Not really. You can only go down as far as the bedrock, and only up as far as the clouds.
Even if you built such a ladder, it would not be as tall as the MGS one above. (I think, maybe someone could check this?)

Notch made changing the map height easier which allows "infinite" height and therefore "infinite" ladder.

Also do stairs count? We have the infinite stairs in Mario 64 if you don't have enough stars.

I reckon 'The Fall' from Portal 2 is one of the longest free-fall descents in a game I've ever seen. It's so long it gives GlaDOS enough time to rant at you for like a minute and a half!

This is true. To put it to scale a fall from the top of the Grand Canyon to the bottom takes about 15 seconds. Meaning that's a pretty long fall.

Somebody needs to do some match to find out just how long that fall really is.

I think I'm going to have to throw my weight in behind the MGS3 ladder. Catcall tower may take longer, but it's not actually a continuous ladder. As for Minecraft, not only do you climb a lot faster, but you also have the vertical limitations that make it impossible to make it long enough.

It took snake 2 minutes to climb the ladder, whereas it took AVALANCHE 5 minutes to ascend the stairs.

Those stairs are the worst! Yeah, I'm going to say the ShinRa tower wins for sheer height and climbing duration. Though the MGS3 ascent still wins in the ladder category as far as I can remember...

MGS3, since the Catcall Tower is not technically a ladder, and the same goes for the Shinra Tower.

And I really wonder if anyone is actually gonna make an outrageously long ladder in Minecraft.

The main concept of this thread being a method of transporting the player from one area to the other. Doesn't need to be a ladder exactly, a climb or decent using some kind of tool.

i would say the 7000 steps in skyrim but i dont think that counts...so what aboutthe ladders from charlies angels ps2 game? i wouldnt know whats longer or whatever though

Actually, I don't think you can create a ladder quite as long as the MGS one on minecraft. Even by mining all the way to the bottom of the map, and building a ladder all the way to the top, it won't take you a whole 2 minutes, non-stop, to climb it.

So yeah, I think that one wins.

If you go from end to end of the world in the mincraft world and place a ladder straight down on the ground then you can have the longest ladder.

Not sure this fits on the list, as its a cut-scene. But that is some of the strangest/ entertaining game dialog in recent memory! I need to create a honorable mention list!

added the SM64 stairs to the list, debate rages on if they belong there tho...

How about the Agency Tower in Crackdown...

Or the Eifel Tower in Saboteur? That one takes a while to get to the top! And has some pretty long ladders! Especially as you have to use the side of the tower as the ladder for part of the climb! Definately worth it for jumping off into the tiny pool of water though!

Talking of Eifel Tower, there is the home built one in the famous user map on the Farcry2 Multiplayer! Its flipping huge! And has a lot of ladders!
