Simply put yes, The orange box is one of the best investments you can make (especially for that price) its got 5 great games in it, you dont get much better value than that.

Just get it, fine on PS3.
What about EP2, I hear that it judders a lot during the final battle, if you could say otherwise I'd be listening since I have a PS3 and my games catalogue is sorely lacking in a Valve game because of the obvious.

Get it on the PC, the console versions are shit.

They never update the PS3 or XBox 360 versions, so both will be buggy, unbalanced, exploitable, and frustrating.

EDIT: But yes, it's a very good buy.
I had an Xbox 360 with The Orange Box and it played flawlessly.

Sure I agree that TF2 hasn't received quite the same amount of love as its younger prettier sister on the PC but I played it to death and didn't find nor come across glitches and bugs.

It depends, if you aren?t really going to be playing TF2, go ahead and get it on the PS3, it?s pretty inconsequential to the other games. Apart from Portals new ending leading to the sequel but you can find that on youtube if you?re interested at all.

If you are at all interested in TF2 never ever get it on the PS3, it is a terrible port, it has none of the fixes and updates that include a boat load of new content. If you are going to play TF2 get it on the PC through steam. If you aren?t so much interested in Half Life 2 and its episodes or TF2 and are just really interested in Portal you can get that free on Steam.

If you?re in it for Half Life and Portal it isn?t such a bad deal considering it does cost a little more through steam. I have no idea how much it costs on the Xbox and I could be wrong but I think the extra updates for TF2 cost extra while they are free on the PC.

That?s if you have a PC that can run it, the other games might be fine but TF2 can be pretty demanding. If you can?t run it settle for the PS3?s port, it?s still pretty fun even with its balance issues and a few bugs and exploits that people take advantage of.

No, EP2 runs fine after the final battle, not sure were you heard that :|
One reviewer (on another site) who is known to be a "graphics whore" said the PS3 version of the game is unplayable, but he considers a single frame rate drop with vsync tearing to be unplayable so we all knew he was being a drama queen.

Still the amount of attention the PS3 version gets on forums I'll admit that I was taken in, I'm guessing people just regurgitated the original reviewers comments.

Edit, dude, I need to know whether it runs fine "during" the final battle, not after buddy!.

oooo... the PS3 version? I heard that one was really glitchy. If you can, get the PC version, or the 360 version. You know how gabe newall "used to" hate sony? That kind of thing was probably why (I've got nothing against sony or the PS3 so please don't hurt me.)

Either way, 15 bucks even for an okay game is a great deal, so a bundle of five of the best games EVAR!!!11 for only 15 bucks makes it a done deal.

If you can buy portal on it's own you'll be much happier and you'll save money. Half Life 2 (And episodes) is less a game, and more a teaching tool on the depths people's opinions will sink to. You will leave depressed, then you will be confused, then angry, and then you will accept that it's basically the PC gaming equivalent of Twilight and there's no reasoning with it's fanbase aboot it.
That's 4 out of 5 games, what about the fifth? TF2?

OT: Don't get it for PS3. Even if you have to pay an extra £5, buy it on PC so that you can play TF2 properly [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC]

It is still a good deal for the PS3 but like a lot of the posters above have already stated the PC version has a lot more going for it. If you have a decent PC and steam get it for the PC instead. But its not bad on the PS3 just slightly less good.

Tell me, dear Escapists, how is it elitist to say that the PC version of TF2 is better than its console relatives? Considering that the PC version gets a steady stream of updates and fixes that the consoles may never see, I don't quite understand how stating a simple fact can be called "elitism."

Anyway, on topic, get the PC version if you can. I think you'll find that the HL games and Portal play better (being on the intended platform and all), not to mention having all the community support. And, as I've already mentioned, you'll definitely want TF2 on PC for the best experience.

If you can't go with the PC version for whatever reason, then I suppose you can go ahead and get the PS3 port, but don't be surprised if you run into issues, and don't expect much from TF2.

EDIT:

All the games save for Portal in the Orange Box are first person shooters. Team Fortress 2 is one of the most popular class-based online games right now (the PC version is, anyway), though I've heard complaints that it's now more about grabbing a mass of hats to increase your prestige instead of just having fun with the game, and has become more and more like an MMO than a traditional class-based FPS. Still a very, very good game.
Just to address this, no, it's not about the hats. One might think this way by looking at the forums, but you have to remember that the majority of the players aren't on the forums, because they're most likely having fun playing the game. Anyway, hats aren't a big deal anymore. Almost everyone has at least one, and at least one that they like, not to mention the free ones that get handed out. Point is, most people realize that they're just cosmetic, and aren't going crazy over them.

As for the MMO thing.....yeah, no. Hates and sidegrade weapons do not an MMO make.

If you've played the original Half-Life before, Half-Life 2 is basically that with more of a focus on the writing than on the gameplay. The Episodes mostly maintain Half-Life 2's quality of writing while strengthening/providing more of the Half-Life 2 gameplay.

Portal is a puzzle game people like to call a puzzle shooter even though the core element of a shooter isn't really present. It's a short, rather easy puzzle game, but has one of the most memorable characters in recent gaming history whose lines have been so frequently quoted that people loathed those who quoted them for a while.

If you need a reason to get the Orange Box, it's because Yahtzee likes it, and if you're posting on the Escapist, you like Yahtzee.

I am told the PS3 version is rather buggy in comparison to the PC/360 versions, so go for the PC version if you can. You can get it new on Amazon for 10 bucks more.

Nah,(for TF2) PC gets balance updates, new items at a steady pace, different promotional activities, offline training for new guys, bots, etc.
This
Get a it on PC if you can. This is nothing about PC vs consoles. PC version is much better, thats a fact.
