Dropkick Murphy's are known worldwide, being on The Departed soundtrack pushed "Shipping out to Boston" into the mainstream. They played it at the Winter Classic last year, played in Boston.

OT:

Young Heart Attacks - Small band out of Texas, not sure if they are still together. Great old school rock. I managed to catch them playing at the Barfly in Cambridge just before it closed down. There was about 30 people all together hell of a gig. http://www.myspace.com/youngheartattack

NightWish, Gob, Gamma Ray, HammerFall,Edguy, Modest Mouse (two years ago), and maybe Freezepop.

i've heard of every one of those but freezepop and gob. gamma ray is from the 90's, same with hammer fall and edguy. plus, all these bands are pretty mainstream.

My two favorite metal albums would be Ziltoid the Omniscient and Accelerated Evolution, but I love all of them.
