Gnosticism already holds that the Old Testament God is Satan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism. The main problem with the theory is the omnipotent creator of the universe can always tweak morality to make whatever he feels like doing morally correct.

But what if, his greatest trick isn't that, but convincing everyone that he's God and the one we now refer to as God doesn't exist at all.
Fanmode ON

In Berserk there exists the Idea of Evil, who is up till now the only divine being shown in the manga.
The Idea of Evil was born out of the collective desire of the people for a reason behind their suffering. As a result, tIoE (which looks like a gargantuan human heart) resides in the deepest recesses of Hell, where it spins the threads of causuality, determening everyones life.
His most important representatives are the God Hand, 5 humans who have become greater demons to serve him. They reside in Hell aswell and mainly give out power to those who have been chosen by Causuality to become Apostles.
The Apostles are humans who became lesser demons and reside in the mortal realm, usualy disguised as vaguely humanoid beings. The only thing 'required' of them to do is "do as their heart demands", which means a whole lot of pillage, murder, canabalism and rape.
Wether or not there is a heaven, or even a more benevolent god is not known, though there are natural spirits.

ADDENDUM: The protagonist Guts, who is the only one with the physical and mental strength to resist, but not overcome Causuality, has been declared to be the Hawk of Darkness (sort of in-universe anti-christ) by the Holy See church. The Holy see prays to a certain god and his 5 angels, which are ofcourse tIoE and the God Hand.(expy of medieval Christianity) Also, the (previously) main character Griffith, who became the fifth member of the God Hand, Femto and has recently been reborn (actually more like respawned) in a new body in the mortal realm is practically treated as the messiah.

Haven't read all Lovecraft's works yet, but I'm working on it.
According to wiki, Cosmicism states that humans are insignificant specks in the universe, whose lack of vision limits their view of the cosmos. The laws of the universe are incomprehensible to humans and yet we try to impose our own values of 'good' and 'evil' on it's indifferent mechanisms.
Apperantly, Dagon and Cthulhu act according to the laws of the cosmos, if wiki is to be believed. (haven't gotten to Call of Cthulhu and Shadow over Innsmouth yet)

I would also like to refer to Yahtzee's last statement in his review of inFamous.

Fanmode OFF

Well, it's an interesting idea, been thinking about it myself some time; but as an atheist, it was more in a hypothetical way about the nature of omnipotent, all-knowing, omnipresent being and it's attitude towards us. I concluded that, if it thinks like a human, it would probably think we are a bunch of petty whiners. Otherwise: Cthulhu.

EDIT: see Berserk

Well, which god are you referring to?

I assume you mean the Christian, but is that the church's? or the bible's?

I'm going to have to say that IMO there is no diety, and if there was he would display characteristics of everything, more of an "ininteligence", because frankly old testament god has some seriously negative quialities, much more akin to the angel Lucifer (aka satan) than to the idea that the catholic church likes to push.

Also, as for the greatest trick thing.. That explains why most of the world sucks ass, because a truley benevolent deity would KNOW in advance that they would eat the fruit, would KNOW IN ADVANCE that lucifer was going to trick them. Nah, what makes more sense is that lucifer kicked a pacifist god out of heaven, then set up a series of reasons to punish man, when god tried to bring the people knowledge he kicked them out and so on.
