There is a completely different management team and MS now from when X1 launched, and given that the blunders they made at the start of the gen have hobbled them ever since, I doubt they will be eager to go that route again. Then again, one can never discount corporate greed entirely.Adam Jensen said:https://www.escapistmagazine.com/v2/2019/04/16/playstation-5-and-the-death-of-the-console-wars/
This is an interesting article. I really hope that Sony's not trying to reinvent gaming by taking away even more control from players, which is something that Microsoft is obviously moving towards. And it was their attempt back when they announced the Xbone. I doubt that they learned their lesson. They'll be trying that shit again next time, I'm sure. Sony though, I really hope that they'll simply focus on improving those aspects of console gaming, and gaming in general, that have plagued gaming systems forever, with loading times being a key aspect.
I like the contour of the Xbox controller and the feel of the triggers, but that?s about it. I think if if those features were applied to the DS4 it?d be nearly perfect. I get the reasoning for the analog stick placement on Xbox controllers, but personally I like them to be symmetrical. Something always felt off to me with Xbox controllers, almost like a car?s steering wheel being out of alignment.Gordon_4 said:The Sony controller was fine in the pre-analogue stick days but I find the DS3/4 have them too close together and it makes my hand cramp to use them for more than an hour. The 360 controller on the the hand, I can use comfortably for several hours on end. Maybe if you have smaller hands the spacing on the Dual Shocks are fine, but in my gorilla paws, no dice.CritialGaming said:I mean the Ps controller basically hasn't changed a fucking thing since it launched. Remember the fat sack of trash the OG Xbox had? That thing was like holding a controller the size of your head (roughly the size of an American Cheeseburger).
The N64 controller had an extra dildo on it because Japan thought people had three hands for some reason. The Gamecube controller was better, but only by comparison to the shit device that came before it.
Sony is the only company that nailed the design the first time and stuck to it. Minor additions and alterations, but the shape and feel has never changed.
The Big show (a wrestler who is an actual giant, though on the lower end of that biological scale really) did a lot of promotional stuff with Destiny, and actually did have a custom controller (Playstation IIRC, though I'm not 100%) made for him.hanselthecaretaker said:As an aside, one would think by now the console makers would offer different size controllers since everyone from small kids to NBA players play games on the same pad.
They actually did try to fix it with the DS3, and it gave us the infamous marshmellow triggers; buttons so bad Sony's own first-party developers opted to put their shooting controls on the shoulder buttons instead.CritialGaming said:I mean the Ps controller basically hasn't changed a fucking thing since it launched. It may be worth once there are some respectable titles on the PS5; until then, I'd have no reason to get rid of my PS4.Samtemdo8 said:I find it good enough that its backwards compatible with at least the PS4.Squilookle said:That is not fantastic backwards compatibility. Honestly all Nintendo has to do is genuinely commit to a virtual console that actually includes all the games from previous systems, and it'd be all I ever needed (I'd understand if Wiimote games were excluded though). To date, those first-gen PS3s still had by far the best backwards compatibility we've seen.
PS4 has a massive library of games I wanna play right now. Especially exclusives.
And some games I prefer playing a PS4 then a PC like One Piece World Seeker.
Here you go: 8 pages of context. Enjoy!Gordon_4 said:Uh, some context is needed I think
That's percisely why I would get a PS5 at launch, to avoid that shit from happening again.CaitSeith said:It may be worth once there are some respectable titles on the PS5; until then, I'd have no reason to get rid of my PS4.Samtemdo8 said:I find it good enough that its backwards compatible with at least the PS4.Squilookle said:That is not fantastic backwards compatibility. Also, remember when the PS3 was at first backwards compatible with PS2 games, and a few years later it wasn't anymore? The good old days of gaming...
The fact that the PS3 was selling like shit at the time and the BC was adding to the production cost hence adding to the price. They made the right decision.Samtemdo8 said:And what was Sony's reason for pulling Backwards Compatibility off the PS3?
Hmm...so expect 599 US dollars again for PS5 because of PS4 Backwards compatibility?Casual Shinji said:The fact that the PS3 was selling like shit at the time and the BC was adding to the production cost hence adding to the price. No, probably not. It wasn't just the BC adding to the cost, but it certainly wasn't helping. Crazy Ken (Katuragi) was in charge of the PS3's architecture and he wanted the whole cell processor, which cost a fuckton, along with the built-in Blu-ray player (at the time). You keep adding all those features and it's no surprise why the price was so jacked.Samtemdo8 said:Hmm...so expect 599 US dollars again for PS5 because of PS4 Backwards compatibility?Casual Shinji said:The fact that the PS3 was selling like shit at the time and the BC was adding to the production cost hence adding to the price. Assuming the PS5 is x86 architecture as well, backwards compatibility will hardly add to the cost on a per unit basis as it should just be a bit of software needed to run PS4 games.Samtemdo8 said:Hmm...so expect 599 US dollars again for PS5 because of PS4 Backwards compatibility?Casual Shinji said:The fact that the PS3 was selling like shit at the time and the BC was adding to the production cost hence adding to the price. And they could have just made it an option. Do you want a 200 Dollar PS3? Or do you want a 300 dollar PS3 with PS2 and PS1 Backwards Compatibility?
They'd be thick as pig shit to change architecture again for the PS5.Phoenixmgs said:Assuming the PS5 is x86 architecture as well, backwards compatibility will hardly add to the cost on a per unit basis as it should just be a bit of software needed to run PS4 games.Samtemdo8 said:Hmm...so expect 599 US dollars again for PS5 because of PS4 Backwards compatibility?Casual Shinji said:The fact that the PS3 was selling like shit at the time and the BC was adding to the production cost hence adding to the price. The extra spacing between sticks is a plus too. I hope the 5?s controller fixes the annoying drifting issue though; my right stick will be idle and the camera wanders upwards. Tried the blowing forced air and 360 click trick but doesn?t fix it completely. Might take it apart to see if it can be remedied but otherwise I have new and used backup that I?ve mostly played MKX for on PC, so the sticks should still be in pretty good shape.Casual Shinji said:They actually did try to fix it with the DS3, and it gave us the infamous marshmellow triggers; buttons so bad Sony's own first-party developers opted to put their shooting controls on the shoulder buttons instead.CritialGaming said:I mean the Ps controller basically hasn't changed a fucking thing since it launched. The DS4 also changed the feel of the controller quite a bit, but unlike the DS3 the result was really positive. Those hand grips are luxurious.
its because people hold out on things until they're "cheap enough".Smithnikov said:I just now got my hands on a PS4, now this happens. *SIGH* Damn I'm pathetic.
