What do you think of the moderators on The escapist forums?

On both a social and professional level

sometimes i don't understand why people get suspended/ put on probation, but usually they are right about the stuff they do.

They are very fair, the forum rules are simple and people who breach them get punished.
i find it very funny when someone tries to the first comment but gets banned/probation because they didn't watch the video.

They seem to completely overreact to a lot of stuff. I don't understand why a lot of people are suspended and stuff. It seems like pure bullshit to me, to be honest.

Haha yeah I'm not their biggest fan I don't find them to be very fair

This, pretty much. Plus, with UltraJoe, Labyrinth and Baby Tea joining the moderation ranks, the Red Guard aren't as put upon now. Six instead of three moderators, plus of course the regular staff, means much less stuff slips under the radar, and there aren't as many gaps when moderators are asleep or at work/school or whatever. I mean, three Australian, one English and two American moderators? Covers pretty much all time periods, right?

I've had scuffles with them in the past, but overall, they're OK.

A lot of people complain that they're too strict when it comes to probations, warnings, bannings, etc, and sometimes that may be true, but I feel that such attentiveness simply comes with the site. The Escapist has been called the "New Yorker" of video game websites, so it's understandable that they keep things under such a tight leash.

Besides, chances are you won't feel their wrath unless you do something very, very, very, very, stupid.

This. They do their task. While we have differences, they still do their jobs well.

What do I think of them? Well, I chatted with them on the IRC way before I realised they were mods, and they're loads of fun for the most part. A bit over my head when they talk about WoW.
LaCoil's still got me terribly confused about what gender UltraJoe is, though. ;-;

This.

I'd say 99% of the time they make the right decision about who to put on probation/suspension or ban and which threads to lock. Although I wish they'd carry on with adding the reasons to the posts or threads, just so people learn from the mistakes, they did it for a week or so after people mentioned it but have recently stopped.

At the risk of being put on probation some people get suspended for put on probation for not really saying anything wrong.

First rule of the Escapist: You do not talk about the moderators.
Second rule of the Escapist: You do NOT talk about the moderators.
Third rule of the Escapist: Ponies rule.

Moderators are needed to keep anything from falling into absolute Chaos.
without them, it would be far harder to hold off the tide of trolls and such.
for that, they have my respect.

This. They're doing their job, and they're doing it well. I've had some problems, but they do the best they can to fix them. Also, if they seem to be getting stricter, it's because of what is going on. Bad quality seems to be increasing, and the staff don't want it here. The Escapist is proud of it's community, and the moderators don't want a stain on their shiny Webby (metaphorically speaking).

I think the mods are cool.

It's usually because the first few posts go up before there would actually be time to watch the video from start to finish. Even when people are just saying, "Nice ZP today" they'll get probation if there was no possible way for them to watch the whole review. It doesn't mean people can't skip through parts to the end, but it's kinda silly to post when you didn't even see the entire video.

I like em, they are a cool bunch. They have nifty ban mops (actually I think Wilson may have a ban vacuum cleaner but that is still up for debate) and are always pretty helpful.

When you get down to it, we're not having to wade through idiots and biggots, and that's good enough, I guess. Although they can be too strict at times.

The pendulum... said... they are wise... and good... and fair.
It said... not to question them.
Questioning them... would give me... unbearable pain.
