Been busy shopping/wrapping/cooking/everything else, and I'm going to my half-brother's soon. If you need to control my character, go right ahead- it's likely I won't be able to post tomorrow either, and not until later in the day on the 26th. Sorry for the hindrance, but I'm sure you understand! :)

Due to the holidays, I know many of your are busy, so I am going to temporarily put us on hiatus until the 26th, so people can relax a little. I'll post an update to the story in a minute, but there is no obligation to continue.

Fredrick

Fredrick soon finds himself in the now empty church. He can see the blood splatter under the giant slab of jade that Paddy left, but other than that, there is no sign of everyone else. The church is not bright, and the only illumination he has is his torch.

Sachiro, Charles, Shaun, and Giorgio

Sachiro absorbs Fredrick's words, and clutching the key, heads down the way Fredrick had come from. "Well...now you've got me curious...besides, I always wanted to know what it was like to REALLY die."

Zala's group

The Saint says nothing, but sits there rocking. She regards the group soberly, and nods. The young nun with you smiles and says, "You must understand, someone as ageless as the Saint no longer needs words to express the grace and wisdom she maintains."

Njord

The person on the other side of the wall whispers back, "Keep it down! You may be immortal, but they'll still beat the ever-living shit out of you if you bother them. Besides, they probably burned it. They think we're demons and that anything we have is tainted or some such bull."

Anna started. Ageless? Did that mean she was like them, an immortal soul?

Still, to call such a person a Saint...She wondered. Did that really make her Holy, or were the nuns projecting that onto her due to her age? It was either that, or she really was a Saint, chosen by God?

Looking at her Anna couldn't decide but she felt pity for the woman. She didn't look like she wanted to be there.

The nun said the Saint didn't need words. That didn't necessarily mean she couldn't communicate, Anna considered. She decided to try her luck.

"Lady Saint?" she she formally to her. "We've travelled a long way to get here, from St Michaels in New Orleans, and it's been an odd journey. The Sister told us you have wisdom. Do you know anything about what connects these places? Do you know why we're here?"

Zala watched the woman with that mixture of confusion and anticipation, disappointed that she didn't appear to speak, until she remembered that not all of their kind were as diligent with language as she. Perhaps the woman was merely so old she no longer bothered to learn the vernacular. That was a strange withdrawl from the world, and one she herself had fiercely avoided. Still, perhaps...

"Lady, would you share your wisdom with us?" She asked, first in Latin, then Greek, then her own birth tongue, a dialect of Babylonian. And a few Eastern ancient languages as well, although she was far rustier on those and was less certain of her skill.

Shaun turned to Sachiro, mildly laughing. "I wonder, would it feel tingly, or cold? Or maybe you get greeted by a marching band in Heaven." He followed Fredrick, scared inside. He had always used comedy as a defense, and Shaun was frightened by the thought of being locked in glass for all eternity. No movement, no food, never dying except every now and again from starvation. It would be, in the best sense of the metaphor, a living hell

Seamus froze. His manner became, temporarily, very cold and his eyes flashed steel as he turned to Paddy. "Perhaps you are correct," he whispered with venom, "but as for myself, my faith has only been strengthened by our situation. Do not tell me that there is no God. I will not release my trust in a being higher than myself." Seamus stalked off after the others.

When he reached the chamber, he was still slightly angry at Paddy, even though he knew that there was no reason to be. His control over his emotions was not the best. Still, the woman intrigued him. He repressed his anger for the time being and watched the "saint," a term he was not yet willing to apply to the woman, with interest, examining her reactions.

Moving over to Seamus, Paddy whispered to him "I wouldn't tell you what to believe, but you can't follow those rules by the letter. They were not written for our circumstances and the risk of revealing ourselves is too great". Turning back to this so called saint he watched for any reaction to Zala's questioning.

Zala's group

The Saint gauges them quietly, not regarding any which one in particular and then rises. She reaches under her bed and removes a bag. She then moves to her small drawer and fills it with her few belongings. She removes her habit, nods, and pushes past them out the door, with the young nun bumbling behind, wondering what is going on.

Zala followed the woman, Saint she corrected herself, although what that truly meant in this case was yet to be revealed. There was no hesitation in following her. She had committed herself to the path of this mystery of their existence, and she was going to follow it through, regardless of the danger. Not that much of anything she'd faced yet entered into what she considered danger, except maybe the degree to which she was putting herself in the power of other immortals.

Njord walked over to the cell door wall and shouted over to the guards. "Hey you bastards where in the nine worlds is my guitar.?"

One of the guards looked over, an expression on his face saying he had dealt with questions like this too many times. "Quiet you devilspawn." was all he said.

Njord began hammering away at the bars with his fists. "Tell me where my guitar is don't make me get out there and tear your head off." He began violently shaking the bars, they were well set in and didn't budge at all.

Another guard came over and told the first "Don't worry, they warned me about him, don't get to close or he'll kill ya." He then pulled out a pistol and shot Njord in the head.

Njord recoiled back and waited for the wound to close. He went over to the wall with the section removed and sat down against it and whispered through it. "Well that didn't work like I had hoped, you got any bright ideas over there.?"

Njord

"Yeah, I do...but you must be patient...and quiet..." he whispers through the wall. "As you can tell, they don't like us very much...and they seem to find torture pleasing in the eyes of 'the Lord' so we must be careful. This edifice is run down and water damaged. A lot of the concrete and wood is rotted. I've almost got a hole in through to the wall, and I'm sure you can dig out to my cell, as this crack has afforded us an opening."

Anna watched Zala follow the saint out of the room. Her stomach was turning awfully. There was something weird about all this, and she didn't like it at all. Still, there was no point staying here, especially with Zala gone, and so she set off as well back down the corridors.

In the back of her mind, other thoughts niggled. What had happened to the others in the catacombs, and Njord who'd gone topsde alone. She hoped they were alright. Wringing her hands worriedly, she took a deep breath and continued.

Alright, looks like this place has become a bit of a ghost town because of the holidays. I'll keep the story chugging along for the few of you who update, but I want the rest of you to relax and enjoy yourselves, and don't worry, I won't push it too far. PM me for updates on what happened.

Zala's group

The flustered nun runs ahead, and soon leads an equally bemused Mother Superior and fleet of nuns into the cramped hallways with her. The Saint swiftly dodges them and keep moving, ignoring them and their chattering. Only the Mother Superior looks in wonder quietly as the Saint steadily moves towards the front door. The Mother Superior looks to Zala, and sighs, "She has not moved in all the time I have been here...fifty years. God...this must be a very special..."

Sachiro

Sashiro goes to the casket room, where everything is still partially lit. HE covers his mouth against the stench of the waters and heads towards the casket, with its single occupant facing away from him.

Fredrick and Shaun

You survey the dimly lit room you're in. You can tell the others were here, but you can't tell where they've gone from this point. Shaun might notice some scratchings on the wall where the slab once hung. There is a handle that seems to be poking out of the sparse stone.

"So.. let's follow her, shall we?" Gerard said to both Zala and the Mother superior, slowly backing in the direction of the front door the saint had disappeared behind.

I'm going to assume it wasn't really the saint that spoke, but the mother superior, or am I wrong?

I had been struck with a bad bout of virus a week ago, but it's fine now! Posting shall resume. :)

Giorgio had followed Sachiro, entranced by the silver key and the chest of riddles it might unlock. Pulling his touch phone from his jeans pocket- which was, remarkably, still functional despite falling into the mossy water- he clicked it to life. The wide screen glowed a bright blue, illuminating the walls in the dim passage. By the time the two of them had reached the room bearing the coffin, the ominous glow of the room rendered his phone torch unnecessary, and he pocketed the device slowly.

The Immortal- if it was such a thing- sat with its crooked back to them, the ridges of its spine threatening to poke through the almost rotting skin. Its head was bent, making it impossible to tell what it was doing. Clenching his fists to keep them from shaking, Giorgio took a few steps closer.

Death... Was it truly possible for him? Or was damnation his only path? He had no desire to be trapped in a glass prison for eternity, but the mummy appeared so close to the brink of death, his curiousity grew to impeccable strengths. Perhaps the individual just needed one prod toward death, toward liberation.

Raising one arm, he pointed over Sachiro's shoulder to the top of the box. "The same insignia. I am unsure as to why an individual would keep the key so close to the lock. Were it a more dangerous threat, surely the key would be parted worlds away from this place?" Slowly and calmly, but with an air of anxiety, Giorgio crept toward the glass coffin, the glow of the walls illuminating his worn face.

Zala's group

The Saint continues on her path with her small pack. Many of the nuns are flustered, asking, begging, and screaming to different degrees of confusion and frustration. Only the Mother Superior seems whimsically amused. She smiles, and looks to Anna, "It would seem, she is finally ready to do some work in the world. I don't know who you are...but surely this is a momentous sign from God of wonderful things to come."

Sachiro and Giorgio

Sachiro looks at the body, and grimaces. He sighs and strokes the glass, faltering a little at the cold pulse of its touch, "We're getting you out of there, just wait..."

Sachiro slowly slides the key in, which glows bright blue when inserted. Without Sachiro's aid, the key turns and various part of the seal begin to unwind and unscrew, falling to pieces on the floor before flaring out. Within the coffin, a gasp and an exasperated, though whisper-y cry emanates. The creature within pushes weakly on the lid. Sachiro and Giorgio find that they no longer suffer ill effects from the coffin. Sachiro begins to pull on the heavy lid.

Fredrick and Shaun

The scratches seem to be the result of some, creature or thing. Something large and dangerous with very strong talons. You then hear a growl, deep and low, behind you.

Njord

Before the man can continue, you hear a scream and a curse. They seem to be dragging a rather ferocious woman towards the cage. She is old and wisened, probably well into her sixties and with a small frame...but she fights like a cougar. The other guards begin to help in bringing her in, but the angry and violent woman is eventually subdued by several blasts to the head, that leave her heaving and moaning.

The approach Njord's cage, and begin to open it, too distracted to pay heed to the dangerous Njord within.

As the monstrous individual began to shove fruitlessly against the ornate lid, Giorgio moved forward with Sachiro. He shivered, and suddenly recalled- he had given his jacket to Zala. She and the others had still not returned from the other tunnel. What had Fredrick found, then, if anything? Had they encountered copies of these foreign symbols inscribed on the wall and the key, or something else- something greater?

Putting these thoughts aside for the moment, Giorgio placed both hands on the lid as well and began to heave. His hands were slippery with grime and sweat and slid along the edges. After a few swift shoves, the lid lifted from its place and fell to the floor. Grimacing to bear the smell that was sure to follow the individual, he looked to the glass prison, his limbs tense.
