The longest ladder in a video game? lets find out once and for all!

Thanks for all the posts and comments so far! This has gotten much more interesting then planned


Post what you believe to be the longest climb, or decent in gaming history via a ladder, elevator or other means of here-to-there! Ladder being the loose term for mode of transport.
This does not have to be a physical ladder!
The idea is to showcase the greatest moments our games have us traverse its levels using a climbing, falling, or moving mechanic!


Notes: MGS3 appears to have the most support by far, lets keep the list going for great moments!
There appear to be more infinite climbs and descents then I had thought! The contenders list is for climbs or falls that reach somewhere.


The speed, and proportions are different for each game/ characters, great to see some of the math behind the falls and climbs!

This tower wont climb itself! You really must be fully aware where your going if you wanna get up there, and a lengthy climb indeed...jumping off is fun too!

Contender#3 Minecraft--> Idea from Zhukov's post!
Although this one needs some faith, because it must be built by individual players! Create gaming's longest ladder all your own! Also, if possible, creating a cart coaster from one side of the world to the other? still need more proof on this one! What inst this game breaking records for?

This climb being infinite if you cannot complete a task! Debatable if anything, as the stairs can be glitched, and later easily climbed. But a great moment for new players!

Actually, I don't think you can create a ladder quite as long as the MGS one on minecraft. Even by mining all the way to the bottom of the map, and building a ladder all the way to the top, it won't take you a whole 2 minutes, non-stop, to climb it.

So yeah, I think that one wins.

When I first watched the MGS ladder video I thought it would be 2 minutes of someone falling off of said ladder. I don't know why I didn't expect it to actually be that tall.

I haven't played this yet, but when I do, I just know that the temptation will be great to reach the top and then jump back down again.

Sadly you cant jump back down, the game doesnt allow it im pretty sure. Im also fairly certain it doesnt let you climb back down either

This is indeed what I'd consider a ladder! I'm impressed the designers felt the need to make it a platforming challenge as well! Very good suggestion!

Hmm.... I don't know if you can really call Catcall tower a "ladder" per say, and it sure didn't have as much sheer out of place, coming out of nowhere, absurdity as the one in MGS3. So I'm going with MGS3 on this one I STILL havn't forgotten that stupid song...

True that! That one seems to have the most confidence behind it from the community!

I include the tower, the tower being a means to change areas without a loading screen, and requiring effort from the player to progress. It requires more effort then the ladder from MGS3, but that one has the song...so im at odds!

Holy Crap...

Why would they even make a ladder as long as that MGS3 one? It just screams "We like forcing players to suffer through infinitely long ladders".
