"Aww, I love the dynamic that Mando and Grogu (still getting used to) have together. It's adorable. Oh hey, I wonder what this week's episode is called?"
EPISODE 14: THE TRAGEDY
" D: "

Ugh, they only had to go and blow up the Razor Crest (and everything else he owned, including that disintegration rifle), didn't they? However, all the other bits were a lot of fun. Nice to see Bob Fett do cool things for once (I also like how they established that he got out of the Sarlaac pretty quickly, considering his armor was lying around for Cobb to find right around the end of ROTJ), though I'm not too thrilled that the villains got away because Mando didn't think to grab his freaking jet pack. Seems like Mando has Boba, Fennec? and Cara as a posse for the rest of the season, which should be fun to watch (though I was a bit let down when I realized it was Navarro he was landing on, thought he went back to grab Ashoka). Also, holy shit, Mayfeld is coming back! I'm quite the fan of Bill Burr's comedy, and really liked his brief appearance on the show last season, so that was cool to see.
Also been thinking about our villains;
So, I think that they are going to make Gideon "Vader" to Thrawn's "Palpetine". I mean, he has similar looking armor going on right now and has his own laser sword to boot.

I really enjoyed this episode. Although I was hoping they were going to use the old Jedi Temple that was in the SWTOR and Grogu was going to commune with Satele Shan or someone like that.

Great episode. Sad to think it's the 3rd to the last tho...

Disappointed by Tython, but that disappointment was complete overshadowed by pretty much everything else in the episode.

I enjoyed the latest episode well enough, but considering its the second the last episode, you can definitely feel the impact of having so many filler episodes.

Bright points: Boba's spiffy new armor, the interactions between Mando and Bill Burr's character, and one very satisfying callback to Attack of the Clones.

Meh points: score didn't stand out, the whole ep was a little cheesy and corny, and while it was nice to humanize the grunts of the Empire a little, it was really weird when they ended the episode with exploding a whole base of stormtroopers and what looked like innocent refinery workers.

So, fun episode but...is anyone else kind of getting tired of the while "guest star of the week" format? All this "thanks for the help, goodbye" is starting to make less and less sense. Like, I remember in the third episode how apprehensive Mando was about trying to take control of that small transport with three other fully kitted out Mandalorians, and now he is going to storm an Imperial cruiser with only one other Mandalorian outfitted person and two sharpshooters? Didn't even ask Mayfeld if he wanted to help, didn't go back and grab that magical space samurai, or Bo Kataan for that matter (who is also looking for Moff Gideon).

Hey man, Mandalorian is the first universally acclaimed Star Wars that Disney's put out, how dare you criticize them for milking that for all its worth by fitting 5 back door pilots into 8 episodes.

Speaking of, I just remembered that random woman in the black robe that was spying on Mando when he landed on that one planet to drop off the frog lady, did we ever figure out who she was? A part of me thinks that it's just Boba's sharpshooter, but I'm not sure.

Except that’s wrong because Rogue One and Force Awakens were excellently received across the board?

No, they weren't? Especially, although not exclusively, with hindsight? Plenty of people ripped on Force Awakens for copying the original trilogy wholesale, but was generally "forgiven" for "having to make up for the prequels" and "getting Star Wars back to square one". And plenty of people ripped into Rogue One having threadbare characterization and a terrible second act.

I kinda figure that was Bo Katan, to explain how she knew to show up to save Djin's ass.

That was the other female Mandalorian if I'm not mistaken.

This was the first good episode of Mando. The New Republic is not as nice as it pretends to be. The heroes are told about pirates but they were actually insurgents like the Kurds. Thus the heroes killed the good guys. Humanizing the stormtroopers is also great. The win and jubilation is just something never done. Like, why didn't ANH have a bunch of cheering officers relishing the destruction of Alderaan.

It also points to the hypocrisy of the heroes I.e. the Death Star 2 was still under construction. The Rebels slaughtered thousands of builder who were probably being forced to work on the station. After watching particularly people after Floyd died, Hess is right, some people do want order over freedom. 'I dont want to talk about police brutality until you stop rioting!' Mando actually was challenged spiritually, physically and verbally (the latter Mando lost handily and was saved by Mayfield.) He gave up a lot to get what he wants.

Two problems. Mandos speech at the end was stupid and out of character. How are there still people following the Empire after Project Cinder

The destruction of Alderaan wasn't a popular decision made by Tarkin. If any Imperials were cheering that on, I'd think that'd be the opposite of humanizing them. They'd be cartoonishly evil.

I agree his speech was cringe. It seemed more like a taunt to Gideon rather than an emotional outburst, but it looked and felt silly.

Why does anyone follow their obviously corrupt and evil government? Project Cinder is hardly the Empire's worst atrocity.

Just caught upt.

Episode 15:

You know, if a few years ago you told me Mulan, Boba Fett and the Viper would be defending a baby yoda from waves of stormtroopers, I would have said that sounds fake and stupid. Turns out, it was pretty fun to watch. Also, the Dark Troopers from Dark Forces are apparently canon.

On a lighter note, the Imperial Stormtroopers apparently figured out crew served Mortars(finally) and the Imperial Navy apparently remembered they can perform high altitude precision artillery strikes. If only they'd known this during the war.

Episode 16:

Oh, that was a lot of fun. The scene where they arrive at the base felt oddly right despite rooting for the empire(at least in this case). Ironically, it did feel slightly video gamey at times. Hearing "Hauler 3 destroyed" "Hauler 4 destroyed" reminded me of my days playing Command and Conquer and the "pirates" coming in wave after wave, yeah, felt like a video game. Also, the sequences where Fennec and Dune were playing sniper for Mando and Mayfield felt like that as well reminded me of *Name an FPS with a Sniper escort mission*.

Other notable observations include that the Empire apparently uses TPS reports(this explains so much), Empire facial recognition scanners apparently can only tell if you're wanted, not if you're not one of their employees, which seems like a hell of a security bug . Also, apparently the Empire uses WW2 era AA guns, because of course they do and TIE Fighter Pilots are apparently much better shots than stormtroopers(I mean, I know that's not a very high bar to clear but still).

What's the lifespan of a mandalorian? By which I mean how old is bo katan? Gotta be in the 40-60 range at least.

Also Yoda directly communicated with Ashoka just prior to order 66, but she made it clear she stood apart from the jedi.

Okay, well. That was as good an ending as I was expecting. Nice job everyone.

Okay, elephant in the room time. The ending here feels like some kind of reassurance for Luke in the Last Jedi. A sort of "Here, see? He was still cool. He did cool shit" to placate people who are frankly un-placatable. I mean it was cool as shit, hats off to all involved even if the deaging tech wasn't as good as it could have been it did the job. Though the did prick tease us a little too long even once it was super obvious.
