"A Slice of the knife to a throat, and their blood turns to ice TALVISOTA!". Also "With molotov coctail in hand No fear of their tanks Death or glory!"
Funny in a certain light, how we all look the same...
From "Shame" by Matchbox Twenty. For my money, the dude just solves all the world's problems with that verse, promptly passes it by without noticing it, and continues to wallow in the throes of lonliness. Heartbreaking song, but somehow really good for helping me with my own depression.
I don't like really wordy poetry in general, so I like it when someone can set up a mood or concept with just a few words, sort of like how a stand up comedian does.
For me, there's nothing better than:
The day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Try to run
Try to hide...
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
Also love the line in Peace Frog (also by The Doors)
"Ghosts crowd the young childs' fragile eggshell mind"
At some point in your music listening life you have come across a certain song whose music is amazing, and just when you think it can get no better a wondrous barrage of lyrical power hits you smack bang in the ear hole. It's almost so sweet that it brings a tear to your eye, but the same strength in the lyric keeps you strong.
My question to you is, what song/line from a song has had this effect on you?
The song that immediately springs to mind for me is Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas. Kinda self explanatory.
I've got a bike,
you can ride it if you like,
it's got a basket,
a bell that rings,
and things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could,
but I borrowed it.
I was going to post that, absolutely amazing lyrics in that song.
I think second to that for me is Octavarium by Dream Theater
Moreover, the 'Chorus' part (Just after the instrumental interval):
First:
Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath
Remove all obstacles from our path
Second:
Asking questions
Search for clues
The answer's been right in front of you
Third:
Try to break through
Long to connect
fall on deaf ears and failed muted breath
Fourth:
Loyalty, trust, faith in desire
Carries love through each darkest fire
Fifth:
Tortured insanity
A smothering hell
Try to escape but to no avail
Sixth:
The calls of admirers
Who claim they adore
Drain all your lifeblood while begging for more
Seventh:
Innocent victims for merciless crimes
Fall prey to some madmen's impulsive designs
Eighth:
Step after step
We try controlling our fate
When we finally start living it's become too late.
I know, I'm posting this song, or at least songs by this artist, all over the place. But I can't help it, I'm kind of obsessed with DTP lately.
In "Praise The Lowered" by the Devin Townsend Project, Devin's singing about his recent switch to sobriety, from his substance-abuse-filled prior lifestyle. About halfway through the song, the temptation to go back to his old ways starts to take over, with these words being chanted in an almost demonic voice:
"Gimme that wine! Gimme that acid!
I wanna lose everything that's policing us, so then everything must begin!
I wanna do heroin! I wanna do crack cocaine!
I wanna lose everything but release, so why don't you just SMOKE. THAT. FUCKING. WEED!"
At which all hell breaks loose, in one of the most intense musical moments I've ever experienced. Moreso, it's probably the most accurate, vivid representations of addiction and temptation I've come across.
'i now pronounce you ... ya'all' - hold my beer, Trace Adkins
the song is set during a wedding, and that little bit is between the first chorus and second verse, the bit before the first verse was pretty good to X3
Tonight two great ships will pull back to their ports
Depleted of everything that shoots flames and reports
And in the morning the shells will wash up on the shore
And the mighty of earth will have no other recourse
But to shiver and shake and make shit in their shorts
Because we have been told "men if you've been assured
There's a way to live the values your forefathers gave you
Prepare to be told "that shits gay dude", but i guess that what they say is true
That there is no race more human, no one throws it away like they do
