Rule: Space the name where appropriate.
Which is more legible? Mynameisfrank, My Name Is Frank, Myn Am Isfr Ank.

Rule: If a name you wanted is taken, don't add a 1 to the end. Don't modify it barely so it's acceptable.
If you meet the guy with the original name, it could be awkward. And you could be classed as a poser.

Wrong. 9 is the best letter ever. ^^[/quote]

I've seen someone who had their credit card number as their GT. At least, I assume it was, it was three quadruplet numbers.

Why is X considered the coolest letter anyway?

It's got nothing on D.
This has potential to be the best flame-war ever.

You'd be suprised at how many original and good names exist. To me, if you can't put in the effort to search for a proper name then it's just rude to other players. A slightly cursory complaint, but a complaint it is.

Rule: If it took you less time to think of your name than it does to type it, you lose.
You've been added.

What if, for some absurd reason you have "pH" in your name. It's odd capitalization, but that's the way it's done.

It ain't really a commandment until you've put "thou shall..." at the beginning of each rule but thanks for the pointers anyway. :)

ThreeWords passes all the tests, yes?
And what about TroiMots, my backup name (ThreeWords in French)

I would hate to be suddenly crushed under the new dictatorship...

I have 3 gamertags and I honestly dont think it matters too much cause nobody ever really remembers them.
Mine are Jayhogan18- my main account, I want people to know the name of the person who just fucked them up.
Nova18: No reasoning, I just needed a name fast.
MaowMaowKittyJam: Its for a japanese PSN account and I found it hilariousm probably gonna start using it as a main soon, for laughs.

Does it really matter what someone calls themself online, the only real issue online is your skill level, not what people are shouting down the mic at you.

Do you guys think that I should make more commandments for other parts of gaming?
That'd be good; something along the lines of "The Commandments of How To Act in a Survival Horror" or some such.

Don't butcher the name of a character from some movie or game just because you think he is cool. GTs like Leegolass and MastirCheef make kittens cry and are a disgrace to the actual character.

Now to play devils advocate, sometimes bad gamer tags help convey crucial information to other players. As a case in point, around the release of Guild Wars: Factions, I started noticing that a large percentage of characters were Assassin primaries, named after Naruto characters. I also noticed that these players never helped the group, and always spent the majority of the time at 60% death penalty. At first I assumed that it was because Assassin was a class that was just unbalancingly weak, but a friend of mine made an assassin to a decent effect (A friend whose name is almost always, "IStab____People. Hese least offensive one so far is Carnys). Not only that, but characters that were named after Naruto characters, yet were not Assassins, were not bad. Only when Naruto name and Assassin class met, did it turn into a disaster. Eventually, I had no choice but to leave any group with a Naruto-nammed Assassin. Even worse, when you added extraneous X's to the equation, they always, always, got the entire group killed. And I'm not even prejudiced: I like the Assassin class, and watch Naruto. These terrible names saved me loads of heartache. its almost like an application of Bill Hicks, "Heres your sign" routine

I despise people who feel the need to name their GT after someone famous. Do they want people to think they're them? I'm sick and tired of seeing people named things like WillSmith3664 or ChuckNorris7689.
I think the number rule can be a bit flexible though, as long as the numbers are supposed to be there. For example, for some time I had a username DARKREAPER_13, in which the number at the end is something of a riddle, can anyone figure out why it's there?
13 is the most unlucky number?
Not just that, there's another meaning in it.

A much cleverer one.

I think letting idiots run wild with their retarded screen names is ok. It lets us tell them apart from the normal people.
