Many of these things have been launched across rooms, thrown through windows, stickers peeled off etc. But how many of you can solve these little blighters? Which method do you use? And whats your best time?

I can solve it using the beginners method and my quickest time is 2 minutes 30-ish. I have spent the day trying to learning a more advanced method, it didn't go well.

I used to have a real nice method down where I could get it done in well under a minute, but then I forgot it so now I'm down to a significantly slower method because I couldn't find the site where I learned how to do it the first time...

Now I can solve it relatively quickly, but nowhere near as fast as I was once capable of.

Apparently, I used the Left Handed method despite my being right handed... Go figure.

They are easy to solve, you just have to know the formula's for the certain patterns and such.

I am afraid of those nasty little buggers.
Such a simple principle, yet astoundingly hard to figure out. By yourself, that is.
I don't care much for the sport in itself, but I'd have respect to anyone who has solved it by him/herself.

I went on rubik craze a couple of years ago, and can still do one - just about. I think my method was F2L; cross on final side; place final corners; rotate final corners; place final edges.
My best ever time was 42 seconds, a number that I'm very satisfied to settle on! :D

Next up is solving a 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 cube...

Neither have I. I do however have a commerative toyota one which looks incredibly nice on my fireplace. Tried it twice got bored after about 10 mins each time.

My brother once painted all the sides black. Still took him more than 2 minutes I think.
As for me, Rubik and I, we don't like us very much. Mine always break before I have a chance to learn how to solve them (I know, maybe I shouldn't buy the cheap ones but meh). Two sides is my best...

I know how to do them. Used to bring it to school and impress a few people. Funny because I learnt it by myself and then just did it in front of my friends without telling them a thing. They kinda looked at me in shock.

Long time since I've done one though, so I'm probably quite rusty. I think my record was somewhere around 50 seconds or so.

Know the algorithm, and it's easy. My best time is 50 seconds. My best time while riding a bicycle at 25kph is 1 min 21s. ^^;

Same here, though I have never looked at any 'methods' for solving it. I spent a whole plane journey fuming over one, without result. I had never felt so stupid.

2 mins 11 was my best, that was with the instructions that came with it.

I don't do it any more though so I kind of forgot how the method.

I don't find it even remotely impressive any more.

I haven't actually solved one in a long time I used to have them as a kid. I still have one now but it's for display only (It looks like the puzzle box from Hellraiser)

Never solved one, but I know I could learn how in about 10 minutes. It's not impressive to me, and I never really bothered to learn. It'd take longer for me to go out and buy one than it would to learn how to solve the bloody thing.

I've finished one, and only one. It was entirely luck. I did have a friend who got good enough at it that he finished one in the time that a plane started taking off to just before the last wheel left the ground. Also a friend of a friend who could finish a rubik's cube faster than he could undo his girlfriend's bra...
