I was confused at first, because the article was in no way differentiated from a news story, but got pleasantly surprised afterwards.
Still, I do believe your decision making on the issue is poor. Adaptations are just another way to get into something. Do you want to see an adaptation? Go see it, that's what it's made for! Then, if you like it and/or still need to, go seek out the original! It's all entertainment, isn't it? What's the point of turning it into a chore? When you're dealing with an unchanged story, whatever way you start it's going to be repeated. That's not spoiling, it's the reality of wishing to see the same thing twice vie different mediums. So, my opinion is you should first see whichever version is the most exciting to you at the moment. That way you'll enjoy the content the most. As for the second time, you either have the capacity and/or opportunity to enjoy that same content in another shape because it's in another shape (in which case, good for you, you get twice the fun!), or you don't (in which case, why force yourself to be something you're not?).
Now, when in-story continuity is concerned, like with the Lost finale, I absolutely share your views. I always watch my TV series from the beginning and in fact dislike watching them with people who jump in midway. But that comes from me being more satisfied by each episode when watching them like this and in the end not caring if it takes time to catch up. Adaptations, reimaginings and so on work differently, though. It's all about the present with them.
Thanks for the piece and helping me to flesh out my thoughts!
