Gears of War 3

It's not that it's hard but there's simply too much shit going on. On one hand Theron Guards equipped with Lancers are rappelling up to your location while you have to deal Myrrah and her instant incap/death heat ray if you're not taking proper cover .... assuming you don't get shot up or chainsawed by the previously mentioned Theron Guards and god help you if she's in a position where you'll either get instantly downed or shot up.

I got downed so many times that if I were to try to beat the campaign on Insane, this is the level I would actually be afraid of.

As I wrote in my earlier post, my biggest issue and the "hardest" part of that fight was dealing with a shitty party. I feel like that with my regular party from DA:O, this fight would have been a lot more manageable. Still not easy, because it's actually a pretty challenging fight, but a lot easier to control. The lack of a dedicated healer and a lot of buffs really hurt my output and survivability a lot. I'd really have preferred it to be implemented as an optional boss in DA:O.
That was my biggest complaint about that fight. My character was an Arcane Warrior/Blood Mage/Keeper, and I played through DA:O and Awakening without her dying once(playing on Nightmare), but I had to restart the fight with the harvester almost a dozen times. The only reason I had trouble was that the party was so garbage. No dedicated healer aside from the golem, and the two dwarves were very fragile, and did so little damage that they might as well had been politely asking the harvester to die.

I had the golem just stand in the middle of the room with its healing aura active, and had the dwarves standing next to the switch to prevent skeletons from spawning. My character went toe to toe with the harvester for the entire fight, and won once I was able to keep the boss-level skeletons away from her.

If I had my crew from Awakening, I could have put the controller down and left the room, and returned to watch the credits roll.

The second boss in Pandora's Tower. I was almost out of time when I finished it, besides that I haven't really fought any hard bosses recently.
The second water tower boss is a lot worse, trust me.

OP: i'm gona have to say, the contrarian king in Persona 4 right after i beat Shadow Yukiko, that rampage attack was able of taking out my whole party in one turn.
Once you get the tactic in that boss is actually really easy I beat that one and I hardly took any damage once I got the pattern to beating it.

Exactly, it just seems like a silly idea to keep it separate from the rest of the game, when it's made and released primarily as a challenge and not so much for the story(which is sparse, to say the least). I can understand it with the other story DLCs, but not this one.

I don't want to derail this thread too much, but you're one of the only people I've met on here, who's playing the game/has played the game on nightmare and I have to ask about DA2. Recycling and disjointed plot aside, what was your take on the game from a purely gameplay point of view? The game has recieved a lot of (well-deserved) flak, but I'll go as far as saying that I think DA2 on nightmare is harder than DA:O on nightmare is and to me, a welcome challenge.

To me, it felt like once you got your party and the basic skills down in DA:O, you pretty much sailed through the fights up to and included the Archdemon. This wasn't so much the case with DA2, where all of the bigger fights where a challenge all the way to the end. Granted, there are some bullshit fights like the one with the Arishok, but aside from those, I felt that DA2 was all in all, a bigger challenge than DA:O, in particular the two secret demon bosses and maybe even more so, Beacon and Gifre.

Anyway, as I said, meeting someone lke you on here, who actually enjoys the challenge of the game, I'd just like to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Defeated a few minutes ago the Lagriarcus from MonsterHunterTri. Didn't have as much trouble with it as I thought I would but it still killed me once (you can faint 3 times per battle) and I used nearly 20 potions during that match, it also lasted almost 40 minutes.
I played pretty defensively and striked only when I new it couldn't attack me back, or thought it couldn't :p

A colonel in a one-player game of Syndicate co-op, that was intended for four players to defeat. He has three health bars that can only be damaged by going through a longass breach sequence per health bar (which requires being in very tight quarters), a Gatling gun, tons of friends to help him, and a large open space to pound at you with his Gatling gun while you try your best to get close enough to activate a breach.

Shit sucked.

I rarely play games that have bosses, but couple weeks ago I finished Max Payne 3. The game was very good, and even exceeded my expectations, given the quality of the prequels that were made by Remedy instead of Rockstar. The final boss had me dieing & retrying for fifteen minutes or more. Enemies on too many fronts, always one who doesn't die, and also the deadly projectiles coming at you.

There were also a couple of very difficult bits in midgame. Ordinary firefights, but with the port to PC, followed by the additional difficulty with that, as well as the highest difficulty to boot, it just accumulated to some surprisingly, and most probably a bit unintentional, difficult parts.

I can't remember the bosses name but there are two vampire 'brothers' in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. I beat the first one, first try, no problem at all and even enjoyed it. Then you go through this massive castle and get attacked by the second brother.

He literally regenerates his health 5 times (More if you dont press the right button to stop him) It was so terrible. Even worse his attacks aren't coordinated enough, meaning you try and start a combo and he cheap shots you then flees like a girl. The attack does no damage, just stops the combo, stops you gaining light/dark magic and generally makes the fight longer.

After that boss you fight the Vampire Lord who was piss easy, and could have been the first boss I bloody played... Damn you, inconsistancy!

The Werewolf Lord was also pretty hard once in his second form, destroying the pillars he gains his powers from. But thats mainly a bad camera angle (The pillars are in a circle so running towards the pillar towards the bottom of the circle means the pillar fills part of the screen...)

Still, good game. I doubt I'm going to complete it though. I mean I'm playing on normal, and I rage like crazy when playing it. I've recently got to an area with monsters whose attacks are overpowered and uncoordinated so I can't counter. THE JOYS!

Also, the last boss in FF13. That was good, I got top marks for the fight, and felt like a boss after. It really felt like I actually achieved something!

Even though DA:O is one of my favourite games, which I've played through 3-4 times, I never bought Dragon Age 2. I was planning to buy it right up until I tried the demo. It was not at all what I wanted it to be. I'm sorry that I can't answer your question.

I haven't played any game with a hard boss recently (Skyrim,Fallout, fallout NV) but the closest thing which challenged and made me to create elaborate battle plan was super mutant behemoth in fallout 3 (while being lvl 10) without fatman due to a bug caused by a mod which changes some weapons and on very hard that guy is well managable but you gotta turn the place into a minefield and possibly with heaviest weapons you have but on level 10 it is not really that much possible to find something heavy unless you really focus on getting a heavy wep.

Alex Mercer in Prototype 2. On HARD. It was sad having to kill him, I really liked him as a character.

Off Topic: You should put a spoiler tag in the title.
Same here, but on normal difficulty. It was pretty easy, to be honest, but I don't play many other games that have "bosses" in the traditional sense. Although, I really disliked him as a character; I thought he was a douche since the first game. Heller's intentions are at least more noble, however he goes about it.

No worries, mate, I just assumed someone who'd played and enjoyed the first one would've bought the second one as well. I'm not sure what the demo shows, as I just bought the full game, but it's a shame you haven't played the second. All other flaws aside, the combat and the planning out strategies and such, make up for that and is the reason I replay both the first and second game. To me, the waves system is an added layer and along with repositioning during combat ups the challenge a fair bit.

I'm curious as to what turned you off the second game, though.

None. All of the bosses that I've recently defeated would require me to actually try and make them hard in order for them to be so.

Diablo with my Deom Hunter a month ago. Unlike my other classes, Diablo lay waste to my Demon Hunter since my Hunter rely on range while he got upclose alot. I had to revamp my skills to defeat him (I used Volley and had that turret set up so I can still deal some damage while running away from him).

Haven't played a game with decent boss battles in some time. Have been playing a bit of Demon's Souls on NG+++ about a month ago. False King and Flamelurker will always be annoying as hell.
You specialized in melee didnt you? Those guys are both really easy if you have a decent dex and a good bow.
I didn't really specialize in anything, that might be my biggest problem. I favor melee and magic marginally. My usual getup is Ancient King armor with Dark Silver Shield and Crescent Kilij.

Flamelurker I usually end up beating by running around pillars and spamming Homing Soul Arrows. *cue Benny Hill theme*. False King I insist on beating in melee; it's just the most fun that way. Same with all the Boletarian Palace bosses really.

It was a mixture of everything, to be honest. I didn't like the art style, the character animations in combat, the dialogue system, the removal of many class specializations, and the plot not continuing the story of the first game. It almost didn't feel like it was part of the same franchise.

I wanted a sequel that continued the story, had the same game mechanics, but was more polished than DA:O. I wanted to see the wardens go on the offensive, and slay the old gods before they could be corrupted by the darkspawn, with my warden as the protagonist. Playing as someone else didn't interest me, and all of the other changes didn't help draw me in. After hearing all of the complaints, I don't regret my decision.
