I don't understand where the 9/10 is coming from. Doesn't the Escapist use 5 stars to rate games?

I suppose these kinds of things are meant to be shorthand at-a-glance accounts of the games "worth"but I feel they are somewhat antiquated. Can't really convey much with just a fraction.
That is the system they use and I wish they wouldn't. In fact, I wish everyone would drop numerical ratings for pretty much all criticism. I don't see how that system is particularly useful when what an individual values in a game may or may not have anything at all to do with why the game received the score it did. You can two games get a 3.5/5 and both have vastly different aspects of the game that informed that score. I think I recall Jim Sterling saying that he liked using numerical ratings for criticism, I just don't think it tells the audience much, if anything, about whetehr they will actually enjoy the game.

Complete bollocks. Nobody is losing their shit over anything, until someone pistol whips a game journalist with a two 1/2 foot long double-sided dildo.

Then and only then, will I admit that shit has officially been lost.

That's one thing about gamer culture or any media culture I'll never understand, actually... I think I do understand it, I just think its absurd.

Rage about subjects like EA, DLC, Phil Fish, I get that. But over a review? Just because something isn't perfect doesn't detract from it if you personally find things to enjoy about it. Also, the people critiquing or criticizing the game aren't critiquing YOU. It doesn't matter if Wonderful 101 got lackluster reviews, it says nothing about you as a person for liking such things. People take this shit way too personally, but if they're twelve, then that myopic view makes sense I suppose. It's rich because its the same as the people who take it personally that Sarkesian criticizes games. "She's calling me out! I take personal offense!"

I think all this stuff is a bunch of silly bullshit.

But I absolutely love how the journos pretend to be ever so victimized when all this controversy and butthurt translates directly into money in their pockets from the deluge of hits it creates.
...I'm sorry, how can someone pretend to be victimized when they get thousands upon thousands of comments saying how they should get raped, should get fired, should kill themselves and all the other horrible stuff I read in the time I could bear to stand on the youtube comment section of the Gamespot's review of GTA V. That and all the crap going on in the comment section of GTA V on this site? That's not pretending to be victimized, that IS being victimized.
"Abloo bloo bloo! Someone in the youtube comment section said something meeeaaan!"

You'll excuse me, but having seen real abuse and real actual death threats, in some cases delivered by means of notes tied to rocks, you'll have to excuse me if the plight of someone who gets some idiots posting "lol ur a **** and u should kill urself" doesn't stir the greatest feelings of sympathy.

These people aren't victims, they don't even have to look at these comments, bitching about this is like going out to a dump and then complaining that you are being "victimized" because you have to smell garbage.

They are under no threat, and they are under no compulsion to engage with or acknowledge the negativity.

Meanwhile they can rake in the dough that all this bullshit makes them.

And quite frankly I just went to the Gamespot review's youtube comments, and it's overwhelmingly filled with people defending the review so I can't even figure out what the problem is supposed to be. Some people on the internet are stupid? Well woopty shit! Better clear the front page for that startling revelation!
One problem being more serious than another problem does not make the smaller problem irrelevant. Christ, TotalBiscuit actually got stress related illness from reading his Youtube comments. Because you could just ignore the comments, but that's kind of like shutting off a major portion of your audience, not everyone can afford to do that.

Um...under no threat? Uh...you might want to read this.

Pardon me but I don't think that the ad revenue on a single review is going to rake in a huge amount of cash. Not to mention the way you word it kinda makes it sound like they intentionally tried to get angry comments.

It's pretty 50/50. You should've seen it the way it was when it first came out. Whoo boy. Also yeah it is a pretty well known problem. That doesn't make it any less of a problem.

It's important to note that different gamers have different taste, and what may be a 10/10 for one would only be a 4/10 for the other, based purely on enjoyment. Any reviewer who does not write three different reviews (10/10, 8.5/10, and 7/10 to cover the whole gamut) for every single game they review and then automatically show the appropriate one to each individual based on a brainscan is not doing their job correctly. As we know, a review should reflect the reader's opinion on the game, only address technical flaws if they want the game to be bad, and have no relation to the reviewer's opinion.

P.S. Thanks

You seem to have a vastly inflated impression of how much money internet advertising tends to make, and also if you're going to make the kind of implications you are here, it's best to back them up.

Rockstar releasing a crappy port a year later is a bunch of BS, but at least it means we smug PC master race won't get to it until then, when everyone else is focused on... Harvest Moon or something I dunno.

Note: I have no opinion on the GTA V review Tito wrote as I have not played the game, my comments are meant to be a general condemnation of overreaction.
And I am Overreacting to your condemnation of others overreacting!!!!

And will continue to do so in the manner of an angry snooty 12-year-old message board fuck!!!!!

Thus ticking all the boxes for overreaction!!!!!

How dare you act in a mature manner!!!!!

There are not enough exclamation points in the multiverse to sufficiently describe my overreaction or rage I will now have to finish off my diatribe in italics!!!!!!!!

On a more serious note I will never 'get' people's strong reactions to reviews. It's one person's opinion of a game.

If anything the more different opinions we all hear about something the easier we can find a more educated and nuanced opinion of our own.

Erin doesn't write for The Escapist. And one of the first things people did with the review here was convert it into an X/10 score. The other thing was complain, many people without reading the review itself.

Volition's saving that for DLC.

Well, at the very least people can't complain it's not on-topic.

Well, they can, but it's pointless.

Your use of italics is more than my Zen-like nature can bear! Feel the wrath of my impotent internet rage!

Educated and nuanced opinions?! Blasphemy, there are only two sides to any issue and if you aren't with me, you are against me!

(I'm actually starting to see why people do this, it's kind of fun!)

OT edit: Not quite as baiting and therefore not quite as funny as the last couple, still good.
Ffffffffuck Daystar, I hate that guy.

What with his handsome features and witty sense of humour.

Screw that guy.
And his bizarre sudden lack of avatar...

I totally agree that the control scheme is stupid (mash A to sprint? srs bro?)
