I actually agree with this episode. A lot of internet cliche that become hate groups for the stupidest things. For example, the console wars. When you look at it, it doesn't matter who "side" your own, it just makes you look said, and when you actively go out and try to "attack" or "stop" people in the real world, it just makes look pathetic. My favorite example that happened to me. One guy working at a local gamestop refuse to sell me games that where not sony related. He then told me how it was better because of how it was currently out selling the other to console "for that week mind you." and how American products are inferior and how Nintendo doesn't cater to the hardcore, and that you shouldn't support them unless you where a traitor.
I think I was buying armored core 4 for the xbox 360, and super Mario Galaxies for the wii. In ether case, yeah, that is why I hate shopping at gamestop. When ever any non ps3 lover was in there he would continue to harass them, despite being an employee of a store that goal is to sell EVERYTHING IN THE FUCKING STORE.

No Bob ponies should not be excepted from that! One of these days a certain topic on a post forum somewhere is going to look more girlie that a 8 year old dream bedroom. Also imagine, just imagine some one is passing by and saw that girlie thread?! Moderate the ponie stuff.
It's funny, aside from the occasional Kinect or Move or Wii discussion (and that period when the PSN went bottoms-up) there really hasn't been too much of the "console war" in the last year or so. Or at least as far as I know. PC versus console, sure, but those things are actually different in terms other than numbers.
As for the bullying, while I would say that nerds certainly tend to feel above all the non-nerds (because there's totally a difference, for sure) I wouldn't say that it's entirely based in bullying. I never got bullied, really, since I was in the nerd-filled classes since go. But I'm still guilty of the same elitism at times. And yes, I even poke at noobs. Granted, not as much as others, and certainly not as much as some communities *cough*LoL*cough* but when your team in an objective-based game is just full of fraggers, you get a bit peeved.

Great video Bob, keep it up. As for people saying this is all in good fun, it's not. Some of what I hear online is disgusting towards your fellow gamer's and it does go into bullying territory. It get's to the point where most of my friends have to party up just so we don't hear the vile garbage.

Bob, Going into detail is not a bad thing. It gets the point across much better and leads to better discussion value. It's almost like saying "keep all conversations short and concise, and don't ever go in depth about anything."
Plus, sometimes a subject CAN'T be said in a short and concise manner. For a generic example: What provides more to the discussion, a 3 paragraph statement on why I feel PETA is hypocritical, or "PETA are just hyprocrites"? What about times when a person is going through a problem, and they need to tell everyone the whole picture to get advice (IE, saying "My brother is a douche, help" Versus going into detail about WHY he's a jerk, and WHY you can't just kick him to the curb for whatever reason. Which one will allow you to get the better advice?)
Lastly....go do something worthwhile instead? Like what? I already have a circle of close friends I keep in touch with, I have a girlfriend, and I happen to LIKE posting on forums and sharing opinions in a detailed way. Who are you to tell me that I can't have my fun, as long as I'm not hurting anyone?
And on that note, I have almost NEVER agressed anyone online. At least I can't remember doing so, aside from one or two stupid things I said when I first got on the internet forum scene over 5 years ago.

Interesting, interesting. I might disagree with the "long post" thing... but that's just a personal bias of mine. I find discussion to be, in and of itself, a worthwhile thing. Even if it's about something stupid and pointless - lifting weights is "pointless" in abstract, but it exercises useful muscles that can be applied to other tasks, no?MovieBob said:

Good insight as always, Bob. But, I do have a question. If this video was about bullying and such, wouldn't this have been a PERFECT segway into a post-wrap text about PETA screwing with Mario Land 3D about the Tanooki suit?
I remember when you took a shot at PETA about their griping over Cooking Mama. This surprised me, seeing as how they're going after one of your Sacred Cows. I've never let people walk all over me. So I guess I'm not a nerd, I'm just a person who loves video games and movies and spends two-thirds of my life on the internet at 3am.
I disagree with the "it's the internet, so it doesn't mean anything" philosophy. It may have been true once upon a time when only a minority of people used the internet for fun or communication, but it's become so ubiquitous that it's simply unreasonable and unfair to expect people to just put up with mean-spirited or otherwise jerkish behavior.EverythingIncredible said:

I agree with your points, except for the long post one. There's a time and a place for them, sure, but there's always a place for them. If you don't want to read a long post, don't, but some people like to go through an argument in great detail and others like to poke through that big detailed mess and come with counter-points. Why is that "doing it wrong"?
