FF8 and MGS3. In FF8 when Rinoa was in like a coma or whatever I was really sad and I really wanted to break Ultamicia's jaw. And in MGS3 I felt SO bad for the boss.
actualy Ultamicia was Rinoa from the future, its what would happen if Squall couldt save her, and therfore he would die, she would become the sorceress, and use the Griever GF as a rememberence to squall (its modeled after his ring).

sorry i just had a geek-out moment

Bioshock, when it forced you to kill Andrew Ryan.

Come on he was my favorite character even before I knew he wasn't evil and i have to beat him to death with a golf club? Thats just mean.

"A man chooses, a slave obeys!"

Some bits of Call of Duty: World at War.

During the "Ring of Steel" missions for example, after fighting through the asylum and into the street, and the Red Army's theme starts playing, while panzerschreck shells start flying and Soviet tanks and infantry advancing. It was an honestly powerful moment, and the Commissar's exhortation of "Abandon your posts! Abandon your homes! Abandon all hope!" made me want to cheer and yell along with my CG-comrades.

Or the mission that follows immediately after, where after fighting through smoke-filled ruined buildings, and "Dies Irae", from Mozart's version of "Requiem" starts playing as you advance towards the street (for those unfamiliar with the symbolism: "Dies Irae" was the part of the old Latin mass that dealt with the end of the world. The part that begins it goes "Dies irae! Dies illa! Solvet saelcum in flavilla Teste David cum sibylla!" which translates as "Day or wrath! Oh, day of mourning! See fulfilled the prophet's warning, Heaven and Earth in ashes burning!" To the Germans, it was literally the end of the world.)

Or the PBY Black Cats mission, when you had to pull survivors into the plane while keeping PT Boats and Zeroes off them. When you heard those soldiers crying "Please!" or "Help!", and saw them swimming for their lives while Japanese PT Boats and Zeroes merciless gunned them down, at times I had to hold back tears while I returned the favor to the Japanese.

The most emotional game I've ever played, that really got me feeling for the characters and almost in tears at some parts, was without any competition "Lost Odyssey" on the 360.

The World Ends With You.
Somewhat predictable ending, but still.
Neku screaming sent chills up my spine. And I shed a tear for him. :'(

Either Shadow of the Colossus or Ico.

Both had me feeling intense empathy for the hero character, incredible sadness, particularly when each colossus died and incredible joy at the wondrous landscapes presented to me.

I've never loved my PS2 so much.

Shadow of the Colossus easily. The orchestral score and silent beauty of everything mixed with the stunning ending made me feel the most choked up I ever have whilst playing a game.
You guys have very good taste.
You have good taste for saying they have good taste

In GTA 4, I felt genuinely pissed off at Dimitri and sad when the ending involving Roman happened. Also, I found the ending in Eidos Revenant tragic. :(

From my beginnings, Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger were the two games that made me connect with the characters. People that say 'it's a game' are correct, but there's this idea called Immersion; games are desgined quite well when you are sucked into the game and start to really delve into the environment and characters.

Max Payne 2 really ruined my expectations for shooters, as none since have tried that hard to tell a good story. It's a shame too, because it used to be equally about the story and the gameplay. I really do hope that Max Payne 3 follows the series trend.

The latest games that have done well to immerse me into the games are the Persona series (3 and 4), and Valkyria Chronicles. Persona 3 and 4 have some of the most original ideas for stories I've seen in some time. Valkyria Chronicles is slow to start, but by the middle of the game it really starts to draw you in and tug on your heartstrings.

Agreed on HL2 ep 2.

Fallout 3 had its moments... finding the dead family in the sewer pipe :(
As well as that sad broadcast.
Yeah the voice acting was surprisingly good on that transmission... I was so bummed when I finally tracked the location down!
What quest is that? I've not heard of that
It's more just a location with a back story than an actual quest, you go due north from Canturbury Commons for a while and there should be a radio tower somewhere east of the building where the slaves hang out (temple of the union i think that was).

Just triangulate the signal to a nearby sewer opening (as I remember it was a little south of the radio mast) and you'll find yourself a sad little scene.

It was here I vowed to track down and kill every Mutant, Raider, and Ghoul and gut them all personally. THEIR DEATHS WERE NOT IN VEIN!
