what running at the enemy isn't possible that means I do the impossible nearly every time I play. but on a more serious note I often charge at the enemies and it tends to work for the most part all you have to do is time the charge and pick the right path.
btw tremors rocks.

I did that all through the last mission of Oblivion. Screw that, I'm not fighting all those guys.

I'm not sure if this counts but way back when Mech Warrior 2 was out there was a level where you had to fight through a city and blast everything and then the citys generator. I tried it a few times the 'normal' way then I said screw it and made a super fast light weight mech with one tiny laser and run full tilt all the way into the city, shot the generator and left.

There was one part in KoTOR and a ton in WoW where I've made the "fuck all, flee!" decision
i here ya, had many of those in City of Heroes when i played that, its replacement, Vindictus >.> doesn't allow for such plans however, since agro dropping, is pretty much not possible, unless you move to the next section, but even then, pretty much them or you at all times

The only time I run is when I have a "wait, what the fuck, why is that chasing me?" moment.

Most recent example: Encountering a Super Mutant Master apropos of nothing while trying to shortcut from the tracks back to Primm. I'd never seen a Mutie in that spot before and I've played the game 150 hours!

I ran like hell, and thankfully two things happened---one, most of the 5mm bullets missed and two, being lightly armored (Leather Armor, Reinforced, since my character was only level 7 at the time!) gave me the speed needed to get back to Primm alive.

I liked Call of Dutys way of pressing A (360) to climb up surfaces... I can imagine it'd make for some pretty epic gameplay if they made it more fluid while sprinting. This is of course for the online.

I've seen several moments in singleplayer games when simply running for it is a perfectly good strategy, but not enough.
Have you seen Brink gameplay commentary? It looks like a more open version of Mirror's Edge mechanics.
Does running because you are scared out of your fucking mind, trailing a stream of urine, and yelling count? (Amnesia)

Also, playing a Rogue in WoW afforded me a lot less deaths and repair bills. Both tanks down? CHEESE IT ! *Vanish*
Oh yeah, that's why I was drooling over Brink, I forgot.

I try not to do it often but there are those few games when the enemies are coming at you with too many people too handle and you just have to run. I can't think of any games right now but I've been overwhelmed before by massive amounts of enemies before.

It happens once and a while. You want to play the game properly, take your time, snipe people, nice and tidy. But sometimes the game just gets bitchy and you decide, 'screw it' and just make a run for it through mobs, bullets, fire, dragons, whatever gets in the way.

The thing is, I never played a game that had a mechanic in place for just that strategy. Some games let you fight, sneak or talk your way in or out of situations, but what about the 'run for it' enthusiasts? What about the Tremors fans? Are we out of luck? We get no xp for killing, no clever dialog cutscenes, nothing.

Oh sure, there are the occasional moments where you run for it, but they only happen when the developers dont give you any other choice. 'Shit has hit the fan, now run!' appears on screen, and you run. No. I want 'run for it' to be a viable strategy just as much as combat is. You know, like in the Matrix.

I know quicktime events are pretty much despised in games, but I loved Shenmue, so to hell with the nay sayers. I wouldnt mind seeing more of them implemented in a mechanic like this one. And if quicktime is really out of the table, how about standard FPSs borrowing a mechanic or two from Mirror's Edge?

Thats all Im saying.
I'm in favour of more than binary options, so I like this idea. I don't think I'd ever do it, but I like having more options than "fight or stealth."

Or whatever the two options we end up getting are, because there's usually two. Talk or fight, hide or fight, assassinate or throw down, assassinate or stealth (Not always the same thing), etc.

Jenner or Firefly ftw?

OT: So much speed mode in Crysis. So much. It's like the beginning of the level was Ancient Egypt and I was the nation of Israel moving on to the promised land, except I brought a minimap and skipped the 40 years of wandering in the desert.

oh boy.. I barely remember. I think it was a 30 ton mech with one small laser mounted to the head or center. I remember it topped out at like 200 kph or something ridiculous, like it wouldn't steer properly at that speed (up until someone got a lucky graze on my leg and knocked my speed down a bit)

I should try crysis but my pc sucks so much.

How about rushing towards a safe-house in L4D, or to shut down an alarm attracting the horde in L4D2?
This. About all i can think of. And sometimes in MMO's when your simply outmatched and need to loose aggro.
