this is really inspiring, because it's so damn current everywhere! This isn't generalization, its a simple set of anologies describing the simplicity of the human ways of behaving socially. Spot on, Bob.

To be fair, there have been fiction that deconstruct the whole "strong superhero vs smart evil genius" thing and show that the evil genius isn't always that evil & the strong guy isn't always good. For example, Dr. Horrible (well intentioned villain who inevitably triumphs in a pyrric victory vs self-absorbed & sociopathic "hero" who's ironically the one with good PR) & Megamind (evil genius who makes a heel face turn to take down the selfish person he tried to turn into a hero because victory is boring).

Bullies pick on the little guys, the loners most of the time. I was picked on for being in special ed so... Not really a lot of mental superiority there hahaha. But when i got into high school i got a little muscle and my old bullies became somewhat of friends and they picked on the kids with the Anime comics and the rollie backpacks instead. So to me its kinda the opposite, they picked on the physically weaker people. But perhaps the punks were inferior in grades and logic... some even join gangs... and thats nice to think that im gunna out live em haha. Hopefully.

Magneto Was Right

This week, Bob looks at what it's like to be "different."

Watch Video
I don't regularly quote the OP/moviemaker, but this is the second week you used the dinosaurs with lasersuits in your video, and I remember them, but do not know what it's called anymore. I asked last week, but got no reply, so please, settle my uneasy, geeky mind!

And to be honest, I always liked Magneto more than Xavier. Xavier's a boring mindbender. Magneto makes Wolverine float. Xavier lost all feeling in his legs because of an alien (go look it up), Magneto's a WWII survivor. What's the awesomest story?

I could never agree with you more, Bob. And I've always had those same views on nerds. We aren't hated and demonized because we're different, we ARE superior. Then again, I've always kind of looked down upon people who aren't nerds... so I guess that doesn't make me all that much better than those who look down upon us? *Shrug*

On a side note, I don't know why Escapist didn't give you a show like this sooner, you've definitely got some serious words of wisdom going on in this. Seems like Escape to the Movies, while usually always entertaining and true (Minus the Robin Hood review. I liked that movie >.<), was just holding you back.

What's also weird here is that geeks, stereotypically having been bullied by athletic types, are obsessed with comic books.

It's weird because comic books generally feature a strong and athletic hero beating up a geeky evil-genius type of enemy...

Bob's not the first one to pick up on the Objectivist theme's in "The Incredibles" [1]. Apparently quite a few people have detected it.
The day I began reading Ayn Rand I immediately thought of the Incredibles. If I was in any case or circumstance a mutant in the X-world, I only WISH I'd look as good looking as half of the folks and even scoring a pretty young thing too.

wow, bob. it's really starting to show that you don't have that much love for humanity, which is perfectly understandable given what you've been through by the sound of it.

INCIDENTALLY

technically, 'Homo Superior' isn't some kind of mutation (i.e. despite being called Mutant)... it's evolution.
TECHNICALLY evolution IS mutation. that's kinda the idea of the whole story. look up how evolution works... you may be surprised

but coming from a 16 year old who's still in school and generally oppressed for not just trying to know more about stuff but also being a bit of a social anomalie who is not only misunderstood by others but even sometimes has trouble understanding them, i would still be on professor X's side. i think i'm mostly inspired by doctor who's whole "yeah, they can be dicks but they can also be brilliant".
Bullying is specially tough in a society that promotes machismo such as the Mexican society. Mix that with the strictness of moral standards and hypocrisy that very well characterizes the people who live here, a school system that discourages academic achievement, cloudy but easily manipulated social rules, a brain that can process 5 different languages at the same time, and increasing amount of hatred towards said society and you pretty much have the recipe to produce yours truly.

The mass media here only paid attention to the problem since the advent of YouTube and the internet since the acts of bullying could be reproduced worldwide and the good ol' cover-up technique that schools used to hide anything that could tarnish their reputation.

I for one declare that the use of violence is good when strictly necessary. Whenever a problem arised, I warned the teachers that if they didn't do anything I'd take matters within my own hands fists first and weapons second. It woked liked a charm and when it didn't I enjoyed it thoroughly.

If it was if metal was magnetic then yes, if its bully the bully...no. NEXT!

As for which team if I was on Prof Xs I would annoy the hell out of him for using technology, ect as a way to assist mutants deal with their powers rather than being all over stressed unhappy Jedi about it, on the other hand if I was on Magnetos side.... well.... uhg I'd kinda stay out of conflicts and deal with healing/restraining/maintenance ensuring not only that I am happy with my non combat but can fight anyone position but not be tossed from it easily.

I think Magneto would make an incredibly good offer if he asked me if I ever wanted to find the people who bullied me and fuck their shit royally up....

I'd probably cool down after the spate of house burnings (considering my personality, my powers would either be flame based or something equally conducive to wrecking things) and ask Professor Charles Xavier if he could reform me... :p

Plus Wolverine teaches 'art' at the Academy, right?

Brilliant video, Bob.
One of your very finest.

In Australia, it's called Tall Poppy syndrome. Cutting down those who are rising above you simply because that's what they're doing.
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"These oaks are just too greedy,;
We will make them give us light."

Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe and saw.

I think that power wouldn't change my understanding of morality. I would still be on the side of good. If only to mollify my own feelings of superiority. I will work "with" these humans because I am better even than my fellow mutants.

I thought of that two, Like in "Dr. Horrible sing along blog" The way the hero "Captain Hammer," fights the villein "Dr. Horrible" much in the same way a bully picks on a geek. Dr. Horrible's resolve to be evil only grows as he is mistreated by the hero. But even in the end he can't bring himself to kill, yet the hero is!?

Simply the geek wants to be like the star athlete, you know, having the admirers, the respect, and getting the girl, so they imagine themselves as something even better then that.

Me on the other hand would be an oddball super hero, but that's probably because my problems are different from a geeks.

I know why I was picked on in high school. I was new, quiet, and an unknown. I had no respect for arbitrary social order and liked people on a person to person basis, never really belonging to any clique. I was an outlier. And I was smart.
I was teased and bullied for talking clearly and with better diction than my peers, for answering questions easily in class, and because I was a short, easy target (you know, until I shot up to 6'3". suddenly people stop picking on you when your reach is longer than theirs).

I don't know whether I was pushed around because I was different or because I was scary, but it would not have taken much to put me on magneto's side, and I may or may not have pulled some nasty comebacks, fights, and pranks back then to get respected. Being valedictorian was icing on my delicious superiority cake.

Next step is defeating the economy and furthering my education further despite its malefic influence on my life. More college classes away!

umm...question. Would the whole "lets take over the world, I'm on the magneto side" kinda make you the bully then? Wouldn't it mean that your argument applies to them then? Not that I disagree with you because you do have a point, but one always has to take the high road it seems as bullies always take the low one.

there is no reason to act out, if you KNOW your better or KNOW your more powerful, it doesn't mean you HAVE to prove your dominance. If bullies attacked me right now, yes i would defend myself, but i wouldn't go and search them out in a year, if i did, it was because they were hurting someone else or something, not because they did something to me a year or two ago.
The point is that there is no real moral difference between defending your place in a needless hierarchy today or a year from today, if you are aware of what is going on. Getting your head ducked in the toilet every day isn't going to hurt you physically, so why bother being upset about it? Victims of bullies are made to feel like trash, a feeling that doesn't necessarily go away for a long time. Vindication a year (or several) later could actually lead to getting over the trauma. However, for some reason the victims are obliged to forgive the wrongs done to them while the bullies go unpunished. I agree this isn't clear cut, especially considering most bullies undoubtedly grow up and stop behaving like idiots once their hormones level out. But it is horribly unjust to tell all victims that what was done to them was of no consequence and they should seek peace by some other means than that which is natural.

Don't kid your self, if you were bullied the most likely reason you were is because you were different in one way or another.

Bullies might come in shapes and sizes, but their personalities are alike, as well as the people that support or encourage them. People might not want to do it themselves, but they'll certainly laugh(and thus encourage) when someone makes fun of the kid that has a bad sense of humor, or is awkward, or is impressively bad at sports, or just has interests the majority find odd(like comic books or collectible cards).

That is why people don't get made fun of for playing video games anymore. At one point it was an odd activity, only obsessed over by geeks who did not fit anywhere else. Now, however, video games are mainstream and you will see most "jocks" playing CoD or even WoW(i know a couple).

That is also why hobbies like comic books or collectible cars will get you bullied now a days, when a couple of decades ago they were all the rage. They are not the norm anymore.
