Heroes of Might and Magic series. screw dark messiah, the HOMM games are the only inhabitants of Perfection City.
Now there's an underrated game: Dark Messiah.

Instead of HOMM, a real TBS player should play Master of Magic or Age of Wonders, but messiah was a somewhat original game with no alternatives.
First person melee combat that actually WORKS and that's only an optional part of the game. Not without flaws, but DM is good enough for a recommendation.

Beyond Good & Evil. No one seems to know about it yet it's so amazing.

I might replay it actually.
Eh. Playing it for the first time now and I honestly don't see whats so great.
Give the whole game a go. It's got a great story once you're into it and it's a nice change to be shooting things with a camera, instead of a gun.
Yeah, and with the disc projectile, whats the difference?
Ok, you got me there. But at least you tried it, that's better than a lot of people.

Stranger's Wrath, Okami, BG&E, Psychonauts. Criminally undervalued. Didn't get the publicity they so richly deserved and didn't sell.

let me just say that a few of these games do not seem that under appreciated: phsyconauts, okami, beyond good and evil. Yes they werent the biggest selling games ever, but from what i have seen everyone on here loves them, they all got good reviews as well. So they may not have been marketed right but they are not underappreciated.

No one has ever heard of Shadowrun... And even less actually play it, but I reckon it's brilliant. 100% combat game that has loud guns and magic aspects adding to the gameplay, other games have magic and guns but this does it so well. The most underated game I have ever played.
Wasn't that the game that let PC users play against 360 users?

As for under-appreciated games: Beyond Good & Evil, Okami, and Psychonauts.
Yup... I reckon Shadowrun, Halo 2, and Lost Planet Colonies are the only cross-platform games out at the moment (I've heard of a few more coming).

But the thing is about Shadowrun, most of the players have are 360 players (the ratio I reckon is about 10:1 players on 360 and PC respectively), and X-Boxers have auto-aim, so I have a major disadvantage on my laptop. Not that I don't win or anything, I seem to be consistantly at the top in the rankings for each match, it's just that in situations of close combat I do not survive. For example, One Vs One both using SMGs, I can be facing the enemy doing my damn best to keep the crosshairs right on him and he kills me even though he doesn't bother to look at me, honestly I can be at a right angle to where the other dude is aiming and bullets never fail to hit me. Auto-Aim is for cross-eyed players!!!

Apparently we have a different opinion on what constitutes "under appreciated". To me, it means "the mass public under appreciates the title", or IOW, the title doesn't sell well. 8 people on a forum does not the mass public make. Particularly this forum, which doesn't seem to be full of people like Yahtzee's "Adrian".
The OP didn't state what constitutes under appreciated. I'm going with "didn't sell well enough to make publishers justify continuing to make games like it".

So put me down for Evil Genius, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, The Longest Journey, and Startopia, in addition to my aforementioned Anachronox, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, and Beyond Good and Evil. Good games that not enough people played. I will admit, many of them had their bugs and design issues. But no one is perfect. The creativity of the titles and their storylines make them stand apart from more over appreciated, mediocre titles (I don't want to flamebait, but choose a platform exclusive with a number on the end and you wont be too far off).

Easily, Star Wars Republic Commando
I loved Republic Commando until halfway through the game: on Kashyyk, you look up at the looming Star Destroyer, Yoda tells you to destroy it, and then the game ends. Talk about coitus interruptus.

Magic Pengel For the PS2. You got to PAINT/CREATE YOUR OWN MONSTERS!!! How beast is that? It's got the best user created content on a PS2 game. It's just ridiculous that this hasn't been exploited again.

Gotcha Force for the Gamecube. This game is about using little toys to fight for you. You got to directly control your guys, and was awesome as you steadily built up an army of little dudes fighting for you.
