The very first boss, two minutes into DMC3.

Holy. Hell. Only not really; just hell.

Still can't beat that stupid reaper/witch/demon thing.

Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors 6, he was impossible to kill, unlike all other characters in the game he is the only one that doesn't do anything when you hit him, and kills you in return in 2 shots, so not fair.

Until I figured him out, the freaking Tower from Shadow of the Colossus (18th Colossus, i.e. the final Boss) had me literally break a controller in two!!!! Not the fight itself, but the fact that you had a split second (at best) to dodge between different rocks and crap just to get to him.

Originally thought this thread was for the stupidest bosses you had to fight, so here's that one too: Fatman from MGS2. Who rides around on freaking rollerscates in a bomb suit? o_O

A draugr boss guy disarmed me and had to search for 15 minutes for my Mehrunes Razor before I could finish killing him.

The Lingering Spirit from Kingdom Hearts BBS. It's a "secret" optional boss, but it's easily the most infuriating thing I've ever tried killing.
It pretty much 2-hits you and most of his attacks are really hard to avoid.

Even better, he becomes a regular enemy later.

Never had much trouble with Flamelurker in Demon Souls...but good lord I hated the Maneaters. Then I got firestorm and facerolled my way through the rest of the game.

Well I would have used a paralysis potion, but the problem was he kept knocking me away with a FUS RO DAH, and he would kill me before my mage got his lazy ass off of the floor.

Plus I was doing a pure magic run through, and I had no physical weapons. >_>

Well it's for both, though some people have had very hard boss fights that leave you feeling hollow inside after, so there is that caveat I didn't consider, but it'll wash out the same.

I had the same issue with the tower in SoTC, and fat man made me laugh so hard, but I was just watching my friend fight him, he did seem really lackluster.

Those fucking stone gargoyles in Dark Souls who defend the Undead Church's roof with such fanatical skill that I screamed "FUCK THIS!!!!" and traded the game in.
Beat those guys with a knife and no armor shield or spells (smug face) although im not saying it was easy. But that game has waaay more bullshitty bosses than those guys for example some guys called Smough and Orstein one of which can fly across the whole battlefeild and stab you without warning or fire thunderbolts through his massive ally.
Or the giant lava breathing spider witch who can blow herself up spontaneously killing you instantly without taking damage.
Or the dragon who can curse you permanently decreasing your health by half until you find a specific item that costs tons or is dropped by giant demonic clams for some reason.

I never did complete that game... didn't want to face the army of giant skeletons in the pitch black cave who fire entire spears from bows.

I very much disliked the final boss of Borderlands. Who honestly sat down to say "you know what this game needs?

"What you beat me? Oh, you all need to have 1hp now..."
She's still my favourite character in that game, even though she did that EVERY FIGHT.

Either that or Sakuya Izayoi from Touhou 06.
"Hey, I'm going to stop time, spawn an absolute tonne of knives around you, pointing just about everywhere, then I'll restart time and you have to dodge them."
Damn maids...

Dullahan, that optional boos form Golden Sun: the Lost Age. I mean, the three games' last bosses were exercises in "I've used HOW many potions?!?", but eminently beatable if you grind it out a few levels and pick up the best gear, with the fights just taking forever. Dullahan, on the other hand, just decided not to play fair. Though basically cut form the same cloth as most other "generic super-tough optional JPRG bosses" he had a few chep tricks that kept me snarling at my GBA for hours. Before I found a few guides he killed me way more than any other boss I had ever encountered up to that point.

My favorite boss is the dual Rajang (Final Invitation) fight in Monster Hunter Freedom 2. Did that fight with double heroics and a bow, now that's a fight that demands perfection literally. If you get hit once even nudged you die. That's why I never understood why people thought Dark Souls was hard. Although I did enjoy the Sif boss fight, took him down at my friends house during my first 30 minutes of play but I guess spear and shield is a good build or something.

If your curious there's a turn by turn guide for that fight. Takes 3 or 4 full turns for a guaranteed kill.

Capra Demon of Dark Souls comes to mind. Not because he is hard or anything (I have beat the game 5 times now) mind you, but because you're going to die with 100% probability the first time unless you possess clairvoiance or inhuman reaction time.
Enter fog gate > You have 2 seconds to dodge a one-hit kill attack (depenging on your vitality), avoid two dogs that staggerlock you AND run up a set of stairs behind the boss and the dogs. In a confined area with no escape.

And the two last bosses of Valkyrie Profile 1. They both have this 1-hit party dies kthxbye finisher, which can be only countered with an item that auto-resurrects your party members. Only, the item in question has a 50% chance of breaking every time it's used so the battles become luck contests.

The hardest no-bullshit boss fight would be Yakumo Ran from Perfect Cherry Blossom's Extra Stage. Took me exactly 99 tries to beat her (the game counts your retries). And there is still ONE MORE boss after her.

Most annoying boss I've ever fought was Saren from ME1. His health bar went down slower than an old person's driving.
Hardest boss would be Boost/Spider Guardian from Metroid Prime 2. Those two can go straight to hell.
Oh my god I remember having absurd difficulty with the latter.....then even more on hard mode.
