This looks like a spoof more than a remake.
The reason The Inbetweeners worked in the UK is the same reason it never would in the US, even if they showed the original. Our culture has this fascination with people making fools of themselves and we love it. That's why the Apprentice is so immensely popular here.

I have never heard of this show before but I just watched this trailer and a couple of the UK ones. I have to say the UK one looks like complete shit compared to this remake.
Yeah your opinion is just wrong
Oh wow how insightful of you. That you for bringing clarity to me with that completley fucking useless post.
Thank you for your equally clear post about how the UK version is shit compared to this fucking abomination.

As for your first point it proves you know absolutely fuck all about American culture.
Errr what? I wasn't talking about American culture. Our culture in the UK is obsessed with taking the piss and humiliating people to an extremely crude level just for comedy, more so than I've seen anywhere else. I mean I know you get that to an extent in the US but have you ever watched TV here?

Wow. How fucking dreadful. The british version was so awesome because it the characters were just like real british teenagers (Scarily similar to some people I know actually), I don't understand how it could translate to America very well at all. In theory I could see a US version working if it was redone completely, but then it wouldn't really be The Inbetweeners at all.
Speaking as someone who was a US Teenager at one point, guess what? You're not that different. In fact, I'd say that the archetypes shown in that trailer fit US teenagers almost perfectly.

Also, considering that it's MTV (which is basically the absolute worst of the worst television over here) that was actually kinda okay as far as quality is concerned.

Besides, it's not like this is going to retroactively destroy the British version of the show.

This right here is what I was talking about.

The reason The Inbetweeners worked in the UK is the same reason it never would in the US, even if they showed the original. Our culture has this fascination with people making fools of themselves and we love it.
American culture loves to watch people at their worst. Its one of the reasons they are so obsessed with hollywood and reality tv shows. They love watching other people make complete fools of themselves.

You might be laughing at it for different reasons then the Americans but in the end you both still find the same things funny. One of the reasons it would need a remake aside from the whole actors guild thing is that Americans have a hard time relating to people of other countries. It doesnt matter if the only real difference is an accent and the way they dress thats just the way it is.
I'm willing to bet it's bigger in the UK than it is in the US.

The crude aspect is another important thing though. Probably more so actually. And The Inbetweeners looks really closely at the UK school culture which is probably different to the US one, so there's observational humour which makes it more relatable for us and why it became a bit of a cult programme. I can't remember anything else before like it. There was Skins, but that was much more serious and much darker.

And the grit. Even down to the style it was filmed in, that defined it. Never seen anything American recorded that way.

IT... CROWD... USSSSAAAAA!!!!!!!!

OT:I don't know why, but I fuckin' hate American remakes of British shows. I liked how the griminess of the UK fit in with the Inbetweeners, but this US version seems to throw that out the window for sun and american football and other shite.

'That trailer'... That trailer of the US version. Which is not the UK one. I'm not really sure what your point is.

This was a comment by an American to all us Brits how, and rightly so, thought it was a terrible, terrible idea.

must be fun being an in denial with crooked teeth and being tea sipper. oh wait. hypocrite english logic yet again, funny. you guy's should read your own history. or are you too embarrassed to read about how you were invaded a fuck load of times?
Anyway, it seems they have done, or are doing, to the Inbetweeners what they did to Being Human... And, just, Why? Seriously what is the point? WHY?! OH GOD WHY?! *Sobs*

My point is that people are complaining it's exactly the same as the British version, only with American actors, which somehow makes it completely terrible.

My point is that being British doesn't automatically mean you're so different from an average US teenager.

My point is that as ridiculous and pointless as it might be to remake this, it will translate just fine to America because we're not drastically opposite to how British people are.

I am amused by how 'some American television executive trying to make money' apparently equals ALL AMERICANS AND AMERICA.

and now having typed 'America' three times, it's looking increasingly strange.

Also, Peep Show USA, how could that not work? I don't see many ways in which the concept is definably British.
Unless the actors really fucked up the delivery/writers didn't grasp the subtlety,

I think thats one of the reasons they are remaking it. I think the two cultures are close enough that with a few minor tweaks they can have something Americans could watch. The US loves those underdog type movies so why not a tv show about that. I also think you are overestimating how different US and British cultures really are. The US is just a little more redneck ish.
The UK loves underdogs too, although the thing with the Inbetweeners was that they always failed. That changed with the film actually, which I think gave a great film a weak ending.

I guess one of the reasons I dont like it is the same reason that you do like it. You can relate to it but I cant. I didnt see any crazy hippies that everybody gets along with in it so im out of luck. Well that and it seems like its targeted at an age group ten years younger then me.
Fair enough

The US screwed up Skins, Top Gear and now this. Leave our TV Shows alone! PLEASE!
British TV shows are so much better than American ones.

Unfortunately the only British comedy show I've seen was My Family and I really enjoyed it. It sucks that they are remaking apparently good shows and turning them into something unoriginal and bland. Thanks to this though I might go check out the original. But seriously if they touch My Family I am hunting them all down.

Firstly, I'm going to rephrase this as nicely as I possibly I can: stop being a jerk. I was half-joking when I said your opinion was wrong.

Regardless, there are a number of reason I can say the US trailer is crappy. Firstly, they're just re-using jokes. I'd have to watch it again (which I am unprepared to do, due to the shitness) but I'm pretty sure the trailer didn't have one joke that wasn't just ripped from the original show, but yet delivered with less skill on the actor's behalf. There's also the fact that the jokes they did copy seem to lack the set-up the originals had. For instance, when the cripple gets hit by the American football? Yeah, that wasn't a guy who hurt his legs in the original, it was a retarded girl. In classic American TV fashion, they seem to be making the show more PC.

So, that's my reasoning behind it sucking ass compared to the original. 1) Nobody likes to hear the same joke twice. 2) The characters don't seem to be as iconic as the original show's were. 3) Dumbing down the content.

They've pulled the plug on it I think, according to the sun because that trailer got so much hate.
