The Force Awakens Trailer Gets Wacky "George Lucas" Version

I did not find it terribly clever nor funny to be honest, at least up until the part with all the TIE Fighters because that part actually looked well done. The abruptness made it especially funny.

Lucas' "updates" get a lot of flak, but to be honest I think most of them have been for the better. Namely from this video, the Dewbacks and Sy Snootles (the effects at least, the old song was better though). The Artoo rock thing would have been fine, had they not forgotten to edit in the damn thing in the following shots. The Jabba tail-step thing was lame, but I've always thought it was done well as far as patching up continuity goes.

Also, Greedo shot first.

Edit: The Hayden ghost really made no sense, though. So, what? Anakin magically gets his youth restored while Obi-Wan and Yoda get screwed over? I like how Robot Chicken spoofed that.

This really isn't that funny at all. Its more sad than anything.
It's an artistic choice. How dare you criticise an artist's vision?
I'm not criticizing per say. I just don't find it funny. Maybe its because I'm sick of people taking back handed swipes at Lucas.
'Per se'.

And it's kind of hard not to when he turns the force into ablood infection and portrays Darth Vader (one of the coolest villains anywhere) as having started out as a whiny man-***** with the nickname 'Annie'...

Again two things I think people got way to bent out of shape about. It was hokey but I still never understood why people were so mad about it. I viewed it as not a DNA thing but as a physical conduit that the mystical Force could act through.

As for Darth Vader its mixed. Sure he's really whiny in episode 2 but given The Clone Wars series and episode 3 his backstory is pretty cool. Also what's wrong with "Annie"?

Yeah no. This isn't even in my top 10 most anticipated trailers.
Except it's not about your opinion, it's about the general consensus, the zeitgeist. When you get down to it, we're talking about Star Wars here, a multi-media phenomenon that has been going on for nearly forty years and which is now getting new theatrical films by a new generation of filmmakers. Remember, when the news got out that Lucas sold the franchise to Disney and that we were getting new films the media EXPLODED it was such a surprise. They had to preface nearly every story about it by saying "No, we are not bullshitting here. This is actually happening."

Anyway, it's a fun little rib on Lucas. I can understand him wanting to go nuts with the CG back when he got the chance to use it, but it's generally agreed upon that the more restraint you have the better it turns out to be. After awhile it just gets boring and the audience's eyes glaze over. They cease to be amazed by it when you cram it into every single frame.

Is it wrong to think that the lens flare effect on the red lightsaber actually made it look a little bit cooler?
It kinda worked with the xwings scene as well, which just goes to show like anything lense flares can be good if used correctly and not just plastered everywhere.

Saw this earlier, Jabba's cameo made me laugh the most.

That's much better. I don't get the cave rock hole thing following the droid though.

For those who may have missed it, this is the "Crazy Lens Flare" Edition. Only time will tell which of these two is more accurate.

I was actually genuinely surprised it DIDN'T look like this, but I just assumed he hadn't finished the CGI modifications completely.

Aha! Thank you. I've never been a fan of Star Wars and I really hate these changes they've made. Not one of them did I prefer over the original.

I agree, with the exception of rerecording the Emperor in The Empire Strikes Back. Unnecessary dialogue changes aside, I prefer the newer version of that scene. But the rest of the changes have, at best, been pointless and, at worst, detracted from the films.

In this version I actually liked the stupid cross saber
Actually the cross-saber didn't bother me much because having a guard on a sword is a big advantage, and really I can't see any other way you could make one work.

That said the rolling droid is what got me, I just really hate that thing as it looks silly. When I first saw it, I thought it was a satire.

Are you talking about the part in this video at 4:52?

Yeah, that makes sense, though I feel they added too much light to the newer one there. Nice big shine on his chin. I don't know.

Aye, that one. Now that I look at it, I agree with you that they could have done better on the lighting, the more shadowy look of the old one works more. Otherwise, I think the replacement of the old Emperor with Ian McDiarmid was a smart decision, especially as it now means that the Emperor is portrayed by the same actor in all of his appearances.

I admit: I laughed. Though I still think George Lucas has been geek culture's whipping boy for far too long.
