Walkers (British version of Lays) Prawn Cocktail. Yes, its blasphemy to some people.

This. Also dorito's with crazy amounts of cheese, or McCoys salt and vinegar, or kettle chips. I'm hungry now.

The only crisps, chips indeed, I eat are Pringles.
I normally get the Salt and Vinegar ones because I'm the only one in my family who likes them.

I haven't actually had any chips recently, I don't like them much any way, they smell too oily.

I think it's a pure crime that Kettle Chips discontinued their Mango Chilli flavour. They were better than (insert thing that's regularly held up as an example of greatness). Worst thing is, they can't really bring them back 'cos they've already redesignated the packaging colour to some new flavour that I don't care about.

Sad face.

Well to me best CRISPS are Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar co-op crisps.

But best CHIPS i've ever had is from a fish and chip shop near the bus station.

English person here if you didn't figure that out already.
No, I think you hid your disdain rather well really. Sorry for the confusion. Though I do have to ask... people obviously know what I'm talking about, otherwise you wouldn't have put CHIPS and CRISPS in all caps... you wouldn't have even given the two separate answers if you had no idea what I was talking about. You'd have just answered... so my question is, if you know what I am talking about, why give the hard time?
You made no distinction, remember people from all around the world are here, so put something like:

What are your favourite chips;
For the non-Americans we mean crisps.

the meaning of chips changes I believe the meaning of crisp does not?

It's a close fight between Pringle's Sour Cream variety, and Kettle Chip's Sea Salt and Vinegar flavour.

Either that, or Beef flavour Space Raiders because they're horribly cheap.

The best chip is the Phenom X4...

...oh you meant THOSE chips...

In that case, Pringles original.

*snip*

This is a plate of chips.
Sorry, I am afflicted with a terrible ailment... it's called being American.

Sadly everything you know is called something different in my land. Those are actually called French Fries... or, after a little spat, FREEDOM Fries. Sorry for the confusion though.

This sort of device is also called a chip. Therefore, you could have created extra confusion in that circumstance.

But I've been to America, so it isn't like I'm completely ignorant of the differences between the British and American dialects. I do treat the colonial expressions with disdain, though.
That chip would have been wrong to anyone who read the OP though, as I did say "potato chip". I still see how the french fries and potato chips could kind of be mixed up, but anyone would listed a computer chip is just stupid.

I believe listing both the Lay's BBQ and Salt and Vinegar chips stated quite well what I meant, as those are both well known examples of "crisps".
