I remember seeing The Amazing Spider-Man last year. I had a giant blue raspberry ICEE with me. Man, memories.

I was thoroughly enjoying myself through about half of it, then my ICEE ran out and there was nothing left but cold, black pain. The Amazing Spider-Man was terrible enough that I almost asked for my money back.

At least I had the ICEE.

This doesn't look any better. In fact, it looks worse. I'll probably end up RedBoxing it or something at some point just to say I saw it. I guess the only good decision I can point to is that they seemed to have fixed Spider-Man's outfit.

Nope, I love Giamatti but he doesn't fit the Rhino look or temperament to me. Sorry. And I really dislike this Spider Man from the first one, so I'm actually not going to see it. Not even if I got a free ticket or it gets on Netflix later. They had a good enough trilogy already and went for an unnecessary reboot, hell they already had a good Lizard background going, and even if the last movie wasn't too strong, and I know my view on Venom is not the popular one... I liked Topher Grace as Brock. Just feels like they didn't need to reboot the franchise, and wasted a lot of good will the first two movies garnered... Dafoe as Norman Osborne was great and there was leeway with the whole Goblin thing
He could have regenerated and stayed in the shadows for a bit, even driving his son to becoming the second Goblin

Also I don't think you can outshine the Doc Ock from Spider Man 2, arguably the portrayal I enjoyed most out of the series besides Green Goblin.

Sigh... I'd take a Green Lantern sequel over this. Thats how much faith I don't have in this reboot. Ugh.

Oh, and lets not forget that the Aunt May and Ben Parker from the Raimi series were the best portrayals and the newer versions a shadow of what Raimi gave us. Sorry, but I'll go with the previous trilogy and say no thank you.

I don't have too much of a problem with Mecha-Rhino. I wasn't too familiar with the Ultimates version of the character, but it's an acceptable thing for the movie universe and it keeps us from having every character be a genemod. I like Giamatti, but I'll have to reserve judgement until I see more. The Rhino was never much of a talker anyway.

The Electro design looks good, in my opinion anyway. I keep thinking of a human-shaped plasma globe. I do have a bit of a problem with the lines I've heard him deliver to this point. He's got no passion behind them, no power. I'd like to hear him give us some drive with it. In my mind, that monologue he delivered from the Comi-Con teaser about wanting to find out how powerful he was...we should be seeing a somewhat normal guy who feels he's got the power of Pocket God. There should be some scenery chewing, he should be reveling in his capabilities. Thus far, it feels too dry, too controlled. Maybe there's a character set-up for it, a reason why he's so controlled. Then again, maybe not.

As far as the Goblin, I didn't see enough of him here to make a call. I don't like the look of the guy playing Harry, though. That hair makes me want to get a flamethrower and burn the monster and its hapless human victim to a greasy crisp.

Based solely on what I know about this, I'll probably give it a pass at the main showing and wait 'til it hits my local bargain theater.

I love how I could anticipate the reaction this would get on The Escapist. I mean, I love this site, but Jeeesus. Go anywhere else and everyone is just happy about a nice, entertaining super-hero movie, but here? Nothing but negative comments and extreme criticizing.

I, for one, am actually excited for this, it looks like it will be an entertaining film. And I hope the rest of you will like it too. Peace out.
I like to call it the Moviebob effect. Whenever he hates or criticizes a movie (Amazing Spiderman, Man of Steel, Dark Knight Rises) people here tend to act similarly.

OT: I liked the first one but it wasn't great. Hoping this one is better but I am concerned it will do a Spiderman 3 with character overload.

That I've seemed to notice. I remember when the same thing came from Yahtzee, only now people know he criticizes for the sake of criticizing.

Wait. WTF is Mister Freeze doing in this film? What? THAT'S supposed to be Electro!? Man, fuck you Hollywood! If you are too embarrassed to use characters as they have existed in literally years of the comic series just don't fucking make the film adaptation at all. Oh and someone give the kid who built the Rhino suit out of an erector set a job.

At least he is not Bane with a facehugger covering his mouth.

Wow this looks like a clusterfuck. They're just throwing in villains left and right. Wasn't that one of the reasons why Spider-Man 3 was fairly awful?
No, it was really awful because of:

1.Emo Peter Parker
2.60% of the movie being relationship BS
3.Half-assed/'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'-quality Venom

In no particular order. Remove those things and the movie could have worked, even with three villains.

Except for me apparently, who has learned that usually when bob hates a movie, it's at least worth watching, if not amazing. Following that pattern, when he gives a movie the thumbs up, I usually end up hating it. Me and him clearly have opposite tastes in movies, but at least it's consistent enough that I know his "thumbs down" means I better get my butt to the theater.

Lol, very true... but honestly I can buy that alot easier than I can Decepti-Rhino. I know what folks are saying about it being the ultimate, but it just suuuuuuucks. With Bane, my biggest problem was his speech! It was difficult to understand, and really didnt fit the character.

I think they were going with Ultimate Electro, kinda like how Avengers went with Ultimate Nick Fury.

Also, "The Ultimate Marvel version of Rhino is Alex O'Hirn using a suit of armor known as R.H.I.N.O. that he stole from the U.S. Military"

While I'm not sure of the race of Max Dillon in the Ultimate universe, the writers have been making some characters more diverse; like Nick Fury and Spiderman.

Blech. Not a fan of gimmicks like "The Ultimate" universe. It makes it look like they are out of ideas to me. Or worse have guys working on the books writing for characters they can't identify with so they have to change them into trendy "today's version" characters. Who I might add sadly seem to be hollow and generic as if they just picked ideas out of a hat.

On making Electro black, that doesn't bother me a bit. It's removing the iconic costume and instead making him a CGI self-fellatio fest that annoys me.

And the Rhino. Meh whatever. He's always been a pretty one note character idea so don't really care what they do with him. However if they had to add a super strength villain to the show I would have much preferred someone like Tombstone.

Eeeeeeeegh... I dunno. The first movie was pretty awful, and this trailer doesn't make me feel confident about the sequel. Sure there are lots of fancy effects and that, but... It just doesn't look very spiderman. Just generic super hero noise a guy in it who happens to dress like spiderman.

The CGI looks pretty inconsistent in this trailer. Anyone else noticing that?
I think it's unfinished. At least I hope so. It's kinda like the scenes from the Avengers trailer where people were running and there were some explosions but the Chitauri weren't present.

The first one wasn't so good, this is looking like they immediately went back to the same problems as Spiderman 3 with too many villains. Then again, at least that one was able to develop 2 of them fairly well since Harry had 2 movies prior and Sandman was pretty straightforward and well explained. Venom got shafted, unfortunately.

I don't get it either, the first ASM was one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen, second only to the Avengers and The Dark Knight, and it's existence led to easily the best Spider-Man video game made yet(even better than SM2) so it gets points for that too. It also helps that both were far more faithful to the source material than either medium tends to be.

As for Moviebob, he just whined constantly about things that were nitpicky at best while harping on the movie every chance he got pretty much every video afterward for 2 YEARS STRAIGHT. It was anything but professional and extremely annoying to have him cut into what was otherwise a perfectly good video to complain about ASM YET AGAIN.

I don't know about anybody else, but the original Electro's costume just never felt "menacing" to me, in fact it looked pretty corny. Given a choice between the 2, I'd definitely go with the Ultimate universe version like they are doing, that says "this guy could definitely kick some ass" a lot better than the other one in my opinion.

I didnt even realize that was the Rhino in the trailer to be honest. I get hes supposed to be a different Rhino who took a suit from the military but even still, not raising my hopes up for this movie.

Other then that, the other two things that really irk me on this are the bullet time they're doing with spiderman and the way they made harry osburn like like a total douchebag shit in the same way I always thought garfield made peter look in the first one. I dont know why, I just dont like the way he looks in the role.

but at least it looks like they took the muzzle flare off betters webshooting unless its still there and I just wasnt paying as much attention to it.

EDIT:
Oh, and the electro suit tehy're going for reminds me too much of Dr. Manhattan (and the avatar state, but mostly Dr. Manhattan). I know the original Electro design with he green and gold looks really cheesy, but this electro they're going with just doesnt (to me) separate himself enough to make him look too appealing.

Harry looks emo and Spiderman looks like a video game character for some reason
Honestly, looking at the still image for the video, I thought this was a videogame.

As many have said already, this one does look like it follows the comic-book movie mistake of "Too many villains spoil the plot". In a 2-hour movie with Spider-Man as the centerpiece, it'll be difficult to put enough character development into any of them so that we can give a shit about them. Still, I'll admit I'm one of the few who kinda liked the first one so I'll probably give this a watch. Gives me something to do in the weekend atleast.
