Lol at the kids saying the Beatles.

It really is sad to see the new generation take the roots of their music for granted.
Agreed. I doubt most of the people saying The Beatles are overrated have heard more than a few of their songs. Okay, you've heard "Come Together," "Hey Jude," and "Let It Be" (all of which are amazing songs.) They had over 300 songs. Sure, a lot of it was... not revolutionary - I'm looking at you, Ringo - but they were easily one of the most revolutionary bands of all time. Saying they're overrated is like saying the wheel is overrated.

But, on topic, Kesha. If you're going to "dance like you're dumb," at least sing like you are, too, please, you drunk skank.
Over-rated? Pop Stars don't count as we hate them all! Hell what does quality/depth even matter in mainstream songs, as long as it sounds good it's fine. She's drinking too much blah blah blah, she wants to blah blah blah.
Cookie for reference.

Fucking U2;

Nirvana (Don't get me wrong, it's good, but still overrated)

Papa roach;

Linkin Park;

Metallica;

Red Hot Chilli peppers;

But really, the list goes on and on. Take any popular band that makes half decent music, and chances are, it will be overrated.

Are Operator Please big? I'm from Australia, where the band originated and this is the first time I've heard them mentioned since 2008.

On the topic, I'm okay with The Beatles. They were a pretty necessary stepping stone in music. Although perhaps if they hadn't been big, music wouldn't have evolved into what it is today, and i wouldn't have to think about people like Kesha and Bieber.

Nickleback. A mediocre at best band that BSd its way into being the highest selling band of the decade (1999-2009 or something like that). I'm from Alberta (their home province) and even hear the amount of crap given about them is very low. Which is hillarious, because other than them, Albertans seem to be crazy about Albertan talent. Even if it is 90% country.
At least I know I'm not the only Albertan on here. A few of their songs I like, but more for the lyrics than anything else... but I think they're overrated. I don't get why everyone thinks they're so great when I think they're just okay. :/

DragonForce is... severely overrated. I've heard from some people that apparently they suck live, which detracts from the fact that they're supposed to be musicians and should sound good live, especially if you're paying a large chunk of change to see them do that. Oddly enough, they remind me of Versailles though, whenever I hear them I always think of Versailles. Which is weird, because Versailles are amazing live.

Oh. The Jonas Brothers. *shudders*
Yea. Up here in Edmonton pretty much nobody likes them that I know. They have their music. But actually being a fan ? Nobody.

They're an ok band that could be a pretty good opening band. But not a great band.

Linkin Park....

I'm surprised that nobody have mentioned them.

They suck.
Well, at least from where I'm sitting, they don't seem to have enjoyed a very good reputation for quite a while, 'specially since they released 'A Thousand Suns'. They're mostly associated with whiny emo teens that never grew up. Hell, I used to like them when I was younger, but now they seem to have outstayed their welcome and run out of ideas. Can't stand to listen to their stuff now.

Can't overrate something that's not generally received as being very good.

Probably every popular or semi-popular band that I don't like.

ACDC is definitely the most overrated, with bands like Metallica and The Beatles not far behind.

It's kind of unfair to say a band is overrated. It's all opinion. Bands that are very popular like U2 & Nirvana that I can say I don't like any of their songs I still don't think they are overrated because people like them. I just don't. Even bands like The Beatles & Pink Floyd that I only really like a few songs I don't think are overrated. For the same reason.

when it comes to The Rolling Stones & Queen I'm a fan. I love many of their songs. What defines overrated? It all about talent. Do I think Queen has more talent then U2? No it's all taste. Does it matter that one band might use more complex and harder instruments or singing? Only to a small degree. They both found a market for the music they wanted to make.

If some musician got away with stumming c chords over and over singing La la bala bady out of tune and people raved on about they were better then any of the bands above. Nows thats over rated. True you can say they were skilled enough to fine a market for their work but the amount of work they put in is no where that of what the other bands put in.

AC/DC. The Beatles.

Yeah, I'm sorry for those that like it. But... I listened to plenty of it, and it doesn't spark the awesome out from me.

The Beatles. /thread
This.
I think this is one of the few times /thread can be used properly.

Also, Nirvana. Alright, they are good, great even, and I love their music, but.. they are not that good.

I mean, Smells Like Teen Spirit is pretty easy to pick up on the guitar, and it's one of the greatest rock songs of all time apparently.

I'm not bashing Kurt's death when I say this, but just because he did die, that doesn't somehow make Nirvana's music better.
It's still great, just not God-like.

Ouch, most of the bands mentioned in this thread I actually like, love some of them even.

To those who don't like Nirvana because of Kurt Cobain you might be misinterperating him but I wouldn't blame you, the guy was messed up to put it lightly.

As for me I'll say The Beatles, Bring Me The Horizon, Fallout Boy, U2, Greenday (even though I like them) and Iron Maiden (again I like them but eh, there's better).

seeing as it's apparently now hip to dislike the Beatles (see: this thread) I can't really call them overrated

i'd say Pink Floyd

I haven't read all the comments and i'm not going to but so far i haven't heard any one say linkin park. I guess they're pretty popualare with all you guys but i think that linkin park is a shitty band and get way too much credit. I notice alot of people saying the beatles. Personally i love the beatles but i can see how people don't like them. There music is pretty simple and lyrics somtimes can be pretty pointless but these qualities are what i like about them. Don't get me wrong i love complexe music. I'm a muso myself so i like quality music but i also like it when bands like the beatles keep it simple. I also like all the protest songs put out john lennon and i like some of paul's solo stuff but iguess that isn't the beatles.

Actually i think tom is right. The beatles were a great band and we take them for granted. If it wasn't for them alot of rock music wouldn't be around. I know the beatles weren't the heavest band but they inspired a lot of bands that are populare today. I do agree that times have changed but we should repect the past.

Blink-182.

It's annoying how popular they are. Plus the drummer is average and I want to rip the vocal chords out of the lead singer. Plus they just sing about poppy crap.
I Hate You. I could stand here all day and explain why blink-182 is the greatest band (IMO) of all time. but you have you're opinion and you are entitled to it like the rest of us...

anyway, I would have to say U2 because Bono is a douche.
