Season 21's actually been quite good! In my opinion, anyway. I agree, it was crap for a long while, but it seems to be recovering! Also, I'm so used to it being there that I would be more than a little confused to not see new episodes appearing on TV from time-to-time.
The show is a little older than me, but not much.

The Simpsons is done. I don't think i've ever cringed so much at such bad writing and bad jokes then i have done with recent Simpsons episodes.

None of the jokes are funny.

The plots are constantly repeating themselves (Homer and Marge have an argument and their marriage is put to the test, Lisa gets addicted or exposed to something bad, Bart makes a new friend, or Moe gets a new character trait...those are the only plots recently)

Every episode has a god-awful musical montage that is neither funny nor original

They've started doing cutaway gags in the style of Family Guy

And the only good episode are either the Treehouse of Horror or a Sideshow Bob episodes, but even those are dipping in quality.

It breaks my heart to admit this (i've been watching the show since i was born and loved it until the past 5/6 years), but the Simpsons sucks...so bad.

Although I haven't gotten around to watching the Simpsons for quite a long time, I'm pleased to hear its still kicking.

For the first eighteen years of my life, I watched the simpsons at 6pm on channel ten every weeknight.
The show is central to who I am, and as I grow older and wiser, and have more experiences in my life, I often find myself looking back on old episodes I saw as a child with a whole new meaning behind them.

Just knowing that somewhere, its still going on, well that just warms my heart.

personally, I felt that the simpsons have got better over the years. I don't get why people would constantly praise the first few seasons when they simply sucked. Granted, the new episode mostly have unfunny jokes but the show still provides a chuckle.

Cool. I like that the show keeps going! Sure, I find its not as funny as other shows, but I at least find it watchable. After all, The Simpsons has done pretty much everything they can do(besides ending the show).

Plus its nice having one show that isn't Family Guy, American Dad, or The Cleveland Show. I watch those shows, and sometimes I wonder why I even watch them(especially Family Guy for the most part).

Hope The Simpsons keeps on going!

I think you are the only person in the world who thinks the early stuff sucked.

I've lost complete interest in these types of "FOX Mature animation" shows. They all seem to meld together into one ugly, tepid, gelatinous mess with different characters and backgrounds to keep things different enough to avoid being confused with one another. I have no bloody clue what allows the continuation of all of these shows when there is only so much to parody.

Nevertheless, I still support more Simpsons and FOX animated company, even though I don't watch them anymore, if we can see all of these miserable crime/hospital dramas and reality TV shows drop off the face of the earth into the deepest reaches of hell.

Im glad to hear it. I think the show has evolved, and logically it has evolved and matured to follow the maturation of its generation. In its early days, it appealed to kids who saw it as something rebellious and brash, now, its evolved into a more wholesome family sitcom. which compared to seeing the first simpsons skits on Tracy ulman when my age was still in single digits, and comparing that to the episodes now at my age of 30 something which is the right age to start having a family, its been a logical progression.

Sure its not cutting edge, and hasnt been for a while, but its evolved into something better and more lasting than trying to remain edgy.

I would think they should shoot for the 25 year mark before they consider calling it quits.

Happy to hear it's continuing. While I can agree that the show is past it's prime, that doesn't mean the show is bad now.
I agree with this statement. Something past it's prime doesn't mean that it's bad, just that it's best was before the current time. No-one can deny that the Himalayas are all incredibly tall mountains, but when you take a cross-section then the highest will always be Everest's peak. It doesn't mean the other mountains aren't high. And likewise for The Simpsons. While the peak has been passed, the shows now are still good, and you never know, they could always peak again (unlikely, but possible...) :p.

I'm very glad of this news, I can't wait to see the new episodes and I wish people would stop bitching about it, fuck, all I hear now is *annoying voice* "oh the simpsons, well past their prime, bleh bleh bleh"

Yes, the Simpsons are past their prime (their prime being the movie), but it's still a good show. It's still entertaining. That's all the justification I need.

Yeah I'll agree with that. The show hasn't really been bad (save for a few terrible episodes) but it's still be fun to watch.

I'll admit that the earlier episodes were much funnier though.

You know what? Good! Great! I want this show to break Gunsmoke's number. I just won't be around for the ride; I got off that train looong ago.

Ugh, why can't you just let them die already Matt? I know they're still making money, but they've been spiritually dead for about 10 years already and they're starting to smell.
Just 10? I lost my love for the show around season 8, a full 13 years ago.

Seriously? This show is way past its golden age.

Fox just has to keep beating a dead horse.

But others in this thread are right, bad Simpsons episodes are way better then some of the garbage broadcasted on TV nowadays.

While they may get over 700 episodes, I doubt they'll get longest running ever at least worldwide.

For me the show started going downhill around season 7 or 8 and I didn't even find the film very funny. However, if they think they can keep making money by flogging the metaphorical horse, who am I to say they shouldn't.

That'd be longest prime time TV show. There are some mid day soap operas that have been running for over 50 years.
