not really that easy. People remember the bad parts more clearly, but they forget that Spider-Man 3 was half a decent movie with a few really memorable moments (birth of the Sandman still stands out as one of the most excellent uses of CGI in recent memory). It wouldn't be super hard to do better than Spider-Man 3, but it'll still take more effort than these clowns look like they're putting in.

Yeah...parts of it look more video-game like.

I'm going to agree with people who say Mecha-Rhino looks ridiculous. I also hate how Oscorp is the center of every bad thing that's happening to New York City...It seems completely inorganic and as though the writers don't care about the origins of other villains. Then again...I think the same thing happened with The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon...still kinda bugged me.

Anyway: I'm calling it now, Amazing Spider-Man 3 will be Rise of the Sinister Six. If they're going to bring about this kind of a cluster-fuck with villains then I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming Sinister Six will go more into detail with the villains themselves.

One more thing...Harry Osborn is Emo Peter Parker...Why?!

Because this Rhino is based on the Ultimate Marvel Rhino ( http://marvel.wikia.com/Alexander_O%27Hirn_(Earth-1610) )
Thanks for that, suit looks good in that link. Still prefer if he was humanoid Rhino hybrid. :) But then again, will have to wait till they show the full suit.

We had the parasite possessed emo Peter Parker dancing and Green goblin mask that looks like it's from Toys 'R' Us and aunt May being forced to finish a prayer, Brock (who as far as I remember is basically a body builder) played by Topher Grace and they made Kirsten Dunst look ugly somehow...oh, and let us not forget Spidey unable to make webbing because he's depressed...WTH!? That was a terrible and boring trilogy.

Personally I thought the reboot was an ok movie, enjoyable and above average for a superhero movie, yet people HATED it. This looks to have a lot more stuff in it and this still is a trailer (in relation to VFX), so we'll see. There's always things some big comic book fans will complain about, but it's been shown that it's much more about what "works" in the story and universe movie tries to create, than it is to comic book origins (which also change rather often).

Sooo... is this a trailer for spiderman, or Batman, or Man of Steel for that matter. Really, it's kind of hard to tell.

Seriously, why are so many studios trying to make super hero movies with the tone of the Dark Knight? Remember the Avengers? Remember Iron Man, and Thor, and Captain America? Remember how those movies were serious but still fun and friendly? Remember how much money they made?

Apparently not.

I've been dreading the release of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer ever since the rumors and the recent triple posters popped up over time. Now my worst fears seem to have been confirmed.

The whole trailer looks so cluttered with multiple villains and that "secrets of the past" plotline dangling about. This is made even worse with the viral marketing that only adds more confusion to the mix. You would think they would learn from the mistakes of past movies and not cram in so much plot into one movie. Oh, wait! I forgot that this is from the same group of idiots that forced Sam Raimi to put in multiple villains in Spider-Man 3 rather than stick with one and make that villain more well-rounded. Now Sony is talking about making spinoffs from Amazing Spider-Man for other characters that are tied to Spider-Man.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/180463-sony-pictures-planning-spider-man-spin-offs

Whoa! Easy, big spenders! Lets not put the cart before the horse or, in this case, lets not ram your heads further up your asses. I know you fuckwits want to keep Spider-Man so you won't lose the only cash cow left on your ranch (unless you're planning to trot out the lame horse called Men in Black again). But you're trying to hedge your bets with the same dumb ass logic DC Comics and Warner Brothers are using to bring the DC Universe to life (I.E. toss turds at the wall and see what sticks). If they continue to stay on this course, Sony might as well confess that they're rock stupid when it comes to movie-making decisions, give the property back to Marvel/Disney, and stick to making game consoles for however long they have left.

They ruined the Lizard in the first one, now they are ruining the Rhino. A freaking transformer he is not.

To be totally honest, i had two thoughts while watching this.

First; "damn, and i thought the original peter parker (you know, in that first trilogy) was a whiny lil' *****"

Second; "he also gives off a damn big twilight-shiny-vampire vibe"

Both aren't in favor of the movie.

I love how I could anticipate the reaction this would get on The Escapist. I mean, I love this site, but Jeeesus. Go anywhere else and everyone is just happy about a nice, entertaining super-hero movie, but here? Nothing but negative comments and extreme criticizing.

I, for one, am actually excited for this, it looks like it will be an entertaining film. And I hope the rest of you will like it too. Peace out.

I just want to say that I was not able to watch the first one till the end ( I couldn't believe I was missing Toby Maguire at one point).
Still, I like giving chances to anything, stuff and people in general so I will watch it.
We're so lucky we can enjoy things the things we want in general, some aren't that lucky, you gotta give a chance and not be so negative about everything.

I prefer the old costume, weirdly.

I also don't like this Harry much at this point. The actor doesn't make me think Harry Osbourne, he makes me think Tobey McGuire's sickly brother.

What little we get of Foxx's Electro is decent enough. And...Are they actually gearing for a Sinister Six lineup? Maybe in time for 3, before they need to reboot again?

they were practically beating me over the head with it!

They worked a few of those in, too.

That's like saying one of the reasons it sucks to be shot is the chance of infection. It's definitely an issue, but there are more immediate concerns.

I hate the overall trend that every superhero movie must have multiple villains now, though. A better movie can pull it off. I don't think this can.

To be fair, The Dark Knight Rises had it's fair share of villains, and that was done pretty well.

With all villains seemingly being churned out by Oscorp, it makes things easier to follow, and kinda the reason why the asian guy in the first film wanted Connors to get the cure so badly, imagine what they would be able to do if Norman was well enough. And imagine them giving the other villains that stuff, so they could regenerate etc. (Speculation, but still not bad for me, considering it's nearly 3am)

There will undoubtedly be another trailer soon which will explain more, i'll reserve judgement till then.

Packed with villains? Packed with cringe is more like it. I honestly struggled to watch the trailer.
